I love how genuinely dark Another Crab's Treasure is, even if the tone and story are nothing like other souls games and there is plenty of color and humor through the game. The world itself is very much something you could expect to see in your traditional soulslike games, a world destroyed by greed and pollution so thoroughly that its inhabitants minds are being destroyed by them both.

Game suggestion: a 2D pixel art grapple hook indie game called SANABI. It’s only $15 on Steam, and it has some of the most beautiful pixel art and somehow has very expressive and charming animations for the restrictive medium. The gameplay is really addictive with just swinging around with your grappling hook and bashing into robots. It’s a lot like Celest but with a sci-fi setting. The only downside I can see for you if the dialogue being unskippable and kinda long (plus the original game is in Korean so there might be some translation errors), but it makes up for it with its carefully crafted world building, characters, and story (I was actually spoiled one of the big plot points but I still cried with the story. Could just be me tho.). Please check it out!! It’s really underrated!! ✨🙇

Hey mr. Foekoe, there's another semi-Souls-ish game out there by name of Clash: Artifacts of Chaos with a pretty boring name (as you can tell) that belies a genuinely pretty, colorful and imaginative world filled with U G L Y and fascinating inhabitants. It's a prequel to the Zeno Clash series from 2008 and 2011, so the setting is... quite unique. Kind of ramshackle prehistory + Hieronymus Bosch. Has awesome music, atmosphere and good story.
Instead of focus on weapons, it's kind of like Sifu or God Hand. Finding and swapping out different Martial Art styles and some individual attacks, all with their own individual movesets. (including a Crab Stance).
But it's easy to get a hang of, because controls get no more complex than:
- An attack string
- An attack from a Jump, Run and Charge/Hold input
- An attack from a Dodge: Different ones for Forwards, Backwards and Sideways
and if you input a new attack the *moment* your previous attack lands on the opponent, then that new attack comes out quicker. Animation gets canceled as a bonus for timing the input correctly.
Not nearly as complex or difficult as God Hand or Sekiro, but still tough at times and just generally solid.
It also has a largely optional mechanic in the Ritual, a short game of dice that you can challenge *any* sapient opponent to prior to a scuffle.
Depending on what Artifacts you and the challenger have chosen, the winner gets to enforce an extra condition on the upcoming fight. Such as the opponent having to slather themselves in honey which attracts wasps and damages them if they stop moving, or fighting in a small arena fenced-off with sticks and the first to get knocked out has to take a free hit with a big branch.
Most blokes you fight are actually the same persons, they just keep coming back for more to try and catch you and in different team-ups. And if you aren't in fighting range yet, you can sometimes hear one of the mercenaries ramble about why they're hunting in the first place.
There's also a night form to traverse the world with which has its own findable armor sets and is sometimes require to allow your day form to return, and can act as a Second Chance in case your day form gets defeated. But if your night form is defeated, you have to start over from a checkpoint, which is only found at a campfire.
And in that case, it's more the Souls influence than an outright shortcoming.
If you want more of a challenge, there's special Nighttime bosses spread around the land, and half a year or so after the game's release the devs added in a NG+. Haven't been able to test that out yet.
It's a good one. Worst i can say about it is that there's some confusion in navigating it sometimes.

I mean this game was designed to be baby’s first souls-like game. In my opinion the best souls game to start with if you are new to the genre is elden ring like foekoe did. It was my first souls game and after some practice and a bit of dying and grinding it became a lot of fun. It also has player summoning and npc summoning like the mimic tear. These drastically reduce difficulty and even the hardest bosses can be taken down with the help of other players. The game also has lots of checkpoints and a horse to make journeys shorter. One last thing it has many weapons allowing for almost any play style to be used
I mean, apart from the horse, those are all things that every FromSoft Souls game has.
@@Zoomii5 well elden ring is the only fromsoft game with the enemy bell summoning feature like I said with the mimic. It also has stakes of marika and sites of grace plastered near every boss reducing run backs and making death less punishing. Sites of grace are also extremely common compared to bonfires and other checkpoints in other fromsoft games.

Yeah I'm too one of these people who is very intimidated by games like this where they say it's gonna be hard and will destroy you and where as you already played Eldin Ring, I haven't even beaten a rogue like, not even Going Under, Enter the Gungeon, and Blazing Beaks. I have been interested in this game since it was announced and the difficulty options do allow for easy play but I don't know if I could get into something like this since I'm into other types of games. Maybe not now and maybe later down the line till it gets a sale or if I'm really interested in playing it. Also I'm currently waiting for games like Spark the Electric Jester 3 and The Big Catch for Switch

Perhaps something like Clash: Artifacts of Chaos may be worth playing? People have been saying it's a souls-like, but only partially. It's more like a 3D fighter/beat-em-up adventure with some souls influences, and while tough it's not here to bully you, so to speak.
You can find and assign different martial arts styles and special attacks that all have unique animations and utilities.
Slash-stance is rapid, wide-hitting low profile, Boxing is the allrounder, Spear allows the furthest distance away and concentrates damage on one foe, Corwid stance is being a freak with slaps and headbutts, etc.
Awesome music and striking art direction too.
Though if you don't mind blood, perhaps Cookie Cutter and the upcoming Blud may prove interesting as well
