They were not showing as a group in order to prevent legislation being passed, because they knew that they would lose if the legislation went up for a vote it was very deliberate and they richly deserved not to be allowed to run again.

Moreover, it states "neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void" - so it seems that trump and his House and Senate cohorts should kiss their pensions goodbye.

No more fake debates with speakers talking to an empty chamber, etc. They should be doing the people's business rather than going on lobbyist-funded trips and other events, doing constant fund-raising, etc. Couple that with campaign financing reform, requiring disclosure of contributors, reintroducing limits on corporate funding (aka, special-interest bribery - and the Supreme Court is dead-wrong, corporations are neither people or citizens), and maybe D.C. can function as it was meant to do.

I started by working with the Columbia River Keeper on the anti-flouride campaign in Hood River, 2005. We won, barely. Then again, in Portland years later. We banned Nestlé from building a bottled water plant in Cascade Locks. We made them include GMO information on our food labels, we forced them to reroute the oil train away from the Gorge. And a lot more. Coal terminals. LNG terminals. Anyone interested in activism should consider the Columbia River Keeper as an asset.

The guy who kept leading the walkouts here in Oregon was my 7th and 8th grade Social Studies teacher back in the 80’s. He did a whole course each year on law and constitutional law and that was my favorite thing in school. Somehow, he forgot everything he taught us in school and became a cranky old Republican representative who refused to go to work and do his damned job! I’m super proud to have voted to fire my former teacher for doing the complete opposite of what he taught us as kids. He needed to retire to his little farm and chill out.
I did feel bad for a while though. His second wife died several years ago, and I took a minute to look at her Facebook page after I sent him my sympathy. Her page was full of racist, rage baiting posts. I’m sure she had some influence over this guy I used to know, by filling his world with hate every day.
Now, instead of retiring his grumpy self to his farm, the citizens of my town have voted him on to the city counsel and now he’s obstructing any decent plans we have. Our homeless population has quadrupled and he’s refused federal funds to create warming stations, shelters, and treatment centers for the drug addicted. His reasoning is that the mayor (who has no actual power) is a democrat so he can blame her. He truly exists to point out how broken everything is, by keeping it broken.
The head of our town Republican Party is a woman from Orange County California who is very much into Q theory and regularly hosts people who have warning pages on the SPLC website. She had a public watch party for a Mike Pillow (Lindell) production a couple months ago. A complete Q nutty nutter butter.

They've been told there's an invasion and believe somehow that illegals benefit Democrats and that we've planned this. This kind of talk and behavior is so dangerous and will lead to many more innocent people dying. The entire Republican party, most especially MAGA , ... and their right wing media, are the ones responsible for this and should be held accountable. @@jham7411 That walk out was not to refrain from voting on issues. I live in Oregon, these Reps left the state to make sure they could not be called back to vote on issues. They did it time and time again. It was not to protest an action by the leader.

@@jham7411 The Tennessee walk out was a different matter. The Tennessee Three walked off the floor in protest of unfair treatment of one of their members, not to kill a quorum and deny even the possibility of a vote on legislation they didn't like. Also, it was a very short walkout. Public backlash led the Republican controlled legislature to recant its previous position, and the three were back at work. The two situations were not comparable.
