Hi Stephen, sorry about the smash .😢 the training , breeding, looking after them and this happens. where I race from im an hour from the club and lofts and you can imagine how hard it is for the birds to break or not . In most cases not , but it’s lovely to see them breaking and have a reasonable velocity. The drag always wins but you just have to believe that they’re learning about how to break off . With racing pigeons, how can one find its way and the others can’t ? I think every fancier has said this but we will never know. Hope they’ll come for you 👍👍👍

But as you say there are some good birds missing, and from what I read you certainly are not alone, it is that same old question where do they all go too, If you can manage an update later it would be much appreciated, I have everything crossed for some good news

Hi Robert, appreciate the encouraging words, as you said would trade the position to get them back as that was not a pigeon race! We had another return tonight so just hope they keep moving closer! I can only describe my feeling as I’m sure a lot of fanciers are in the same gut wrenching feeling!! Jesus stephen hearing the pain in youre voice, and see you holding onto the landing board like that is not easy to watch, brings back a few bad memories from when i raced, its a tough one to swallow, but you just have to get on with it, and hope of some coming back in the next few weeks and reports of some also. I wish i could say you get use to it, but ya dont. One ting i will say is you might not see it happen again for 3/4 years, but even at that its to soon, that N/E wind and them hedge and roof hopping is lethal especially over that distance, the further they get home the more tired they are and they are going 2 make mistakes and hit trees and chimneys and power lines and so on. And sadly thats pigeon racing, you learn to take the good with the bad as best as possible after all the time, effort and money you put in with them. The closness you build up with many of them at times and then loose them for what ever reason can be hard. I was given a word of advice when i was 16 from a very old fancier and it definitely helped me over the years, and he said, allways remember, you dont own them, you just have a loan of them. Hope that helps you and youre dad even a little. Enjoy the break of the madness now if you dont go this week, and before you no it they will be trough the moult, and ya be pairing them up for the breeding season, followed by all the shows. Enjoyed the videos all season, hope you keep them going pal
Thank you des for the encouraging words! Dad been hear more times that enough, but as you say we just go on pal! Yes we will enjoy the somewhat break, or does it ever finish lol onwards and upwards 🙌🙌 thanks for watching all year 🤝🤝
Well it actually never really ends, just eases off from now till pairing up time and that's you're choice when you do that, some earlier than others. For the next month it's cleaning out once a day + all the feathers, after that you will feed them once a day and change there drinking water whilst the birds have a little fly out, its also there break time 2 when you think about it. So alot easier days, and because you're dad is not well you will have to get stuck in, please god he gets well soon. Was thinking this morning of 1 time when I was about 10-12 and we had a terrible storm in dublin, more windy than rain but terrible conditions for racing, and me and some lads where walking home from the phoenix park and just about 2 leave it, and we heard and un merciful crash and seen pigeons falling 2 the ground in the Irish presedents back garden at the time in the trees, witch is actually a part an old president gave 2 Dubln Zoo, and is now there African plains part if you have ever being I don't no but, we as lads jumped over the small spiked railings and walked trough the trees and scrub, and found hundreds of northern Ireland pigeons, most where all standing there stunned some where trying 2 take off but couldn't get out of the scrub, and some where so badly injured had 2 kill them, I had seen my brother doing it so showed the lads and most helped me. We all brought some back 2 sheds we had in our back gardens at the time, and our friends came back up with us and we brought cardboard box's with us, we all took as many as we could find, and basically we all fed and waterd and kept them for a few weeks trying 2 break them, but 90% flew off and the rest stayed, so long story short Stephen there is for instance as a time in my life when I seen pigeons hedge or tree or roof hopping and they misjudged say there hight or a rogue gust of wind pushed them down. Now you no why I hate North in the wind or worse N/E as you no there all going 2 hedge etc etc hop and there lies the danger in that wind. So I'm going back almost 35 years now. Sorry f0r the Essay!!, but taught of it this morning. Wind is a bastard you no in a west wind birds can end up in Scotland, and I've heard of birds in Scotland ending up on the islands above Scotland, all these tings do happen, and of course we are at home wondering days weeks later where are they gone like?. No need to thank me or any1 on here for watching weekly, Its a pleasure always Stephen, keep it up
