      BLAIR M Schirmer Capitalism is a horrible destructive system
      The Capitalism system works just way it is supposed. Capitalism was created to squeeze as much profit out a good or service for the capitalist as possible. At the expense of everyone except the capitalist
      The reason that capitalism seem a lot like feudalism is because both are the same system
      Just replaced capitalist bosses with the monarchy and aristocrat

      BLAIR M Schirmer
      Those rich people you speak of are the ones making America the greatest Country in the history of the world. Plutocrats are the reason you have a job and a computer you can spread your ignorant sick ideologies with. Plutocrats are the reason there is such a thing as Computers, railroads, steel, cars, airplanes. I can go on forever but i hope you get the point im making. Socialism destroys incentive and none of this would be around if it weren't for Capitalism. There's a reason no other country's invent and improve technologies and have a thriving economy like America.

      I'm a big fan of the idea that corporations should be classified and taxed in 3 distinct groups:
      1. Domestic Corporations. They do their manufacturing, hiring, advertising, banking, and taxes here. Tax at the lowest level
      2. Multinational Corporations. They do a mix of management and manufacturing, banking, and marketing both here and abroad. Tax at a mixed level based on the amount of money/employment is done within the US.
      3. Foreign Corporations. They sell here, but make their goods or do their work overseas. Simply claiming you have your headquarters here isn't the same as actually being here. Tax steeply.

    Who did this brilliantly? FDR, a rich guy, who was not interested in seeing capitalism either morphing into rightwing authoritarianism as it did in Germany, or producing a backlash leading to a communist dictatorship, as it did in Russia, either of which could have happened in the US during the Depression, so hopeless were most Americans, even those hanging on to jobs, with a 25% unemployment rate across the land with no solution in sight. FDR saw another way, as his 5th cousin had: support and save the capitalist system from itself, from the excesses that Marx had predicted, given unbridled capitalism, by reining in the excesses and starting what we today call the "safety net" for those who need it. While WWII actually lifted the country out of the Depression into an amazing and long economic growth spurt, FDR set us on a practical course (and big business survived very nicely, thank you) that kept us optimistic about the future, and hence wedded to the system for about 50 years. Don't destroy the capitalists, set limits on them. Don't control the lives of the people: help them. Is that not what the government of a civilized nation is for? To make whatever system the people have chosen work? You don't let a fine old watch that has popped a spring (watch? spring? OK, I'm old.) run erratically, but you replace or improve on the spring. You don't smash the whole watch in a tantrum because part of it isn't working. You make it work better. That is something the Chinese communists today are doing much better than the Chinese communists in the era of Mao or all the leaders of those Eastern European and Soviet workers' "paradises" did, or frankly, than Pres. Putin is doing in his country right now. There is no reason why American leaders cannot be skillful in setting limits without stifling economic growth and helping without making the majority of Americans permanently dependent on a government handout. Prof. Reich's suggestion of "reemployment insurance" is excellent. Done the right way, it benefits both business and American workers. There's a start. Finally, in the end, some way must be found to make politicians less beholden to big money, wherever it comes from, as Prof. Reich rightly insists. I share Heidi's skepticism that this Congress or any likely Congress in the next twenty years whose members benefit by courting big money (by which time something awful will have happened to our nation if we don't get back on course) will pass campaign finance reform and have it upheld by the Court, but this past Tuesday showed us that voters are capable of ignoring the propaganda that big money buys and voting not for the person with the most or most negative commercials, not for the person getting the most positive responses on line (which could be fake and from Russia or who knows where), but the person they conclude on their own is best for the job. We the People can take that step without Congress, the Court, the president or anyone else telling us to. Nullify to the greatest extent possible the benefits big money affords the politicians in the next election and they won't be seeking the big money any more because it will be a waste of time and effort to do so. Shall we?

    • @kev492001
      @kev492001 7 лет назад

      +gnirol FDR was one of the worst presidents in history. FDR and his Democrat cronies created the Great Depression, and nobody looked forward to the future until after he was gone from all his backward way of thinking about the economy. Nazi Germany was a leftwing fascist party not a rightwing thing. They didn't 'save' capitalism from itself, they almost turn America into a dump like what Hugo Chavez did in Venezuela but average and rich American's stopped it. You know why we have 8 year term limits on the presidents now?? Because of FDR acting like a control freak over the economy, and trying to screw it up. The Democrat Party and Nazi's and Communist are all from the left side. Its a terrible party that's done a bunch of terrible things. Wake up people, they are trying to take America down the path they took Argentina and Venezuela.

    Can't be fixed, you've gone past the point and into hyper-capitalism whose main fuel is GREED. Corporations and the Uber-rich do not view the country as sacred nor do they view the average citizen as whole. They are 2-dimensional sources of revenue who must be controlled. This may be the source of your next civil war. Sooner or later you run out of distractions and people wake up. People online talk of existence as a simulation, you're already there. American capitalism has become a pyramid scheme, with a guy named Ponzi running it. When your core governing mechanism, the White House has 5 or 6 billionaires and an assorted number of millionaires running the show you know something has gone horribly wrong.

    Any tax cut is a stimulus. The last thing than an economy at 3% growth and 5% unemployment needs is a massive round of stimulus. It would only lead to inflation and asset price bubbles. Now's the time to keep reducing the deficit and to let interest rates rise slowly so people can get some returns on their savings. From an economist's point of view, tax cuts now make no sense. A move that would make sense is a budget neutral tax reform, aiming at creating growth through simplifying the tax code to make things easier for small businesses, entrepreneurs and investors.

    I have a thought. How about we take those companies that pay so little that their employees have to access help for food, housing, and healthcare and make them pay for those programs to include the administration costs? How 'bout that? Then at least we wouldn't have to pay the taxes to support those programs and eventually the Walmarts, McDonald's and such will figure out that it is less expensive for them to pay their workers a living wage.

    Yes is Amazing.... We need health care for all, living wage no less than $ 18.00 but $15.00 would be great start. We need to take back production of all our own products "all", bring all call center's back which would itself create over two million Job's. Buy American product's only. Then raise corporate tax up to 50% yes that's right for after deduction they would be about 16.7% for those who pay many lie pay none. Just like people raise taxes on household making a million or more, higher after making five, 10 and do so. This will bring back middle Americans who in fact could become millionaires as well.
    Cut all money out of Politics as Bernie raises his own money so should all who are running for office and cap at $10 M.
