1. Insert a new cut key in ignition and turn key to the ON position for 10 minutes and 30 seconds.
2. Within 45 seconds turn the key to OFF and then back to the ON position for 10 minutes and 30 seconds.
3. Within 45 seconds turn the key to OFF and then back to the ON position for 10 minutes and 30 seconds.
4. Turn key OFF then back ON. The key is now programmed. Start vehicle to test key.
This procedure will program a new transponder ignition key to following years of Chevrolet Silverado : 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.

I used this procedure on a 2014 with the "High Security" key. It worked, but slightly different. On the third cycle I didn't notice any difference, but when I flipped it off and back to "on" the security light started flashing; I waited about 30 seconds and removed the key. After pondering for a couple minutes I put the key back in and switched to the "on" position - with no security light on. At that point I tried to start and it "kerchunked" like the guy in the video said and then it started on the next try. I would not have tried this without the video, and while things were slightly different in my case, it got me there!
I used the same procedure for my 2021 Silverado and it worked just fine. The only thing that I did different was after the third time around with the new key, I had to use my previous programed key to turn the vehicle on and off and then I inserted the new key to program it. Gold. Thank you very much. Saved $150.

The 2017 Silverado is actually supposed to have 2 keys programmed during this procedure - programming a second key in may solve the theft deterrent light

I have a 2018 silverado single cab and lost all keys will this work for my truck aswell
i must have bigger problems. 14 Silverado 2WT 5.3. Anti theft light never went out at the 10-11-12-13 minute mark. Have a 2000 Silverado with over 375,000 miles and only money in it has been oil changes, brakes, filters, spark plugs. No more Government Motors for me unless its a prebailout squarebody. None of all this electronic BS thats designed to fail. Most new wont make is halfway thru payments. Your video is great, plenty of info. Glad its helping others. Mine must be that 1 in 10 thats the typical GM junk from about 2007 and on.
Can I ask you a question I need to replace my lock and cylinder in my 2014 Chevy Silverado work truck I took the other one out but it's a problem to get the brand new one with key how can you help me to get a brand new lock and key ignition

My security light does not go out at 10 minutes. (or even much longer).
I did go ahead and go through the entire sequence turning off at 10 minutes 3 Xs before I saw your video. It did not start.

My light isn't turning off when I do this? 07 Chevy Silverado 1500. Original key broke off in ignition. Got it out and then got a new chipped key made. Now it's stuck in anti-theft mode. Idk what to do. 😭
My lock thief light when I try to start this it keeps blinking never solid - I don't have the old key it got lost ..
Worked on my 13, but the light is still on after starting and driving. Nervous that its gonna lock the vehicles up if I repeat it or do another procedure...🤷
My question is who will cut a blank for you so that you can program it yourself I can’t find anyone in my area who will they require they program it or they want cut it and automated key machines charge as much as 200 dollars plus!!

Yes, but you would need to program both during the procedure. Depending on the year of your Silverado there may be a shorter procedure you can use to add a key - you can check your year here www.programautokeys.com/classified/silverado-browse-746.aspx

What about when u have two new keys do u have t reset each key that came with the new cylinder?

Do I have to have a newly cut key, I have three keys that were previously programmed to the car with the old ECU and I need to know if I will be able to use the same key to just program to the new ECU that has been replaced
I can't say for sure but In many cases replacing just the vehicle computer does not have an effect on the transponder ignition system or the transponder keys.
@@PYR-Auto the new computer had a different vin number on it than what's equipped with my car and I was wondering if that tripped my security system

It worked on a 2010 Silverado but I did not have to pull the key out after the 3rd cycle. Turned it off and immediately started it. It did not work when I pulled the key out after the 3rd cycle as demonstrated in the video.
I did what you said i turned it off but didn’t take it out and it started right up after sitting for a few months
I had a key cut at the dealership and brought it home to try this procedure but the key won’t even turn. It’s locked like it’s not recognizing it. I thought it might be the steering wheel needing to be turned a little to release it but still nothing. Any advise?
If the key wont turn the ignition it sounds like it wasn't cut properly. You should still be able to turn the ignition before they key programmed.

If you are doing the procedure exactly like the video and are closely watching your times- there may be an issue with the key you are using

I have an 08 Silverado that the key starts and unlocks the door but sets off the alarm every time. Does this mean the key was never programmed?
If the key starts and runs the vehicle then it is programmed. An un-programmed key may start the vehicle but it will shutoff almost immediately.

A 99 Silverado does not use a transponder key, meaning no programming is required.

How do I go about getting the key cut? I have no keys currenlty. What does the locksmith use to "cut" it since I have nothing currently?
You will need a Locksmith or Dealership. Dealerships and some automotive locksmiths can cut the keys by code. Some locksmiths can also hand make keys by doing what is called impression.
The dealership by me wants to cut the key by using the old one. I told them I've had 2 locksmiths try with no success. One locksmith said to get him a key code from the dealership. I feel as if I should just get a new ignition.
The dealer can usually look up the "key code" and cut you a new key based upon your vehicle's VIN. Just have the VIN and two items that show you are the owner of the vehicle (title, insurance card, tag receipt, etc) and your ID. Cost us $92 with tax included and then I used the procedure in the video to pair the key to my truck.
Hey man so I called a mobile locksmith and made me the key for my 2018 Silverado and according to him he programmed it with a Obd programmer. My truck starts But that light is still on any advice?
I'm not sure If the truck starts/runs and you have no other issues I wouldn't worry too much about it

The key can be cut by code by a dealership or some automotive locksmiths
Is this procedure the same for a 2007 classic 3500 after I change the ignition? My ignition is going bad.
Transponder ignitions were not used in the Silverado until 2007 and the 2007 classic was built on the 2006 platform, so I don't believe your key even needs programming.
@@PYR-Auto it does have a transponder in the key, I have tested starting the vehicle without the key near the steering column. And it shuts down almost immediately.
If it is equipped with a transponder ignition then yes this would be the procedure it uses. Although I've never personally used this procedure on a replacement ignition, as long as you replace it with an exact OEM ignition then it should work

I replaced my cylinder key with a used cylinder and a matching used key. The procedure did not worked. Does the key has to be "pristine", meaning that it has not been programmed before?
The chips in the keys lock to a vehicle after programming, I'm assuming that's why you are having issues. You should be able to get a new chip key duplicated from the one you have, then program it.
My lock smith told me in his book it shows for my 2011 Chevy Silverado you need both keys to reprogram a key I can only duplicate at this point with my one key. Have you heard of this?
does the words " SERVICE THIEF DETERRENT SYSTEM " have to be on the dash board, or, not visible on the dash ?

Yes, this doesn't has no effect on the fob
My key is broken off in the ignition. It still works but I can't get the broken part inside out.
if you are unable to get it out you may need to contact an automotive locksmith

You can open and close the door during procedure - I got out of the vehicle every time in-between filming
@@PYR-Auto thank you it worked just as you described it. I had the door open the whole time and about 31 minutes my key worked. I organs a second key for the truck the next day by putting good key in turned it on turned it off put in new key turned on turned off and it worked also

Tired this on my 2013 Silverado 1500 had a key made by the dealer had to show my title and ID to get one cut I went through the motions 3 different times and it never work, I’m pretty sure this is the same video the last time I lost the same set of key some months back and it didn’t work and had to have it programmed by the dealer but even they said they had issued programming that they had to flash my ecu and relearn everything 🤷🏼♂️ probably same scenario this time, don’t understand why
This should work on a 2013 Silverado. If you have had issues programming keys previously due to the ECU that could definitely be an issue this time as well.
This works for me however. I’m on the 3rd day straight having to do this every morning. Any recommendations?

I would recommend just going off of the time rather than the security light - if that does not work there could be an issue with the key you are trying to use or the vehicle itself.
