I'm not a fan of the "what's the worst that could happen" because I am VERY good and thinking of the worst thing that could happen. One of my flaws is that I see faults first. But what I took from this that really helped me was that its okay to fail, and in front of people! Its okay not to succeed and accept help and be comfortable in that. Thank you Carrie Fletcher!!
Awww, Carrie, this was exactly what I needed :D You're an amazing person and I can't express how happy you make me, just by these little videos every now and then. I kind of look to you as a big sister or something, and you know why. Thanks for being an amazing inspiration, and I'll definitely keep watching!!
Wow. The timing of me watching this video is too beautifully coincidental for you not to know about it Carrie. I just finished writing my first full length novel, but I'm terrified to present it to an editor for fear they won't like it etc. but I've poured years of thought and time in to this so the worst thing I can do is not be willing to "dark to suck". Thanks for the inspiration! CourageousCurlyCarrie wins again.
thank u carrie 4 ur brilliant advice. I have written so many stories but I have never had the guts to get them published so thatn u and thank u tom for coming up with the saying "Dare to Suck". I will definitely follow that advice. THANK U!!!!!!
I am so unbelievable glad i found your videos. I found you through Alex's videos (which my friend showed me) and since Saturday June 16th I have watched every single one of your videos. You are such an inspiration and a great role model. I had been debating if i should start uploading videos on the other channel i made for videos and with this video you have inspired me to do so. Please never stop being the amazing person you seem to be. Forever a Hopeful.
Oh my goodness, everytime I watch your videos I think 'Oh my word, how can I feel so similar to her?' because you take the thoughts right out of my mind! Almost EVERYTHING you've said about yourself, I'd say the same for myself. And I see people comment 'I feel the same!' and realise there are people who can relate to the weirdest things about me! I love you so much Carrie (from your videos), your videos are so amazing! :D xxx
you have just convinced me to actually create videos for those millions of scripts i have written in my creative book.... and the song i wrote ages ago too... thankyou carrie!!! xxx
Hi Carrie, I was writing up an admissions short essay for uni, and the question was select a Leader in world, and why you admire them. This questions immediately made me think of this video. You're ideas on how we should live our life have truly inspired me, and I'm sure many, many people, and I feel like my outlook on life would not be the same without you. I wanted to say Thank you so much for being an inspiration to me and I hope that you never "vanish off my screen" :) Love you forever
This is what I needed. Carrie, you're amazing and this video has just made me realise that maybe I don't suck at everything . It's made me realise that to get somewhere or to get what I want I have to know that not everything I do will be perfect, but that some things that I do might actually be quite decent. Thank you :)
Ohhhh man, i've been there many times. I've had artists patronize me, publishing companies reject my ideas, producers smile and say no. BUT, i've also had artists LOVE my stuff, a publishing company tell me they wanted more of my work AND a producer who walked me step by step on moving my idea further along to get produced. Mind you, I STILL don't have a book published, a TV Show, OR my artwork anywhere, but it wasn't from not trying or people not helping! DARE to SUCK, you never know.
'have fun sucking', I only realised a few seconds later when you say 'oh no!'. hahah, but I think you should carry on with all your video ideas and novels, no doubt they're awesome and you're just being hard on yourself :')
Can I just say thank you and I love you for being so amazing and inspiring! I have only known about your videos for a little while but you've already made a huge impact on my life and inspired me to push myself and make myself better :D xxx PS come to NY ;)
Don't you ever doubt for one minute that you aren't brave Carrie. You put videos of yourself up on the internet to be judged, you sing in front of people, and you over all inspire so many people. I think all of us Hopefuls out there should making being brave or "dare to suck" our new goal/motto. From, A Very Faithful Hopeful
I totally and completely do this very same thing and have so many ideas that I just keep to myself. But I've been working on my confidence lately and actually owning who I am and this really gave me an extra boost!!
You are so lovely Carrie :) Thank you so for this video. I have been thinking these things forever....And, you will probably be a GREAT children's author! There is such a beautiful light that shines in your thoughts, and I think it makes people feel warm, safer, and happier to hear your caring opinions. All The Best To You Always
Dear Carrie, you have a perfect timing. Really. And, by the way, as surely many people tell you, you are a wonderful person and one of the very, very rare good female youtubers. Actually, you are one of the best youtubers at all. I really enjoy your videos and sometimes it's like you're telling me either exactly what I already thought but didn't realize or exactly what I needed to hear, like now. Thank you so much for being awsome! xxx
Brilliant. Carrie, this is by far the BEST advise I've ever heard. And I'm going to do it. Thank you, this is JUST the push that I needed. I've got to much bottled up inside this head of mine. You are brilliant.
No way, I was literally thinking about something I've been trying to start for years, and never had the guts to, just seconds before clicking your video!! This means something! I dare to suck at making new youtube videos!:D Thanks Carrie! xx
I love this! My dad is teaching me guitar, and he passed on a saying that his teacher told him. "If you're gonna make a mistake, make it a LOUD one." Basically saying don't hesitate or THAT will be your mistake. It's better to be confident and own it. :)
I have said this already and I will say it again, Carrie, you are one of the amazing people that I look up to, you're so inspiring and just generally lovely to everyone! :'3
I'm really inspired to live by this now... For too long I've just sat in the corner, watching as other people achieve incredible things with their lives, and I'm determined now to become one of them :) As you said, there's no harm in trying
Thanks Carrie! I really needed to hear this right now! :) I have lots of trouble putting forth my ideas but you've already helped me think twice about not at least suggesting my ideas to others!
Can I just say how graceful you are about your brother? I have been watching your videos for about a month now and its taken me this long to figure out that this brother Tom you keep mentioning is the lead singer of McFly. Even though you could completely be "Oh yeah, my brother and his band McFly, you know the famous one" you act like its a small band that almost no one knows. I really love that you are so graceful about it (:
Thank you carrie soooo much! That is exactly what I needed to hear at this moment in time because I was having a real problem with this at college thank you so much -3
Carrie, thank you and your brother and his band mates- SO MUCH! I literally, about 10 minutes ago, played a song I wrote for my family for the first time. I have been terrified to do it for so long and today I just went, 'Come on Darcey, you can do this, dare to suck, dare to suck, dare to suck!!' And that helped me so much and I feel amazing now so THANK YOU !! ^_^ ^_^ ^_^
This video has made me finally start writing a story I have been thinking about for so long but have been too scared to write incase it turned out rubbish. Even if it sucks, at least I can say I tried and start on something new. Thanks, Carrie x
Although this video is over 3 years old now, I just took your advice & asked members of my fav band/anyone seeing my tweet what programs may be good for writing music to go along with song lyrics I've already written. I'd like to finally make them full on songs. Maybe your brother and his band mates may have suggestions too? Thanks for the advice Carrie! All the best.
I love this slogan/saying from the guys, I think it's brilliant and it's helped me a lot! Honestly it's worth taking the chance sometimes because once in a while you succeed and then it feels brilliant!
This is probably exactly what I needed to hear right now! Literally just started coming up with a new webseries idea! So thanks Carrie! I shall definitely dare to suck with this one :)
I love this Carrie! And it's so true. So often, I'll think of an idea for something, usually a song or a video or something, and think "Hey, that's WAY too far fetched" or "You idiot, everybody is going to hate this," but you're right, what's the worst that could happen? And even if one person doesn't like it, someone else always will :)
I definitely need to be reminded of this! Thank you! I always have ideas that I think are brilliant and I am afraid that in their realization they will lose the absolute splendor that they enjoyed in my mind, not because the idea is bad, but because I am not capable of bringing to life brilliant ideas in a way that is worthy of their brilliance. Still, I need to try! Projects can always be revised, books rewritten, and videos improved upon in the future (hey if George Lucas can do it...).
I wish you would make advice videos everyday. They're actually helpful, unlike so much of the rubbish I hear, and being a 15 year old girl is proving to be rather difficult at the present time! I love you lots.
:D learnt about this in 2009 from McFly when I spent the day with them after winning a competition! Your ideas will always be awesome Carrie, don't worry! xxxxx
wow wish I'd seen this a long time ago!! been writing short movies for a while now but I just do not dare to show any because I don't want people to turn around to me and say that they're rubbish, especially the ones that I care a lot about. But recently I wrote one that I'm very proud of so I started telling people. Now I have people with camera equipment wanting to work with me to make my dream a reality. Just goes to show that you have to be brave to make ideas/dreams a reality.
Oh also you are absolutely right about "daring to suck" by allowing other people to build upon ideas...perfectionism is usually more likely to succeed if made into a group effort.
I like to write, but I'm scared to just go out and show my work to people, so I use online writing websites. It works for me, because its easy to hide behind a pen name and not worry about your work being attached to an actual name.
I love your hair :) most people pick on me because I have curly hair but I can honestly say yours is beautiful as is your personality and singing! I can't stop listening to your covers which are on the whole a lot better than the originals :).
I've been making youtube videos on my other channel ImFullOfRandom but I haven't been posting videos in a while cause some of my friends told me my videos aren't good. I know there were some boring ones but it's now put me off of uploading stuff altogether. Thank you Carrie for motivating me to start making videos and uploading them no matter how much they suck :P
You're adorable. I particularly related to this vid, as I worked up the courage to basically present my idea for a novel (that I've had for a long time) to my A Level English class...and I got a really positive reaction! Walked around like a smug git the rest of the day, it was quite nice.
I love how all of my youtubers think/speak about the same things. You, ZeFrank had a video about this, and if I remember correctly one of the Green brothers and Charlie also spoke about the topic.
I completely agree and can sympathize. My talent is actually being creative. I'm good at making something from nothing (whether it be in art, food, sewing, etc) but I'm always afraid of showing people. Like I have beginnings of 8 novels (seven of them are for a children's book series) and two starts for children's picture books. I went to art school for 10 years so I'm not new to criticism. I just have always had a fear if failing or sucking.
Really good advice. I should try this, but sometimes I am even too scared to have an idea and I'm just like ''ah well why should I even think about something when it is going to be shit and no one is going to like it'' and somehow this is just destroying my creativity and I should really stop that, but it's so hard when there is always that voice telling you that it's shit. But now I'll try to be brave, have ideas and put them out there in the world like you said and thanks ^^
This is probably going to add a lot more cheese to your channel, but I seriously find you an inspiration and think you're just such a great person. And you're really pretty.x
This is basically my life. I have a good 60,000 words of a novel on my laptop that I'm terrified to show to someone but I would love to try to get published, multiple sketch ideas for youtube but I'm scared to upload and a billion other things that I'm too scared to act on. I love the whole 'dare to suck' thing and I think it's an amazing idea. I hope you're brave enough to get all those things done! I'm going to try to do the same thing. "Have fun sucking." hahaha ;)
I like to write stories and sometimes quite long stories. A while back my friend asked if I had any ideas recently and I shared a few of them. Two heads are really better than one, and I never would have gone through with one of my ideas if I didn't have that encouragement.
So very true, throughout recorded history there are zeitgeists which occur where people in various countries have similar ideas. Whether these ideas originate from a singular source or come through specific observation does not seem to matter so much as these ideas spark an impetus that can have world wide implications. Wallace and Darwin are a good example of this, of course this can lead back to who gets credit for what... which should matter less, and getting the idea out should matter more.
Recently, I had a very vague idea for a story, really, just the conflict. But that's the thing. The problem in this world is that all conflicts, major or minor, are beginning to be resolved, and once every conflict ever is resolved in this universe, it will end, so there's a group of people going around trying to create more conflicts
Hi! Carrie if you see this please answer: which is the video where ou show your wristband that you flip over when you have done something good? I really want one- thanks :) i love your videos by the way- you are an amazing role model x
I had an idea for a book about the clouds actually being creatures that only certain people can see I thought it was rubbish but I was encouraged by this video to share it with someone . Thanks Carrie
Now that I see you're worthy of being asked the question: "Dean's hair - thoughts?" Personally, I think it's epic and that it's really cool that he's stuck with it ;D haha :D PS. I'm new to you, Carrie, but with every video I'm watching I'm just falling more and more in love with you haha (Let the tune from 'Granger Danger' flow into your mind) :D You're so lovely and quirky and witty and just overall amazing! ^.^ lol :D DFTBA! xx
Yaaay. Made me smile through my pain. I love you Carrie and I hope my videos get seen so I can help people and brighten their day like you do for me. :) xxx
When Maureen Johnson was covering John Green's videos 2 years ago, she made a very similar vlog, Both your's and her's are very good, and 100% true : )
i believe Maureen Johnson also gave this advice for new writers :) way back in the Brotherhood 2.0 year of Vlogbrothers, while John was on paternity leave
Omg your face when you realised how dirty that sounded xD I couldn't stop laughing!
Awww, Carrie, this was exactly what I needed :D You're an amazing person and I can't express how happy you make me, just by these little videos every now and then. I kind of look to you as a big sister or something, and you know why. Thanks for being an amazing inspiration, and I'll definitely keep watching!!
So I just spent my whole night watching all of Carrie's videos, this is the first time i've ever watched any of her videos, and I completely love her.
"Hey! I have an idea for a kid's book about an elephant called Elephan who wears very brightly coloured pants!"
"That idea is pants."
XDD Love it!! xx
Wow. The timing of me watching this video is too beautifully coincidental for you not to know about it Carrie. Taylor Fox soon you'll be able to read 3 and a bit books! 😜
Its nice that you have a good best friend like Alex. The friendship you have is special.
I love you guys you never fail to make me smile c:

No way, I was literally thinking about something I've been trying to start for years, and never had the guts to, just seconds before clicking your video!! This means something! I dare to suck at making new youtube videos!:D Thanks Carrie! xx
DEAR CARRIE you're at the top of my favorite vloggers list! and you rock the red lipstick!
I love this!
My dad is teaching me guitar, and he passed on a saying that his teacher told him. "If you're gonna make a mistake, make it a LOUD one."
Basically saying don't hesitate or THAT will be your mistake. It's better to be confident and own it. :)
Carrie Hope Fletcher. You are a legend.
I was really proud of myself for knowing where that saying came from before you told me. It's a really different and great way of viewing things!
Thanks Carrie! I really needed to hear this right now! :) I have lots of trouble putting forth my ideas but you've already helped me think twice about not at least suggesting my ideas to others!

Thank you carrie soooo much! That is exactly what I needed to hear at this moment in time because I was having a real problem with this at college thank you so much -3
I love your hair! It makes me happy! You are such a beautiful soul!
Carrie, thank you and your brother and his band mates- SO MUCH!
I literally, about 10 minutes ago, played a song I wrote for my family for the first time. I have been terrified to do it for so long and today I just went,
'Come on Darcey, you can do this, dare to suck, dare to suck, dare to suck!!'

You're so great. Well done on having done/thought of all those things anyway, even if you haven't shown them to anyone yet!!
I love this slogan/saying from the guys, I think it's brilliant and it's helped me a lot! Honestly it's worth taking the chance sometimes because once in a while you succeed and then it feels brilliant!
Carrie you are actually magnificent. New Years resolution right there! xx
This is probably exactly what I needed to hear right now! Literally just started coming up with a new webseries idea! So thanks Carrie! I shall definitely dare to suck with this one :)
I love this Carrie! And it's so true. Saw the title... Realised exactly how much I need to get my mind out of the gutter. Also loving the lipstick!
Reading the title with a dirty mind...
Ohlawdy.
😏
I love the ending... Gah, you and Alex are so fun to watch!
Yay for new videos!
Thanks for the smiles!
I wish you would make advice videos everyday. They're actually helpful, unlike so much of the rubbish I hear, and being a 15 year old girl is proving to be rather difficult at the present time! I love you lots.
The idea was amazing Carrie! It came out brilliantly!
In the USA we say "Just do it!"
"You have permission to fail. You will still be loved."
"Dare to Suck" was also the theme of a vlogbrothers video when John was on paternity leave (with some lemons as the picture). Great message!
It's on the vlogbrothers channel. You can search vlogbrothers Dare to Suck, and it'll be the first result.
Her channel is maureenbooks, though.
i find myself watching this over and over again while deciding if i should do this one thing or another.
:D learnt about this in 2009 from McFly when I spent the day with them after winning a competition! Your ideas will always be awesome Carrie, don't worry! xxxxx
Awesome idea for a video :) Loved the clip of you and Alex at the end, I hope there are more of them to come :)
Can I just say, I would buy and love that kids book. It sounds brilliant.
wow wish I'd seen this a long time ago!! been writing short movies for a while now but I just do not dare to show any because I don't want people to turn around to me and say that they're rubbish, especially the ones that I care a lot about. Aha this is one of my favorite videos of you! I do love you Carrie! :)
You're so awesome Carrie! I always love your videos :D Thank you for existing :D
I really need to take this advice...thanks Carrie!
Your videos always cheer me up.
Carrie, I feel like you could write amazing children books or regular books, you just have that vibe.
I love your hair :) most people pick on me because I have curly hair but I can honestly say yours is beautiful as is your personality and singing! I can't stop listening to your covers which are on the whole a lot better than the originals :).
Oh Carrie, you are just so amazingly adorable, I love to watch your videos, you give great advice. and btw, you look so good!!!
Best advice it think i have gotten in a long time, definately going to help in drama class and with my drumming thank you Carrie! I love you :) xxx
definitely what I needed to hear!! thank you Carrie!
Thanks to your video i'm going to pick up that notebook of half written songs that I haven't touched for years.
I've been making youtube videos on my other channel ImFullOfRandom but I haven't been posting videos in a while cause some of my friends told me my videos aren't good. You can publish your books for free on amazon kindle direct publishing.
I'm now living by this motto... Thanks Carrie :)
Really good advice. I should try this, but sometimes I am even too scared to have an idea and I'm just like ''ah well why should I even think about something when it is going to be shit and no one is going to like it'' and somehow this is just destroying my creativity and I should really stop that, but it's so hard when there is always that voice telling you that it's shit. for some reason my Heart and Mind agrees that you are Awesome.

40,000 words down, thank you Carrie :) x
Now that I see you're worthy of being asked the question: "Dean's hair - thoughts?" Personally, I think it's epic and that it's really cool that he's stuck with it ;D haha :D

Even if I wasn't interested in what you have to say, I would still watch your videos because your hair is amazing.
When Maureen Johnson was covering John Green's videos 2 years ago, she made a very similar vlog, Both your's and her's are very good, and 100% true : )
Oh I will have fun, Carrie.

i believe Maureen Johnson also gave this advice for new writers :) way back in the Brotherhood 2.0 year of Vlogbrothers, while John was on paternity leave
