Being able to dash into a bullet to negate any damage is outright a parry, and I never thought I would ever need to see a tank game with parries but now I know I really do
Timing based parries are always good, and I want to see them in every game possible

Nintendo noticing something that looks a lot like something they own usually turns out poorly, but yeah maybe.
@@Cheezmonka they cannot do anything since the game doesn't re-use assets or music. Nintendo doesn't own the concept.

I found your channel via that original Wii tanks video in 2019, I love simple fun tank games even though I didn't spend more than 30 minutes on that Wii game due to motion controls... But I can't deny the aesthetic and execution of that game is top notch and probably inspired quite a few games later on, although the original inspiration (and my interest for this genre) was definitely from playing the original Tank Battalion & Battle City on Arcade & Famicom respectively 1980/1985 (I'm not that old 😂 wasn't born yet but did find and play those games a lot as a kid)

A Camouflage / Invisible Tank would be interesting where the challenge is more audio-based. If you have headphones or something and hear the bullet being shot, that's where you need to shoot. For non-headphone users, each time a bullet is fired, the Tank's position is revealed for a split second. It would be an interesting idea and would fit well with the other Tanks. IDK how you'll be able to do this or if you can make it work, but it would be nice to see an idea like this get in.

I don’t think this would work. To explain why, we have to talk about geometry and how human hearing works. Since this game basically operates on a 2D plane, we’ll be working in 2D. Let’s begin.
Okay, let’s start with a simple statement: The closer the source of a sound to your ear, the louder the sound is heard. Thus, you can determine at what distance any given sound occurred, as long as you know how loudly the source created the sound to begin with.
But there are infinitely many points at a given distance from your ear, and those points form a circle. The sound could have come from anywhere on that circle. Luckily, though, you have a second ear, and that ear can also pick up the sound, thus forming another circle. And since the source has to lie on both circles at once, you just have to find where the circles intersect.
There’s one problem, though: unless the source is colinear with your ears, there will be TWO intersection points, and the source could exist at either one. But there are other cues to determine where a sound came from, and it is with all of this information combined that humans in real life can determine where a sound came from. This process is known as sound localization, which you can look up to find explanations that are probably much better than what I can provide.
Anyway, when we’re talking about headphones, we legitimately only have two points to work with: left and right. As a result, it’s not really possible to differentiate between top and bottom. As an example, if a noise occurs in the bottom left, then it could very well have occurred in the top left, where it would sound exactly the same.
As another issue, the human ear is fine-tuned for sound localization in the real world. But that doesn’t work because this game doesn’t take place in the real world; it takes place on your computer monitor. It’s kind of like the 3D slider on the 3DS, how you have to have it just right for it to look good. (On that note, vision is pretty different from hearing in that your eyes actually know where they’re pointing when you see something, whereas your ears don’t point at anything.)

Bought the game and played through most of the first campaign (worlds 1, 2, and about half of 3 before i had to leave to go do something) _immediately_ after watching this video and I absolutely adore it and can't wait to see how it grows in the future.

This game sounds really good but I do wish the difficulty wasn't as hard as you say it is, that commander tank and the fact enemy tanks can't be damaged by hazards other than water is kinda ridiculous
I am still trying to dial in the balance quite a bit, since this video I actually have made things a bit easier for the player by giving them more health and a slight buff to shot speed. I am seriously considering allowing hazards to effect enemies. Something I just need to play test more!

I feel like the only time people complain about lives is when they don't amount to anything when the game is too easy and you get hundreds of them by the end. If the game is designed around being an arcade style game, when a game over actually means something, then sure, by all means, keep them in. I'm gonna stop here, but I can talk about games that have good and bad examples of the use of lives.

Everyone kept mentioning that game to me while I was developing Toy Tanks! I never played it myself but apparently it was similar! I’ll have to dig it up sometime and give it a play haha
@@rodneyluck5952 from my experience it's very multiplayer focused, and while I don't think it's as good as other tank games, for a Roblox game it's honestly not bad

Everyone do be bagging on lives. I bet half of them are mainly bandwagoning at this point. I like playing games with lives, just my style. But I agree, it isn’t for everyone and it can be frustrating. There should be an option to play without lives in a game, and have the other style be the option to turn off and on (lives or no lives). I see platformers doing this a lot. Like Crash 4 and sonic origins (even if done poorly).

OMG. He did the thing.
The physics part is automaatically handled by unity, so you can say it's well programmed in terms of logic, but it isn't very well optimised. You definitely lose fps due to it.
For the record- the game is a very well presented game. However, it's not my cup of tea, but regardless, I can see why other people would like it.
While I do take advantage of some of unity built in physics, a lot of the physics is actually custom made, I tried to hit a good balance between chaos and control. :-)
