Perfect timing! the hood horror movies have a special place in my heart. The storyline of Bones was really good. I think the comedic aspect reflects our culture. We are naturally funny in all situations, but I do see your points as well. It definitely adds a cheesy campy element. The campiness is also a characteristic of lots of cult classics
Bones was not a pimp he ran the numbers game which was illegal gambling in those days ... When Bones took his knife and stabbed himself it was to stop his pregnant woman from stabing herself ... Next time y'all watch the movie pay close attention to how Pam is holding the knife as she says "I love You" to Bones before he takes the knife and stabs himself ... Peace I love y'all you do a good job
I think this is a duplicate comment... I responded to your other comment though. Short answer, we weren't really saying that Bones was a Pimp. In terms of the pimp reference we were talking about the worship of pimp culture during the time when the movie was made and also during the 70s. You may not have gotten to that part of the discussion.
I was gonna say that Bone was like Bumpy Johnson in that way. A Gangster. Like the black Mafia. Just like The Godfather didn't want Drugs in his community Bones didn't either
*This is the story of Jimmy Bones* *Black as night and hard as stone* *Gold-plated deuce like the King of Siam* *Got a switchblade loose and a diamond on his hand* _They took his life, he never rested in peace, Now his vengeance will be unleashed_ *I love this movie, it’s very campy, but it was so good & so much fun to watch, much like laying down in bed while being wrapped up in a warm blanket & a cup of hot tea on a rainy/snowy day in October*
Jimmy Bones. Bones wasn’t a pimp. He ran numbers. Then his partner wanted to start selling drugs and he wasn’t willing to do so and that’s what led to his death. I think it’s just a coincidence that he ended up looking like a pimp in the movie lol. Snoop’s hair was just luxurious! 😂😂😂 But this is one of my favorite Halloween movies. My sister and I have to have a watch party watching this, Friday the 13th (1-4. The rest we don’t like) and the Halloween series. Thanks for covering this movie. I think the comedy and campy feel of it is why we like it. It’s nostalgic in a way.
We just watched Friday the 13th Parts 1 and 2... 🤭As for the pimp reference, it wasn't because we thought of him as a pimp, but rather the discussion of the worship of pimp culture back then.
JIMMY BONES you guys did an awesome job as always and I don't know if the fun fact guy mentioned but there is a movie called J. D.'s Revenge a blaxploitation horror film released in 1976. It starred Glynn Turman and Lou Gossett. The main character becomes an unwilling host for the restless spirit of J.D. Walker, a hustler killed 30 years earlier when he was wrongfully accused of killing his sister. Which I believe Bones is the remake or updated version
So glad you picked this film, my opinion for years now, "Bones" is in the "Crow" universe, they both have a link between the afterlife and the present, the crow in the Crow movie and the clothes in the Bones movie, enable them to get revenge
The maggot scene was very disgusting much like the scene on Ghost Ship when they ate them 🤮🤢 I have a weak stomach at times in films even knowing it’s fake.
Snoop Dogg did a phenomenal and spectacular job portraying Jimmy Bones as he put tons of emotion and depth into his role as he displayed the elements of the character's coolness, confidence, and swag. This is one of his most greatest, iconic, and memorable roles in cinema. 😍😎💯👍🏻😏
Jimmy Bones What it all comes down to is that Jimmy Bones was a hustler who ran numbers, which was a way to make money without endangering people’s lives and and without bringing harm to the community. He cared about and protected his community. Needless to say when he was betrayed by his best friend and bodyguard, the community fell apart. Although he was dead, the building was his tomb and he didn’t want anyone going inside. So when Patrick came along and tried to make it into a nightclub, Bones must’ve took it as a form of disrespect. And when Maurice took his ring, that infuriated him and he decided to kill not just the ones who had something to do with his death, but also anyone associated with them. Sorry if my comment is too long, but I just wanted to point that out. Anyways, great job on the review.👍🏾
Jimmy Bones wasn’t a pimp…he was a numbers runner…his wardrobe was inspired by Priest of “ Superfly” and Goldie of the “Mack”…there are elements of “ Blacula” , “ J.D. ‘s Revenge”, “ Hellraiser”, and “ Candyman”…Jimmy Bones was a vengeful spirit who had a dog that was linked to him as kind of scout like he could warg or look through the eyes of and control similar to Brandon Stark in “Game of Thrones”…Heroin was big in the 70’s but people were freebasing Cocaine in the late 70’s…to be honest, big movie studios believed that audiences overseas would not go and see dramatic movies with a mostly Black cast…because Eddie Murphy was still the biggest box office draw…Bianca Lawson’s father was also in “ Scream Blackula Scream”…Khalil Kahn is the son of a Last Poets co-founder and he was a popular actor at the time…to be honest, a rap career only lasts a few years…usually rappers decide to branch out to seize every opportunity to make money because labels have been known to drop artists once they think the hits have dried up and the audience has moved on…Jimmy Bones!
23:29 part of the pimp aesthetic was basically looking “too pretty” to do labor. They were kept by their stable of workers. And yeah, also to attract more women to their lifestyle (being chosen).Their flashiness and finesse made them loved by mainstream
32:02 I'm sorry how can y'all forget about ice cube???? Did he not go from no Vaseline and America's most wanted to Boyz n the Hood and are we there yet???
This is one of my FAVES right along with Sugar Hill from 1974 is a good movie that speaks to this Genre as well. I love love love it and a young Richard Lawson starring in it as well. 🙌🏾 Happy Halloween Y’all ! 🎃
This is one of the first dvds 📀 that I watched the Special Features. In the commentary they said that due to color grade they had to use pepto bismal for the blood to show up red in the film. 😂
Actually, Snoop admitted to pimping because he left Death Row broke. He said that he fell in love with one of his " hoes" ( his words) and that was during the time when he filed for divorce . When the interviewer asked him about how his wife felt about him pimping he said that her father was a pimp so she grew up in it and it's not strange to her.
I think Camp or Campiness is the word our good Sis was looking for regarding the movie being “Cheesy”… it’s that or “of the time”… Bones was vengeance but he wasn’t the Villian… IDK if Snoop would’ve played a true villain at the time…. Jimmy Bones!
Thanks for the word choice suggestion! 🙂 Regarding Snoop playing a true villain, Rodney in Baby Boy was most definitely a true villain. That was around the same time as this film. ❤️
A couple guys named themselves Jimmy Bones in my town after this came out. Any of yall ever see that movie Def by Temptation? Its real underground black horror but a gem.
Bones (2001) is one of those movies that you can not possibly forget as it's just so memorable and well-known. It is one of Ernest Dickerson best and finest work in cinema. When it was first released it received negative reviews which totally confused me 😕🤔 but despite that I hold it very close to my heart. The movie was absolutely and positivity constructed perfectly from the very beginning to the end. It is such a true blue modern gem. Ernest Dickerson directed a classic that will be in our hearts forever. I'm so happy that Scream Factory Blu-Ray released a Collector's Edition as it's finally getting the recognition and credibility it deserves as critics and audiences are fully understanding and comprehending the interpretation of the story. 😍😎💯👍🏻
Y'all mentioned Candy man will y'all do a video on that there are a few of those movies ... Also how about Vampire in Brooklyn even though its a horror comedy not real a scary movie ... Or maybe do a video about the Jordan Peel movie Us that was pretty scary
Jimmy Bones. I own a copy of this movie. I will admit that I mainly bought it because Katharine Isabelle (she was Clifton Powell's stepdaughter in this film) was doing a con in my area a while back and wanted to have her sign it. I didn't get around to it, but it could happen. Although I think maybe having her sign a copy of "Ginger Snaps" would be more appropriate, but I digress. Anyway, I can enjoy this movie for different reasons. Is it a good horror movie? No, but I did get a kick out of some scenes. For example, Ricky Harris's character was still talking after getting beheaded. That made me laugh.
I view Bones more so of a hustler and not a gangster. The ideal I gathered about numbers running was they were viewed as hustlers and pillars of the community during that time. I know Snoop Dogg had a pimp persona but was Bones a pimp? I haven’t watched the movie this spooky season yet. But I always close my eyes on the maggot part because that’s so gross. Im glad y’all review this movie. One of my favs
Richard Lawson also starred in Scream Blacula Scream as the guy whom Blacula turned into a vampire and made his keeper. There was a funny scene in that movie whereby Lawson’s girlfriend didn’t believe that he was a real vampire and looked at him and said, “Willie take them teeth out your mouth!” 🤣🤣🤣 Not sure if there are many Black horror films that are genuinely scary without the comedy unless probably Jordan Peele films.🤔
I was thinking that earlier tonight. Except Eddie was supposed to be looking like Dracula. BUT, the case could be made that Dracula looks like a pimp... cape and all. 😂😂😂
He does impel himself with the knife so that his girlfriend didnt have to do it but the way it was angled made it seem like she was about to kill herself instead of having to stab him and I believe he knew that so he ended up impelling himself, either way, he didnt want her to have to do that
@AxiomAmnesia yeah the way she had that knife and she was like I'll always love you (I believe, (I just watched it a few weeks ago smh lol) and right when she was about to do the stab to kill herself, he went ahead impelled himself
JIMMY BONES! This movie is a love letter to the blaxploitation era, it’s a reminiscent of JD’s Revenge i watch it every year during spooky season & here comes the fun facts: This movie was directed by Ernest R. Dickerson. He did cinematography on Krush Groove, Disorderlies, Spike Lee’s early movies & Def By Temptation. He went on to direct Juice, Tales From The Crypt Demon Knight & Bullet Proof with Damon Wayans & Bruce Willis. He said that Snoop Dogg was blushing the entire time while filming because he got to work with his childhood crush Pam Grier. Lupovich looked like Billy from Thinner. I don’t think Jimmy Bones was the villain, i think Lupovich, Jeremiah & Eddie Mack were the villains. I have a question? Are we going to get a breakdown of Def By Temptation?
Jimmy Bones! I am certain my mom still has a copy of the DVD lol. It's probably because I was 6 when this came out but I used to be terrified of Snoop in this movie.
This was one of the three horror films that Snoop Dogg did. In No Particular Order Urban Menace Bones Hood of Horror I like to hear your thoughts on Urban Menace and Hood of Horror.
Hmmmm. Idk. Horrors often use Comedy alot as a Counter Act of the Fear & Gore aspect.. Its also a human coping mechanism to make humor out of things that may really scare you.. Also i think the actors in this movie are naturally funny 😂😂.. And i think thats also intentional.. i think a part of why they were casted is because they are naturally funny. They may have been using humor to play it safe a Bit, due to Horror seeming to Be highly 'gatekept' in a way during that time . And before that time . I also seen some stuff that said alot of things that fleshed out(no pun intended) 😂, and Made the movie more serious, was Taken out of the final edits, due to production execs.. Such as More scenes detailing Bones & His Ladys Love Story, for instance ...So that could be a factor as well .
Jimmy Bones Well most would say tupac was known as a rapper to the world first when he made his transition from a roadie / backup dancer to rapper with his verse on same song with digital underground. Then his album drops and he films the movie juice around the same time period. Tupac would flip back and forth between music and movies. As for rappers from the newer generation who have been transitioning from rap to acting i say joey bada$$. His character on power raising kane was good. Oh how can i not forget rapper Camron’s performance in paid in full as alpo ….
To Cheri's point about the aesthetics. You can like the aesthetic without endorsing the lifestyle of those who wear the aesthetics because in a way that was the point. The aesthetics were made to be liked, to seduce. "A pimp is really a whore that reverses the game on whorse." - PIMP: The Story of My Life by Iceberg Slim
Honestly I never thought Jimmy was a pimp. In my mind it was just Snoop styling his character 😂😂😂. I do believe Jimmy may have been a club owner or a pool hall owner because of the house. The fact that he knew an actual pimp (Ricky character), and a crooked cop makes me feel like he was just cool with the wrong people. Or maybe his best friend (Colin Powell) knew them first.
I recently watched this film, I remember being so much better lol. The real horror elements didn’t happen until the last 15 minutes-the kills should’ve happened throughout the movie. But I did enjoy the cast!
Yassss this movie is the topic. We can work with this! Talk about the possible sex with his daughter in the bed scene. Bianca was in the bed just like Erykah Badu drenched in semen and blood. Skeptics believe it was a ritual to live through her in the flesh. She was possessed at the end and attacked that boyfriend her father didn't like.
I absolutely and positivity highly recommend this movie for Halloween in order to get thrills, chills, goosebumps, frights, shivers, and excitement in order to get in the Halloween spirit. 😍😎💯👍🏻😏😰😱🎃👻😈
Okay so on the topic of Snoop Dogg being a pimp he actually was for a short period of time he went on a 2-year tour with Playboy had a whole tour bus of adult workers and was charging NFL and NBA players to party with them and enjoy the females it was explained in an article by rolling Stone and that was why in 2003 or so when him and Bishop Don Juan in 50 cent did the video p i m p I guess you can say that was like his knighting into the pimp Hood y'all sent me down a rabbit hole cuz I heard on the video y'all talking about the two adult films that Snoop hosted which I do briefly remember growing up back in the late 90s but never got a chance to watch them cuz we were poor and didn't get internet until the early 2000s when computers were more affordable so after this review I went back and watched them but yeah it was very short-lived but Snoop was definitely a real pimp which was cosigned by Bishop Don Juan
Aw man I love this movie n snoop dogg i wish they could make a sequel to it but i think they run out of money or something n I think I requested this movie anyway n yes snoop dogg hair was lay slick like Michael Jackson n Prince too lol 🙏🏽😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤😎😎😎😎 n plus I hope u do the other snoop dogg scary movie hood of horror too I feel like it was a slick sequel to bones but in a different way especially when his daughter becomes him at the end but some people wasn’t crazy about this movie but I don’t care I still love it anyway 😎😎😎😎
@@AxiomAmnesia but that was the ending stab he could’ve survived tho I know people in real life who were stabbed way more than that and lived but we all know they wouldnt let him live even if he could
His friends were trash, and the bodyguard was super trash...the body guard should have took death over everything. Clifton Powell's character was a coward. The only one I'll kind of excuse was Pam Grier, but technically Bones threw himself onto the blade when she was holding the knife.
When Jimmy was ressurected you notice even though Jimmy was pissed off. He told Shotgun that everything was free and clear. Jimmy slashed his throat, sang to him and closed his eyes. Jimmy might've killed him but unlike the others he forgave him once he died. The others weren't only killed but their souls tortured after death.
I'm sorry but to me this movie was a major disappointment, I liked the first half of the film which was a tragic slow burn ghost story but instead of it being set in a gothic Victorian mansion in the countryside it was a dilapidated brownstone in the middle of a once prosperous neighborhood now consumed by urban decay which I thought was a refreshing take on the old trope, but then in the second half it did a very total 180 and turned into a bad "Nightmare on Elm Street" sequel with a hammy villain cracking one liners that would make "Freddy Krueger" roll his eyes🙄😆🤣
This movie was cut by the studios he had a wayyy better background the writer was on a horror documentary talking about how they didn't think black audiences wouldn't understand blah blah
Snoop was blowing up that year. Bones, Baby Boy, The Wash , Training Day .
Yeah, he was taking advantage of opportunities for sure!

It’s an underrated movie if your into the supernatural genre. And who wouldn’t want to date Pam Grier
It is underrated! 😊

I also seen some stuff that said alot of things that fleshed out(no pun intended) 😂, and Made the movie more serious, was Taken out of the final edits, due to production execs.. Such as More scenes detailing Bones & His Ladys Love Story, for instance ...So that could be a factor as well .
Jimmy Bones!
I hadn't even thought about Camron... Might as well mention Nas, Beanie Segal, and a bunch of other rappers too!
Jimmy Bones
Never seen this
"Jimmy Bones"🦴🦴💀👻🤣
JIMMY BONES LIVES
It might’ve been called “doggy style” his adult film.
I think that was the name! 😂
@@AxiomAmnesia 😂😂facts trust me, I would know… I’m a connoisseur lol
I recently watched this film, I remember being so much better lol. The real horror elements didn’t happen until the last 15 minutes-the kills should’ve happened throughout the movie. But I did enjoy the cast!
I think we always remember movies better than they were! 😂
Jimmy bones! 👹
Jimmy Bones ❤
I absolutely and positivity highly recommend this movie for Halloween in order to get thrills, chills, goosebumps, frights, shivers, and excitement in order to get in the Halloween spirit. 😍😎💯👍🏻😏😰😱🎃👻😈
Jimmy bones 💪🏾
Jimmy bones was a numbers runner
I think the movie was good especially with all the maggots scenes 😂the maggots make the movie standout it’s still a good rewatch now
I think his girl was about to turn the knife on herself, and he did it to stop her from doing it. . .
Jimmy Bones
Since we was grasshoppers...
Yep! Like that's crazay how he turned on him though...
JIMMY BONES
Actually he killed him self so his gf wouldn’t take her own life which she tried to do instead of stab him
I don't think that really qualifies as killing himself. He was gonna die from his injuries.
Indeed you right
@@AxiomAmnesia but that was the ending stab he could’ve survived tho I know people in real life who were stabbed way more than that and lived but we all know they wouldnt let him live even if he could
Okay call me a chicken. But you've said 🍬 👨🏿 waaay too many times for my liking. See you in the next video 😂 🐔
😂😂😂
What city was this movie in? I'm thinking Detroit
No…. You’re confused! They didn’t wear skinny jeans and purses
Uhh who said that though? You're confused. 🙄
☝🏿👀🏁
Snoop wife did allow him to be a pimp for a spell.
I keep hearing this!
Jimmy bones
This movie is a copy of JD’s revenge
I'm sorry but to me this movie was a major disappointment, I liked the first half of the film which was a tragic slow burn ghost story but instead of it being set in a gothic Victorian mansion in the countryside it was a dilapidated brownstone in the middle of a once prosperous neighborhood now consumed by urban decay which I thought was a refreshing take on the old trope, but then in the second half it did a very total 180 and turned into a bad "Nightmare on Elm Street" sequel with a hammy villain cracking one liners that would make "Freddy Krueger" roll his eyes🙄😆🤣
😂
This movie was cut by the studios he had a wayyy better background the writer was on a horror documentary talking about how they didn't think black audiences wouldn't understand blah blah
Lets just say the Special effects was decent for the times but it didnt age well
I think they had better effects back then. 🤭
@@AxiomAmnesia Facts lol I can agree especially since they used alot of practical effects
It was crack
This movie was the stupidest scary movie ever 💯 waist of a review
Sorry you saw it that way... 🤷🏾♀️
