The first time I played mortal kombat 4, I thought that quan chi was a rockstar that went back stage and ended up fighting in the mortal kombat tournament and that he had to fight his way back to the concert before his band start the next gig. I also thought that Fujin was shang Tsung, Shinnok was a clown and that Reiko was Robin.

I'm rereading it for the umpteenth time and the issue between the Sons of Ares, Deimos & Phobos, holding the Talisman (an echo of Marston's old Golden Age issue #5 where the Duke of Reception betrays Mars) brings this ending to mind.

I think the Amulet contained most of his power or something. It's never really explained that well. Safe to assume the Amulet leveled up Quan Chi's powers quite a bit to kill Shinnok with a single projectile.
The Elder Gods stripped off most of his power when he was defeated for the first time by Raiden which severely weakened him. The amulet allows him to access his full power as long as he has it due to the amulet being created when he was still an Elder God and contained most of his power.
I would say that the entire game and it's music describe Far-East or Asian martial art mystery and mysticism! It's an incredible atmosphere with cloudy weather, rain falling and so many thunders striking the land like in the game's intro when Raiden makes his speech!
Quan Chi is my favorite in Mortal Kombat the Green Skull is the one power i wish i had lol but this movie clip on the playstation is WAY better than the N64
