Let's be real here, the only time Jack Swagger ever got to be over with the audience is when he formed the Real Americans with Antonio Cesaro & Zeb Colter.
Swagger was good in ECW, he had a ton of charisma, and his in ring skills were pretty good, but for whatever reason the minute he won the WHC he became serious instead of his goofy braggy personality
I think we can all agree that 'Suffering succotash' promo at the time was meant for one specific purpose above all else, and that was simply to make Vince McMahon laugh.
@@jurisfootrag According to Jon Moxley, the moment Reigns was given that promo material, he knew it was really bad. And asked if there was a cool way to say "sufferin' succotash" (imo, there's not)
The only good promo Rousey has every cut was that one segment with Nikki Bella where she would tell Nikki “The only door you ever knocked down was the door to John Cena’s bed room and he eventually threw you out of that same door”.
Roman Reign’s promo work from 2015 was just absolutely torturous. I consider it a huge miracle that he managed to recover from all the years of that booking because if that was anybody else that situation that would’ve been career damaging.
Is it any wonder why Jack Swagger failed to get over in WWE. When he cut that promo, it was almost completely devoid of emotion and sounded completely robotic on the mic as illustrated by that terrible attempt at enthusiasm with that Woo he did in his promo. When his most memorable promo is about a hat, you know you're in trouble.
Let's be real, John Cena's "My life is being ruined by the internet" line in that promo is absolutely hilarious now. You can say whatever you want about it back then, but you have to admit it aged like fine wine.
If I had to guess, the Ellsworth line was probably for Tamina. Charlotte's execution on all of her lines before the Ellsworth ones were equally horrible as if she looked lost as well.
In fairness, Brock usually always laughed during someone else’s promo. I can barely remember a time in the last ten years where he was dead serious the whole time.
@boots8562 I already knew what he meant. The fact Jack Swagger is in the thumbnail with a backwards cap told me all I needed to know. Not to mention it reading *no reaction*.
I still don't understand the push. He was given nice but creatives decided that he would lose to Alberto del Rio at Wrestlemania. He had another shot taking on Rusev, becoming face but still loses. Sometimes, WWE enemy is just themselves.
@@zanethind Not just Jack Swagger. I can name a few people who should got over organic but for some reason WWE doesn't want to. Fandango. Rusev. Antonio Cesaro. Damien Sandow. Zack Ryder.
Poor Jack Swagger. Man had the skillset, Problem was he lacked any character and personality. Had he just found a different character or gimmick he probably would have turned into something decent.
Everyone on this list botched or murdered their promo BUT Roman . Suffering succotash wasn’t his fault. It was due to his boss having a frame of reference from the 1950s.
False. They always have the option to audible. Hell pretending to forget the line would have been a better option. Even if he said the line but omitted the "son" it would have been SO much better.
How does the copyright stuff work? I noticed you played some audio of the Swagger and Reigns promos but nothing else. I'm just curious because I would have loved to have heard some of everyone's on this list. In particular, Gangrel because I forgot what he sounded like.
Jack Swagger once viewed as roman reigns or cody rhodes. But his promo always weak. While we often heard good stories about him backstage and other wrestlers praising him. Sadly he wasnt a good entertainer. Even in other promotions he seems to struggle to get fans behind him to a real main eventer level.
I feel for the Swagger character. He has the tools, but he has the charisma of Joe Bloggs in a library on the fourth of July. Dude couldn’t have been more invisible.
Just IMAGINE that Gunther is WHC and has just retained at the RR, EC, or WM in 2025 and Brock Lesnar returns afterwards to confront him, finally setting up the dream match? The pop would be INSANE...
@tomseville2345 You may be right, because they used it as a soundbyte on the commercial hyping the match and, I think, it was during last year's Owen Cup tourney.
I’m shocked Matt Hardy’s 2005 worked shoot/return promo isn’t on here. Matt’s brought back and given the red carpet treatment by Vince (this was when Matt/Lita/Edge thing happened), and then proceeded to cut a promo that went on and on topping with him saying that he wanted Edge to die in a car accident. The audience lost interest, JR and Lawler were verbally cringing and you saw Matt’s best shot at potentially being a main eventer go up in smoke
Why do I remember the Gangrel promo so much..7years old thinking this guy isn’t even scary..The next day at school everyone was saying “I CAN SMELL YOU”🤣🤣🤣

Vince’s humor later on really was Looney Tunes if it was made on Tubi.

No wonder A(EW) made him not talk. He just straight up suck as in terms of promo. Idk why he decided to stop doing MMA, he was doing good there
They tried to make Swagger look cool and hip...but it was so forced and cringeworthy as the crowd was just dead.
