- DIY transmission fluid change for 09-14 Acura tl. Both 3.5l and 3.7l. Anyone with 60k and up I recommend doing a 3x Drain and Fill. Anything less 1 Drain and fill is more then enough. This preventive maintence costs me about 35$ for 4qts and bout 15min. In the video I forgot to mention to check your fluids with your ENGINE OFF! Yes, OFF!
Good job and thanks for the video. For its easier to just do a flush instead of a 3x3.
1. Buy 9 quarts of DW-1 fluid somewhere
2. Drain trans and measure what came out.
3. Put exact amount back in
4. Remove transmission line at the lower radiator and attach a clear hos einto a catch container with quart marks on the side.
5. Set E-Brake. Have someone start car and shift through gears while you watch until 2 quarts come out.
6. Put 2 quarts back in trans.
7. Keep doing step 6 until you got your 9 quarts in.
8. Re attach trans line and check fluid level.
This way your fluid will be all new.
uhm, considering that Honda DOES NOT recommend a flush.........
What about the filter
Don't use your foot on the wrench to remove the drain pan plug. Just get a piece of pipe that fits over the end of your socket wrench; a cheater bar. That gives you more leverage and more torque on the plug. You don't want to strip the threads. Always replace the crush washer on the plug. They are designed to be used only once and they only cost a few cents. It's cheap insurance against leaks. A new transmission will set you back about $4500 so spend the 25¢ for a new washer.
its a bit tough to use a pipe with low clearance. If you torque it to spec, throw some anti sieze and do it every 30k it shouldnt seized up like my tl was.
Van's DIY_channel I know it's a little tight under there. I'm about 40 pounds heavier and 30 years older than you. I use a piece of copper pipe. I cut it to length with a simple tube cutter. Always replace the crush washer and there are no leaks and there is no need or temptation to crank down on the drain plug; over torquing and stripping the threads. My first Acura was a 1987 Legend Coupe. It was 18 years old and ran like new until my daughter totaled it in a crash. She didn't get even a scratch or bump. Acuras are great cars. Enjoy the car and best of luck.

Attempting this soon. Ordered fluid and a funnel. Hopefully I can borrow a torque wrench and decent floor jack. Appreciate the upload, I feel confident I can do this now.
U got this💪 depending on mileage if u want to go an extra mileage. Send off a sample of ur fluid to have it checked
I just had my 2009 model transmission fluid changed. 2 weeks later my oil cooler shit the bed… my transmission fluid went through the entire Rad into the coolant reservoir: I now need a new rad… hopefully the transmission didn’t get too much coolant into it. I was trying to think of why this would happen. Perhaps the oil cooler didn’t like the change in viscosity

How often do you change transmission filter?
If I bought my car under 40k miles I usually swear by 30k intervals. I have an acura TsX now thats over 100k and transmission is solid still with this maintenance interval
Mind if I ask what’s both transmission fill bolt size and what’s the drain transmission bolt size ?

Vegasheat X if you bought your plug for $1.49, I think you should get a good one and flush your transmission fluid again. I wouldn’t trust that one

My daughters 2012 awd tl has transmission code p0700. 216,000 miles on it. Are we looking at expensive repairs now?
Wow congrates on 216k. Could be a number of things but my guess would be a bad solenoid. Wont know for sure until you have it diagnosis.
Check fluid level first of course

I have a acura tl 2012 as well works great just jus 146k miles , my last transmission flush was at 101k and regularly flushed n drained it at the dealer every 30 or 40k but now they saying not to do so but im determine to at least drain it am jus not sure how many times to do so ? Until its red again? Cause currently the fluid is black
@@fit_witoutlimits I've had hondas as long as I can remembered. If you regularly do ur fluid changes, it wont be a problem. Its the ones that run it to 100k, then decides to change it....thats when shit will hit the fan. I had 80k on it before letting it go. Zero issue, just needed something bigger.

I have 2012 Acura TL how often u need to change transmission fluid? I have 112000 mile on it. Last was changed back in 2015
Personally I do it every 30k due to having a lead foot.
I would becareful with those mileage, if it was rarely done before. Try doing 1 drain and fill once a month.
Is it true that the filter is actually inside of the pan and not on top of the case, alike the 3rd gen?
Yes most acura/honda has a filter Inside the pan, BUT the Tl also has an inline filter upfront by the battery. When it clogs it makes a bubbly sound when you first start your car for the day

depending on your mileage. if its your first 30k then no. if you never changed it and its 50-100k do it 3x. i would recommend doing it once every weekend until you hit 3. i find it wasteful to change it all 3x at once. you want it to mix with the old fluid and dilute it so it comes out when you drain it

stichy420 honda/acura doesnr have a replaceable filter. but the tl, at least for the 2012 + model has a inline filter you can replace if your anal or theres a gurgling sound when you first turn on your car.

stichy420 the 2010 and 2012 model have different transmission. The 2012 model inherited the RL's transmission which came with an extra gear and a transmission cooler. im not sure if the inline filter is new or its standard for both models.
you will know when you need to change it. makes a gurgling sound like its clogged when u start ur car up
Hopefully you can help, I'm doing my first ever transmission fluid change on my 2012 TL (Just got it like 3 months ago and im doing a full tune up).
I for the life of me cannot find what the size is for the crush washers that go onto the transmission fluid drain plug. I've heard 18mm, 20mm, and 12mm.
Do you know what size is right and the part#?

And yea I don't trust the dealership I got it from so I'm doing a full tune up. Plus I think my filter is clogged because i keep hearing a weird noise and people have been saying its like a chirping or gurgling noise. So im hoping to fix that, legit sounds like my water cooler in my computer when i start it up and the fluid is trying to circulate lol
