    Good video Bob. Great radio . Just bought one here in the states. I have always been impressed with Icom quality. I still have my first handheld radio I bought from them over 30 years ago. It still works great. The Icom 32 AT.

    Thanks for the great intro to this new radio!
    But Urgh; why the crappy Micro USB-B socket? Those things fail so easily. USB-C is the go for anything designed in the past 5 years!!

    • @michaeljemery
      @michaeljemery 2 года назад +1

      To say that USB-C has been "the go" for the last 5 years is quite the exaggeration, but seeing Micro USB in any recently released product is soul crushing nonetheless. The bigger issue is that radio transceivers have an extremely long life-cycle compared to most categories of electronics, so ICOM fans should get used to Micro USB for another 5 years!

    Great video - thank you very much! A question though - your memory channels have both the repeater call sign and location scrolling across the screen. Is this a setting or am I missing something?

    Great video! Does the radio have APRS or is it D-APRS. I would be purchasing this radio right away it it's full APRS.
    Thanks for your reply in advance.

      Thanks...it has D-PRS which uses D-STAR rather than FM to carry the information.

    FYI, D star does not work without buying hotspot separately. Nobody tells you this and videos show nobody using it to get on d star. I wish I liked this radio as much as he does

    • @KatyW94
      @KatyW94 28 дней назад

      You only need a hotspot if you want to use it at home without a repeater in range.

      Speaking to a colleague, checking the latest software might be worth a try. They can be found here: www.icomjapan.com/support/firmware_driver/

    I received my new ID-52. I found that the model I received is the E model rather than the A model.
    I live in USA. Can I take this radio to a radio shop and have it converted to the A frequency ranges?

    • @Icom_UK
      @Icom_UK  2 года назад

      I would contact your vendor. If you purchased a new ID-52 from an Icom America dealer, you should have received the A version.

      @@Icom_UK I ordered on eBay.
      I’m currently using it to monitor area repeaters as I study for the Technician and General tests, so I’m not transmitting yet anyway.
      I hope a certified Icom shop in my area (there are several here) can convert it for me.

    • @Icom_UK

      @@ndrthrdr1 I would go back to your vendor. Your radio is not approved by the FCC and any changes (if possible) to the radio would probably invalidate its warranty.

    Hi Bob, since you are in Cornwall how can GB3NW be gving you Dstar activity , GB3NW is currently not working but when it is, it is actually a C4FM/analogue repeater NOT a Dstar repeater???? Oh and its around 200 miles from you in Worcester..........73's G4LVV

    • @Icom_UK
      @Icom_UK  3 года назад +1

      I think the repeater you mentioned was randomly shown in the 'setting up the memories' section and wasn’t communicated with. This repeater might have had a change of mode. It's part of the listing we add to each radio before we dispatch to our dealers.
      We do our best to keep the UK directory of analogue and D-STAR repeater up to date. Bob only talked to his local FM repeater. All D-Star activity was via his Hot Spot.

      @@Icom_UK The guys at icom do a great job with the repeater lists so easy to download and install. massive thumbs up from me. I have a 705 i use in the caravan it came preloaded and find the local repeater menu is just a useful feature.

      @@grandpaandlucas7054 Thanks for the kind comment....we make sure we upload as up to date list in all our D-STAR enabled radios. For those customers who do not have this, we have a UK D-STAR download page here: downloads.d-staruk.co.uk/
