- Hi everyone!
Today I am bringing you one of my favorite OSTs from The Wind Rises, Tabiji- Muchuu Hikou or Journey- Dreamy Flight.
The version is a slight modification from Animenz's Studio Ghibli Medley video: • Studio Ghibli Piano Me...
The melody of this OST fits perfectly to the movie story setting. At that time, Japan was poor and being dominated by western imperialism. The beginning in the original song uses a special type of instruments called Lute, as well as Harmonica to create the sense of Vicissitude (or lonelines). At 0:45, the use of Tremolo is to imitate the style of the two instruments (Though I didn't do that well to emphasize the main melody because it's difficult to do it on a digital piano ).
In terms of the structure of the OST, it changes from G major to g minor 0:45. At 0:58, the use of third voice (6-note-chromatic-scale) from Animenz is brilliant because it brings so much richness to the main melody. The climax 2:20 always gives me goosebump whenever I play it. For me it feels like the main protagonist has discovered something new in the story, or making great progress on designing planes.
