Thank you very much. These exercises were not intended for beginners, but if you feel like a challenge, go for it! It's always good to have high expectations as long as you don't get discouraged.
I have been trying to play the first two, not too fast though, using some dynamic. The pinky sometimes buzzes while using the 1st finger and there is a transition which is not easy. But if I can hear the beauty of the exercises while playing, I guess I am doing something right... The feeling is of an achievement. Happy to acknowledge some of the things that are needed to be worked on :)
Just discovered you so happy!!!!!! Thank you for your generous love and support and offerings. I just bought your pdf and advise anyone reading this comment to do the same. Falling in love with the ukulele again.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the support and it's nice to know you're enjoying and benefiting from my tabs and exercises. Let me know if there's anything I can help you with.
Thanks a bunch. I'm playing since 6 months now and all I did was strumming chords and singing but I always wanted to use my right hand better. Nice video , very helpfull..
I'm already on the third exercise and can already play the first two exercises! Not perfect though =D Can't wait to learn some Irish tunes from your book!
Thank you so much! Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or comments. By the way, there will be an update to the book soon with more tunes that I've uploaded since publishing. You'll get a message when it's ready.
I sent out the update to all my customers - did you receive it? I can't be 100% sure if everyone's getting messages from Gumroad (who manage the sales). Let me know if you didn't and I'll mail it to you. Thanks,
Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks. I'm trying to learn fingerstyle and I find that in order to give depth to a song, you have to sort of play around with the chords and how they might fit into the melody since there is no bass and I find that the harmony is implied. Is this true?
Backing a song with fingerpicking is still a chord so harmonies will be there naturally. What's more difficult on the uke, especially high G, is playing a melody while fingerpicking as it tends to get lost in the accompaniment. In this case, it's a question of dynamics - trying to make the melody stand out.
Hi Jon,... thks for the inside of this technique... Since thus is my 1st time purchasing something online n not too sure if my PayPal payment to U will go through , I've made minimal amount of donation to U. Next time if I'm interested in something else I'll be generous .... thks 😆
This is a Baton Rouge concert ukulele. The brand make very good budget ukuleles, I recommend them for anyone who doesn't want to spend a lot of money 🙂
hello. thank you for the exercises. can i ask if there are individual fingers to use on specific frets as you move the left hand down the fretboard? regards
Thanks for your comment. I'm too lazy to add fingerings to my tabs - but seriously you should work out for yourself which fingerings are the best for you. Not relying on fingerings given in the tab is a good habit to get into - you will develop the ability to find shapes that reduce unnecessary movement, making your playing more fluid.
Hi, thanks for the comment. This video was really all about right-hand technique - which can be applied to any chord shapes - so that's why I positioned the camera that way. What I play isn't really for beginners, but if you have an intermediate level you should be able to learn it from the tabs. Sorry about that!
***** Thanks Jon, all is very well. I posted a link to this video at Ukulele Underground, I'm sure it will be well received. Many there are looking for good quality instructional ukulele videos and this one fits the bill perfectly.
For the shape 7500 I use first and third finger and for the shape 5400 I slide down my first to the 4th fret and use second on the 5th fret. But do whatever feels comfortable for you!
In this video I'm playing a Baton Rouge UR3 Concert ukulele, with Aquila Nylgut strings. This is a laminate mahogany top that cost me around 90€ and I'm really happy with it. Good strings make a huge difference but fortunately Baton Rouge fit Aquila strings at the factory so I was able to get a good idea of how it should sound before I bought it. On other videos you can see a Baton Rouge V6 Venus made of Bocote, another exotic hardwood, and a V4 Sun, both concert size. Thanks for watching the vids!
will this strengthen my finger picking, im just starting like 2 weeks playing, and when i pick with my ring finger it feels so funky. I guess ill get used to it.
+JukeGalore Most players start with strumming chords but there are no rules - if you want to learn fingerstyle go ahead! Doing arpeggios is good way to get all your fingers working and avoid falling into the trap of only ever using thumb and one finger. And use any chords you like to practice, you don't have play what I'm playing here. Thanks for watching.
Hi, sorry for the slow reply. It's difficult to say how long it takes - that depends on how much you practice. Just be patient and practice slowly until you can do it without thinking. Remember that these exercises can be done with any chords, they are to demonstrate right-hand patterns. So try some of them just using C or G first and see how you go. Good luck!
Sorry about that, these are exercises, not a tutorial. Have you tried my easy fingerpicking tutorial? Link in description above. Any questions, let me know :-)
Well, the tremolo and the harmonics are tricky but the others are more intermediate level. Get the tabs and have a go - you can be the judge of their difficulty!
I love these exercises! Definitely more advanced than I was expecting. It adds so much depth to the sound of the ukulele.
Thank you for watching!
Beautiful exercises, not very easy for a complete beginner, but I love the challenge because they are so
musical. thank you!

It'a a Baton Rouge UC3 concert, cost €90, about $100. The brand is excellent value for money. Thanks for watching :-)
Which finger should you use when you're in the 5th and 7th frets?
