- McLaren have released the Artura, an all-new model that features a hybrid V6 powertrain, combining a twin-turbo V6 with an electric battery. The car can do up to 11 miles of range on the electric motor and creates 671 horsepower.
Chris gets shown around the car by Jamie Corstorphine, Director of Product Strategy, and also takes it for a drive with some sideways action!
Let us know what you think in the comments below about the new McLaren and whether you would buy one!

I love how Chris isn’t afraid to slate Mclarens build quality right in front of them haha
🧂
I love that Mclaren can take it, unlike Ferrari who didn't like being called out on their testing procedures for magazines.
@@gpaje But, you still like the pasta, right?
Finally got the eff you money needed to be a good car journo
@@gpaje Because Ferrari was called out on absolute BS with no evidence.
Finally you give us a full Chris Harris segment. no special effects just pure motor journalism. Thank you Chris.
It's almost perfect, but missing onboards shots. I don't wanna watch his face, when he drive on the track 😆
Lol...he must've had a few espressos this morning.🤣
Thats because its not a top gear video
this isn't a top gear upload xD
Top Gear is not a good fit for Chris Harris.
First proper non-TopGear car review from Harris in how many years?
Back to the great RUclips videos we originally followed you for, thank you
Yeah, TG was a great launch vehicle for Chris, but I have been waiting for this little gem to shine on his own again. No matter where he goes, there's spit, polish...and shine!
Carry on!
You'll find that between his Collecting Cars pieces, and his Chris Harris Drives segments, he's still been doing his fair share of deep-dive reviews. You just have to search a little harder for them on RUclips.
You got a link to any?
Yeah, I can't even watch his moronic, childish chavving around with the other two apes on Top Gear...it's just absolute idiocy. I guess nowadays the "Gear" in Top Gear comes from some kind of illegal substances? And I used to watch every single Top Gear episode (and Fifth Gear, and US Top Gear, and I still watch all the car stuff on RUclips).
@@pistonburner6448 It's not just you that feels this way. That's all I can say. And, yes, I have been watching for over 20 years now.
Not many journalists have the clout to tell a manufacturer how it is right in front of them. Love it.
The real auto journalist is back speaking "normal" again. No forced TopGear choreographed over-excited sound bite childish sh*te. What a relief to our ears. Wonderful to have you back Chris! Well done McLaren, and much success with the Artura. Ye deserve it.
Finally! I find Top Gear unwatchable.. could watch this all day though.
It's a refreshing change
I really like this format. Everybody is up front and honest about their bias, and it's a pretty laid back review. Even though Macca might need a hard seller right now, Chris refuses to be that man. Cheers!
"Functional jewelery " "oh, that's on an internal PowerPoint presentation isn't it.... because my dog also has functional jewels" - Chris Harris, 2022
😆😆😆
"They serve a different purpose there..." Jamie w/the quick comeback too!

I appreciate Chris Harris puts time an effort into these videos on top of his Top Gear gig. Thank you Harris!
Chris Harris has become bolder and more assertive in his assessments. He is perhaps the only car journalist around who can command that level of authority apart from Harry Catchpole or Harry Metcalfe.
Henry Catchpole just orgasms dramatically at every car he drives with faux amazement. Chris is just real. They're nothing like each other.
@@Jinsun202 Hmm, I see where you are coming from. I like to think of Catchpole's work as veering on the poetic side. I suspect Harry is the better writer and Chris is the better presenter perhaps.
Jason Cammisa on the other side of the pond also deserves a shout i reckon..
Henry Catchpole lol
They're all trying very hard to be more edgy than the other, doesn't suit them
Bless, nearly 20 minutes of Chris Harris. On RUclips. Happy days
Surely there's space on a Sunday evening for a Chris Harris on Cars on mainstream TV. I don't think there's a better car journalist out there who delivers the goods than this fella and his team. Time to go solo Harris and drop the top gear cling-ons.
I'm guessing Neil shot this but those driving shots where the camera car goes straight through and chris hits the chicane then they cross on the next turn was amazing. They work so well together to make a beautiful film!
Yes! Neil and the Grip Productions team
What time?
@@uGotGot1618 well food will be ready around 7:30 so if you want to come around 7:10 to help setup
@@uGotGot1618 between 14:30-14:45 very short but coordinated and excellent!
So good to see Harris doing you tube vids again and not all that top gear jokes and giggles stuff
👌
At the same time I also enjoy the fun and crazy stunts they do at TG nowadays :)
Top gear is utter garbage, he sold out for the money. Bent over for dollars
Look forward to this content more than TG . Not going to lie … Keep it up Chris
Best looking McLaren since the F1.. more of this please. If they continue on this trajectory I might consider buying one of their cars.
Ahem, the P1 perchance??
The p1 wins for me. F1 is............ehh
the quality of this, the drone shots, the unfiltered Harris, the color grading, the continuity. A proper piece of journalism.
One thought on the car, does anyone else feel unnerved by how much the drivers seat moves and flexes under load as Chris chucks it around the track? hopefully that will be sorted in the production model.
Unfiltered Chris Harris is motor journalism gold. When he's not on the Top Gear TV show, you can tell that he's well into the zero-fucks-given stage of his career... and petrolheads are all the better off for it.
You could say he holds all the cards these days. He could annoy a manufacturer and they could ban him, but then their product isn’t on the biggest motoring TV show in the world. He really can say what he wants and they sort of have to take it.
Bro thank God you have this channel. I missed the old "Chris Harris On Cars" before you joined Top Gear.
Loved the ending, Chris talks about his lunch! Funny
@@Fluterra well don’t read the comments until after you watch the video
As an American I'm trying to figure out what he said he had there. Lol
@@RYTF5 Ball of pork bits rolled together.
If I tried to attempt what Chris Harris pulled at @17:38 I’d be sitting in the tire wall with grass all over the windshield and my pants full of sh*t.
I don't believe any car journalist has ever combined driving skill, motor industry insight and media footprint better than Chris Harris. From a driving skill standpoint, he's clear over the horizon from any other primary TG presenter since the 2002 reboot. You'll note that I said "primary" - I'm not saying Chris is better than peak Eddie Jordan, or the late (and dearly missed!) Sabine Schmitz - come on now! And yes, that _"since the reboot"_ qualifier was also very necessary, because Tiff Needell 😉
None of the journalists who I put at least within hailing distance of him from a driving skill perspective, like Jethro Bovingdon (who might be better!), Henry Catchpole, Steve Sutcliffe (who's _definitely_ better), Ollie Marriage, Tiff (of course!), etc. match Chris' overall media profile. Likewise, I don't think that any of them clearly exceed his overall grasp of the industry (though several of them are certainly _comparable_ in that regard).
Back to the pure driving skill part, as evidenced by that track run: he's pretty good, isn't he? Though I'll note that every name I mentioned above would have been able to execute at a similar level, I think.
I'll always remember that he came within _one second_ of a current Formula One driver's time around Silverstone in a 765LT on Series 31 of Top Gear... _after_ said driver had run his lap and _then_ done a rip-snorting burnout to take his tires down.
Based on the way Chris said SPORT when putting it into that mode, I think he’s been listening to Smith and Sniff.
SPPOOORRRRRTTTTT
I like Top Gear, but I wish Paddy would just shut up, this is why I love Chris Harris, just a brilliant car journalist, thank you for these videos, Rj in Oz
I don't think anyone could ever describe Chris as a sycophant. Love the way there's no filter.
Going into spooowt mode? Harris showing subtle appreciation for Smith and sniff.
Dear Chris, Did you get your bangers and the rest at the BBC canteen. It's great to see you making REAL honest commentary about cars again, and that V6 sounds awesome in a very bouncy McLaren
It really shows the difference between Top Gear and this independent production. Chris has more freedom and can add in some real thoughts about a vehicle
This will never get old
Had the pleasure of driving this a few weeks ago. It is unbelievable how quickly it picks up pace. Very well rounded supercar.
@Modern Classic Collectables like every supercar brand i guess. Ferrari have been flogging the same mid engined v8 and front engined v12 car design language since like 2012. A non-enthusiast would be unable to tell the difference between a an f12/812 if you showed them pictures back to back.
@Modern Classic Collectables says the morris minor driver
Epic! As a former 720s owner who tracked it. Hearing what Chris has to say about a car is worth its weight in gold. Especially when it comes to track!
why did you sell 720s? Current whip is..?
@@user-ht9fr6eh9u made money in it after driving her for over a year (2 seasons). I stay in Ontario, Canada so we have garbage weather 6-7 months of the year. Currently I drive a 2006 Camry 😂
@@RizM820 how would you rate Huracan.Performante v 720s? Thanks
@@RizM820 How refreshing is it to be able to park it (the Camry) anywhere or to kerb it and not have a heart attack?
My Mum asked what car I'd buy if she won lotto and gave me a few million. I told her I'd get another Fiesta; I like fast and expensive cars, I just don't want to deal with owning one.
@@user-ht9fr6eh9u I test drove a Performante on the same day as a 720s. The 720s makes the Performante seem slow. The only thing the Perf has on the 720s is that exhaust note.
Chris have come to a point where he speaks what he genuinely feels about the car; even infront of someone representing the manufacturer. Such a delight to watch!
Recent Top Gear has totally lost me. I watched a repeat the other night, and the Paddy, Freddie & Chris Bantz is painful, I think. But, straight up reviews like this from Chris - great!
Chris is the only one who international viewers will understand too
It's dreadful and Christopher's ego is too big for his size 4 feet
The chimney is where the fire comes out.
It’s the extinguisher port.
🤣🤣🤣
Must say the McClaren "Project Manager" stayed Stoic and Solidified in his nature correlating w/ Chris. Good interview.
I like the understated look of this one.
The viper face is really quite appealing, as is the overall body shape. Very nice design.
Agree with Chris, I was very confused why initially the motoring journalists were comparing this to the 296. hybrid considerations aside, the 296 is one level up in terms of price and speed.... This artura is more of competitor to the huracan, r8s, nsx, and the mc20 which is perhaps the biggest rival being released at the same time with roughly the same performance figures and price.
Chris - I say whatever the F- I want, whenever I want - Harris... @ 5:10. Luv this man to pieces, honestly the best
Proud of the surfacing of this, great little team
When a criticism/compliment is due or justified, Chris gives it full beans with objective analysis. In a media world when most influences just kiss the ass of car makers, its so refreshing. Just because its " New " and " Fresh " doesn't mean its without it faults or even worse than previous designs/productions.
Harris just woke up and decided to spit fire that day 🤣🤣 Jamie probably had the biggest exhale when the shoot ended
"But I'm in grave danger of decorating the dashboard right now" what a very and beautifully British way of saying it!
Otherwise I think it's another stunner and impressive car from McLaren!
At first I wasn’t really sold. But the more I look at it, the more I like it.
Having just watched a video that made taking the latest v12 Lamborghini up the Stelvio almost unbearably dull this was such a refreshing change … outstanding work on all fronts.
Right why can’t Top Gear realize Chris does the best reviews…that guy was a snooze fest…..it’s disgusting how they will not get out of their own way.
I reckon that multi link rear is necessary to accommodate the wider, flatter engine and McLaren are giving it some PR spin.
You would think so but he explicitly states the wishbone is at the top - so not a traditional MacPherson setup - which makes even less sense. Bizarre choice and a poor explanation from him.
@@ImBarryScottCSS I reckon the wishbone mounts above the cylinder head and the engine is lifted in from below. It's so unconventional having an upper wishbone and multilink lower. The AMG One has a really funky set up, which is deliberate for performance but I can't see the McLaren solution being down to anything other than packaging. Especially considering Chris' opinion of the rear end.
I tell you what I love about Chris reviews, he is very subtlety telling you his truth if you read between the lines without upsetting the manufacturer.
Loved the ending, brilliant, 👍
With all these nonsense influencers and chancers flooding our feeds, we need to treasure having Chris in our lifetime!
McLaren has more models than I can reasonably keep track of. Crazy.
Agree and they all seem to look the same
@@TheWhooah what, as in exactly like Porsche? It didn't do Porsche any harm so why not Mclaren
@@peanuts2105 Not so. Porsche have clearly defined models and shapes (718, 911, Macan etc all look unique) and people understand the progression for each model (S,GTS etc). McLarens are just door wedges and very hard to distinguish from a 570 to a P1 and there’s £1m between them. At least when Porsche made the 918 it LOOKED like million quid and like nothing else it made
@@TheWhooah well the Macan isn't a Porsche. It's a Volkswagen Tiguan which is a little embarrassing. The 718, Boxter still look like a Porsche which has the same design dna running through the range just like Mclaren which is a story of evolution. But you cannot say a P1 looks like all the rest of them?! Have you seen one and heard one in the flesh? I have and its incredible: it looks and sounds like it came from outer space
@@peanuts2105 all Porsche’s are VW’s if you’re going there. Yeah I have and I’ve driven a 570 and 720S - all very similar. Same engine turned up. The back on the P1 is more impressive as you say but most wouldn’t have a clue which model was which from the first 3/4
That weight figure is really impressive. Sounds more like a sports car over a supercar. 911 beater perhaps

Impossible not to love Chris
I see a Chris Harris film, I click
I love the Artura. I hope McLaren comes out with a PHEV V12 using the 120 degree V6 as a basis and uses it in a Speedtail type car. That would be epic!
We can dream!
No chance, they haven't got the funds or budget to develop anything like that. They will just use the same power train over multiple models just like the V8 twin turbo, powered every model line.
@@pauln0371 GMA Have managed to sell a car with a MHEV V12. Pretty mega.

One of my favourite Chris Harris reviews was his first encounter with the McLaren 570S at Portimao. He loved that.

At first I did not think much of the new Artura. Seemed like a downgrade from previous models. But now I am getting excited. Artura “Touring” version could be pretty good.
Softer suspension for bumpy roads and maybe even a bit narrower tires and lighter rims to get more mass down but easier to get the car to its limits.
@Tuatara JUSTICE League V8 without hybrid system seemed like a better solution for me. V6 usually is boring engine that sounds meh.
I daily drove a E90 M3 for two years and recently had a go in a friends 458, I almost shit myself at how fast it was.. I can’t imagine this thing considering it has 120hp more and its near the same weight.
Imagine the SF90 with a thousand hp, pretty fucking unreal. Cars are definitely getting dangerously quick.
…and the torque
The e90 M3s claimed power was always a bit optimistic. Loads dino’d at around 400bhp. Amazing car and great engine but some came out at 390bhp only 45 more than the e46.
