You're actually right about that. One such example I can think of is the Swastika. It's an ancient, religious symbol that dates back thousands of years. In many regions around the world, such as Asia, and in many religions, such as Hinduism, the Swastika symbolizes happiness, good luck, as well as well-being. However, after the Nazis adopted it as the symbol of their party, and did some of the most heinous things in human history, the Swastika came to be seen by many as a symbol of racism, hate, bigotry, genocide, and war. It's really sad, actually, and it sadly looks like the Swastika will never be restored to its original symbolism ever again.
With all the sympathetic villain origins stories being made, I wouldn't be surprised if Gaston despised smart women because his mother was killed by a bookshelf!

Yet he ruined the songs, now they have certain parts of the songs have these weird pauses that ruined the song. Like 'Prince Ali' had a weird pause were Will Smith waited for the kings approval to enter his palace and it felt drawn out. The only good song was Arabian Nights
Will Smith did not have a good singing voice as a result of his rap background. The guy could not inflect or change his vocal tones worth a damn, most of the songs he sings come across as one note monotone vocals that do nothing for the music itself. And he is working with instrumentals that are a step up from the original. His genie comes across, less as a friend and someone who genuinely cares for Aladdin, and more like an ass who is annoyed to even be with him most of the time.
I don't know about the live action Aladdin movie. Sure the actor of Jafar could've been better (example: being dramatic as the animated version when he said his second wish). But it was still decent to me
There's a lot wrong with this list.... first of all, Aladdin. My sister totally dig the remake. Lady and the Tramp? I don't know how it looks like in the original, which I will watch it later on.
I gotta disagree with you on this. 1. The actor for Aladdin sounded like he was reading his lines as if they were in rehearsal, just listen to how he delivers his lines. 2. They added several extra characters that had no business in that movie (namely Jasmine's hand-maiden). 3. The music was awful in terms of its vocals but its instrumentals were the only good thing about it. 4. As for Jasmine, they tried to play up the idea of some girl boss trope but it didn't exactly pan out and was a poorly handled due to her "coming out strong" song being nothing more than a dream sequence that went nowhere. She tried to play her character way too seriously. 5. Will Smith's genie comes across more like he is annoyed to even be there rather than someone who is caring and wants to help. His singing is bad because of his rap background; the guy struggles to sing higher or lower than a single note and it comes out as a more monotone, one-note, belt. 6. The actor who played Jafar was just so unconvincing as a villain, don't get me started on his voice. The movie was bad, let's be honest.
As someone who loved Aladdin animated movies/series, Agreed it wasn't that bad. Definitely can't be compared to original but it wasn't as bad as people are making it out to be.

I liked the remake of Aladdin. The costumes were good. Jasmine got more screen time, and she gets the throne and the guy at the end. Some of the plot holes were erased.

Hey, I actually really enjoyed that remake! Yes, I know it was controversial, but it wasn’t all that bad! Halle really knocked it out of the park with her voice, they they made Eric’s character more important, interesting and incredible instead of just being the “ladies’ love interest” in the original, and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s new songs were incredible too!
As the old saying goes, "If it ain't broke! Don't fix it!" The majority of Disney animated movies are fine the way they are without any live-action remakes necessarily.
I personally hated the Beauty and the Beast remake. Emma Watson was very obviously auto-tuned whenever she sang and it was so goddamn jarring and even painful to listen to. And they butchered Belle's iconic golden ball gown and made it into a yellow ugly nightmare prom dress.
@@mattiasolsson1523He’s not being a crybaby….. the original is a piece of art…. the remake is a piece of garbage! It is not. It was inspired by the animated Fantasia segment. I sure would like to know which "original movie"(therefore not the animated Fantasia segment)it was "re-made" off
Well it's not really a remake, but a movie which had some similarities to ONE story in Fantasia and a hommage scene to it. And honestly, I liked the movie quite a lot. It has some inventive and sweet action scenes, funny moments, despite the kid-oriented tone of the movie.
The Little Mermaid should be on this list. I just found the movie disappointing. The ocean itself seemed so empty of other mermaids and fish. The animals also suffer the same problem as the animals in the Lion King: expressionless faces. Having Ariel forget that she was suppose to kiss Eric in three days was unnecessary. Replacing staling the wedding with crashing an engagement party was a downgrade. Having all of Ursula’s poor unfortunate souls disappear(especially King Triton) instead of being turned into bottom dwellers is confusing . Well Beauty and the Beast was spared.
The Little Mermaid Is Good Compare To The Movies on This List and Plus... It's Such A Recent Movie, People Probably Didn't Got A Chance To Watch It Yet.
The little mermaid remake was disappointed. The expand story was one good thing to improve the character especially Eric, but i find the cast mixed and not charming as the original which is expected.

I will admit that the hula scene in the original is better, but I think the reason why they changed it in the remake was that so people wouldn’t say that it’s animal abuse to have a real meerkat in a hula skirt and wearing a flower lei as it’s a wild animal, and people who do those things is considered animal abuse! Or maybe just so the internet won’t call it cringy for a realistic CGI meerkat to hula dance while saying his warthog friend is food!
Jungle Book remake of King Louie 'I want to be like you" song was terrible because in the original King Louie was dancing, while in the remake he juts sits and doesn't move at all.
I think Cruella is one of the example of what live action remake should look like. It’s not a rehash of something that we have seen before, it’s something new and different with new origin story.
But her acting is dry and emotionless most of the time. There is no depth-of-feeling, or any feeling for that matter. She is just bland, monotone, and generally has no emotional expression through the movie.
I actually like the live action Aladdin and The Lion King. the only thing that I didn't like about Aladdin was that Robin Williams wasn't the genie but otherwise it was a pretty good movie. I am just glad that James Earl Jones was able to reprise the role of Mufasa. should of had Jeremy Irons back as Scar though. the best and greatest Peter Pan movie has got to be Hook starring both Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman!!
Saw it; I don't recommend it. While there are good moments (and is still a bit better than Pan) the movie's unforgivably dull! Even Captain Hook is dull.
Tbf the original Mulan, the Disney adaptation is based of, has no comic relief either when remembering that it ended with her taking her own life so she don't be forced to be a concubine.
I had no idea they had made a Lady and the Tramp remake. Honestly, I am glad I had no idea because this looks awful. Also, the fact that the Little Mermaid didn't make it onto this list is an absolute crime.
1:07 - 1:12 Except the Dalmatians talking wouldn’t have worked so well in live-action. I feel like it was definitely a smart choice to have them be mute and just let the body language and expressions of the Dalmatians speak their emotions and personalities without literally speaking. Sometimes “show don’t tell” can be an effective tool in movies.
The problem is the movie is supposed to be more about the dogs. 1999's remake puts more emphasis on the human interaction and less on the dogs who are supposed to be the stars.
keep 101 Dalmatians out of your mouth!! also, being "too serious" was the least of Mulan's problems... turning her into a superhero & fundamentally misunderstanding the story was the main issue.

If Aladdin is on this list, it was DEFINITELY NOT Will Smith's fault. He did a FANTASTIC job of portraying the genie in his own way. Will really felt the pressure of having to live up to Robin William's genie. In multiple interviews, he explained that he would really have to do the genie in his own way, but still honor the memory of Robin Williams because of how Robin turned the genie into such a BELOVED and ICONIC character. Will Smith REALLY KNEW that the audience would be judging his performance as the genie and he REALLY KNEW that the audience would be very CRITICAL of EVERY LITTLE DETAIL. If the Aladdin remake is bad, that is NOT Will Smith's fault. He did a WONDERFUL job at bringing his own sense of style and flavor to the genie's character. He did NOT disappoint.
They both also come from the same as year as Pinocchio a True Story, a.k.a. the home of “father When can I leave to be on my on own. I got the whole world to see.” by the way, whatever happened to “Pinocchio no way home”
I agree with your top pick, but you didn't list the biggest reason why its number 1. See Pinocchio is a story about learning from your mistakes and becoming a better person through the punishments of one's actions. Pinocchio wasn't allowed to make a bad decision in this film. He makes it to school instead of turning around and choosing to go the other way. One could argue the cricket is the only reason he made it to school, but the fact he made it to his destination means the point of this scene is lost. The most glaring flaw has to be his lack of destructive desires once he gets to Pleasure Island. He turns into a donkey in the original because he was being an ass, but here, he was determined not to break anything, so where's the lesson? It fails as a modern day adaptation because he's meant to be flawed and becomes a better person through his mistakes. But in a film where he isn't allowed to make them in the first place, this film fails to adapt the original story
Well, in the original, Pinocchio was less of an ass compared to the other boys at Pleasure Island, so that’s why he didn’t fully transform and only grew ears and a tail. My theory is that a boy completely transforms into an ass if they reach a higher level of badness and considering Pinocchio was at a minor level, his transformation is much more slower than instantaneous as it was with Lampwick’s.
Of course pinocchio is at the top of the list. The fact that Disney got outdone by guillermo del toro proves that they should've left this movie alone.
The only live action "remake" I enjoyed was Cruella. It felt like a new take on the character and I adored the costume designs and punk rock atmosphere. Cruella was an entertaining main character, all the acting was fantastic, and the Baroness was a phenomenal antagonist. It felt like a new film and not a remake
Ok I really liked Aladdin, I was hesitant that it would tarnish the legacy of Robin Williams but I think it was respectful and just different enough from the original.
I mean, he is playing his own Genie. He doesn't even replace Robin Williams' performance at all. Hell, I'm sure Robin is smiling from heaven, see everyone happy with how Will's performance as his own impacted. 😌
They also put Elemental on their list of Worst Pixar Films despite the film being only recent and not even 1 or 2 years old to be a legit contender. If I had been Peter Sohn, I’d call them out on its placement.
I feel the Aladdin remake is even worse than the Dumbo remake, because I nearly walked out of the theater when I saw Aladdin because I got angry when I saw it! Dumbo at least was trying to be different and not being a direct copycat! Disney should stop doing anymore live action remakes, go back to original live action movies! Also please stop pushing sequels, Disney need to create new IPs!
The ones that I disagree about this list are Aladdin 1999 101 Dalmatians Mulan The Lion King Alice in Wonderland They were pretty good remakes. I love the original version of those movies but the remakes were pretty good too

The actor who played Jafar was just so unconvincing as a villain, don't get me started on his voice. Mulan They played it way too serious, took out every single ounce of humor, turned her into a Mary Sue with superpowers, and tried to make it a bit closer to the legend which is dark and dreary to say the least. This was a movie meant specifically for a Chinese audience. The Lion King No heart, they went for realistic depictions of the animals in the wild and that hurt its ability to convey emotions since animals are all but incapable of expressing facial expressions. What their faces are showing do not line up with the emotion they are trying to express. Plus the story hasn't changed at all so there isn't anything about it to make is stand out. Alice in Wonderland Alice herself is awful because she has no emotion of any kind. Her face conveys little emotion, same with her voice. She is boring, bland, and honestly is forgettable. 1999 101 Dalmatians Honestly, I grew up watching this and prefer the animated version. It does not change much of the story, except for Pongo's owner being a game developer rather than a musician. Other than that it's the same story.
I respectfully disagree with Aladdin being on here. Citing Robin Williams(Rest in Peace) cannot be replaced. Well DUH. I think Will did an absolutely amazing job with the role he played. I do agree there are some minor gripes but overall, Aladdin was FINE.
The little mermaid should be on this list too but everyone just acts like its the perfect disney movie just because Ariel is Black i bet thats the only reason why they casted that girl.
Aladdin and 101 Dalmatians are the only remakes on this list I've actually watched, and Aladdin is my favorite of the two. Even if the movie is awful, it can just be enjoyed as one of those 'so bad it's good' movies we're so fond of. And if you're not convinced, I have endured worse movies than that like Son Of The Mask and The Cat In The Hat, so believe me when I say my acquired tastes are quite diversified and have little reason to prevent me from enjoying mediocre flicks every once in a while..
Seriously? 101 dalmatians over the abomination that was the little mermaid? Such a shame disney think CGI over artistry and story telling us what modern audiences want. They couldn't be more wrong.
Maleficent doesn’t get nearly enough credit for being a horrible remake. While Angelina Jolie looked and acted the part, Disney seems to misunderstand that Maleficent is supposed to be a villain, not a sympathetic protagonist. I nearly walked out on the movie when it was her delivering the kiss of true love. SHE DOESNT EVEN TURN INTO A DRAGON; HER ICONIC BATTLE! And don’t even get me started on the complete character butchery of everyone else. At least other remakes on this list go for some resemblance, whereas Maleficent just threw everything that made Sleeping Beauty good out the window and pretended their version was better. No animated movie will ever match the visual display that was Sleeping Beauty, and no live action will make it any better. As a side thought, I think Peter Pan is the antagonist. Someone who dismembers another human and feeds the piece to a crocodile isn’t a good or heroic person. He is a kid, and you cannot expect him to have the rationale of an adult. Hook is more relatable as the wronged villain over Peter who has no real redeeming qualities.
Let me just say something probably controversial real quick... Aladdin was SO FREAKING GOOD DUDE ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Yes, this film is not faithful to the original in terms of accuracy, however they gave a much bigger spotlight to all of the characters it actually mattered most. The costumes in this film are BEAUTIFUL and Will Smith's take on the genie is not meant as a recreation, it's a take. In so many ways, Robin Williams genie blows Will Smith's out of the water but in many other ways, Will Smith's blows Robin Williams' out of the water too. Two things can exist at once, stop gatekeeping nostalgia.
How dare. 101 Dalmatians was great for having its own original twist and not following the original exactly. Plus let me say it louder for the people at the back. Not all live-action movies with animals need the animal to talk!

I Especially hated that they left out Mushu. Mushu played by Eddie Murphy made the animated mulan great
When it came to Genie, I was just happy Will Smith made it his own and didn't just try to copy Robin Williams did in the original
if he did copy him the movie most likely would of been a lot worse
Yet he ruined the songs, now they have certain parts of the songs have these weird pauses that ruined the song. Like 'Prince Ali' had a weird pause were Will Smith waited for the kings approval to enter his palace and it felt drawn out. The only good song was Arabian Nights
That was one thing I was scared about for the remake. I'm glad he had his own version of the Genie. Robin Williams is still the number 1 Genie.
@@Kage342 though nobody could be as good as Robin Williams was as Genie
I don't know about the live action Aladdin movie. Sure the actor of Jafar could've been better (example: being dramatic as the animated version when he said his second wish). But it was still decent to me
Me too I actually liked the live action movie a whole lot.
That enough to say, but remove the cobra fight is a crime.
It may have had its moments but the movie doesn’t hold a candle to the original. Same thing for Will Smith, he’s no Robin Williams at all.
@@seankent9057 Well it's not easy finding perfect actors/actress to fill in roles when the original one passed away
It sucked! I love the original.
I didn’t think Aladdin 2019 was that bad it’s one of the more decent disney live action movies 🤷♀️
I cried when I heard about Robin Williams’ passing. That’s why I like the older version more. 😢
I like Aladdin.. will didn't try to replace Robin which what I like
the remake of 101 dalmations is a classic. i wouldn't call it a bad remake.
I remember watching that when I was a kid. Pretty fun NGL

I'll admit the 101 Dalmatians remake is good. But I can't say the same for the sequel.
This is why no one like Patrick Mealey anymore. Ever since he and Tom Agliotti we're both hired, the channel is still permanently hated. This is why we're raging quit on WatchMojo. Ranker is better. I liked the remake of Aladdin. The costumes were good. Jasmine got more screen time, and she gets the throne and the guy at the end. Some of the plot holes were erased.

At least in the live action version. Will's Genie goes into the details of wishes (and what happens if you don't word them just right)

True
The little mermaid remake was also atrocious
Yah
They didn't added that horrible remake to the list in order to not be called racist.
Don't fix it!"
The majority of Disney animated movies are fine the way they are without any live-action remakes necessarily.
The only reason they were sort of bad is because they weren't necessary at all.
Nah some of them were just straight up bad to be very honest.
I personally hated the Beauty and the Beast remake. Emma Watson was very obviously auto-tuned whenever she sang and it was so goddamn jarring and even painful to listen to. And they butchered Belle's iconic golden ball gown and made it into a yellow ugly nightmare prom dress.
The fact that The Lion King remake made more money than the original at the box office is easily the biggest disrespect to the classic. 😢
Cry baby
@@mattiasolsson1523He’s not being a crybaby….. the original is a piece of art…. the remake is a piece of garbage! It is not. It was inspired by the animated Fantasia segment. I sure would like to know which "original movie"(therefore not the animated Fantasia segment)it was "re-made" off
Well it's not really a remake, but a movie which had some similarities to ONE story in Fantasia and a hommage scene to it. And honestly, I liked the movie quite a lot. It has some inventive and sweet action scenes, funny moments, despite the kid-oriented tone of the movie.
@@justhumenau6156I’m pretty sure there is a book series as well.
I wouldn't blame you.
Heartless cash grabs, all of them. Fuck Disney remakes.
Beauty and the Beast was way worse than The Little Mermaid.

Jungle book is by far the BEST live action remake
And yet it is a tonal trainwreck dragged by bad CGI, lack of character development and horrible acting.

I actually like Alice in Wonderland. Making her older and a little more fleshed out as a person in her real life appeals to me.

Aladdin and 101 Dalmatians are far from bad remakes tho. Sure Will Smith can't replace the great Robin Williams but he was decent.
I reckon Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin remakes weren't as bad as people think.
Tbf the original Mulan, the Disney adaptation is based of, has no comic relief either when remembering that it ended with her taking her own life so she don't be forced to be a concubine.

Mulan was a discrace as an movie and remake. I like Alice a lot.
keep 101 Dalmatians out of your mouth!! also, being "too serious" was the least of Mulan's problems... turning her into a superhero & fundamentally misunderstanding the story was the main issue.

The ones that I don't think should be on this list is Alice in wonderland and Aladdin.
They didn't mention how terrible the Aladdin actor's acting was. Holy shit he was bad!
The live-action version of Pinocchio was so bad, Guillermo del Toro beat Disney at their own game with his animated version! And won an Oscar!
And this travesty of a recreation won the 43rd Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Remake or Sequel hence why it is number 1 on this list.
And they messed up Jiminy Cricket too
Well, in the original, Pinocchio was less of an ass compared to the other boys at Pleasure Island, so that’s why he didn’t fully transform and only grew ears and a tail. My theory is that a boy completely transforms into an ass if they reach a higher level of badness and considering Pinocchio was at a minor level, his transformation is much more slower than instantaneous as it was with Lampwick’s.
Unpopular opinion: I like the Alice in Wonderland (and it's sequel) and Dumbo remake.

That’s because it wasn’t a remake, it was an origin story.

Mulan
They played it way too serious, took out every single ounce of humor, turned her into a Mary Sue with superpowers, and tried to make it a bit closer to the legend which is dark and dreary to say the least. This was a movie meant specifically for a Chinese audience.
The Lion King
No heart, they went for realistic depictions of the animals in the wild and that hurt its ability to convey emotions since animals are all but incapable of expressing facial expressions. What their faces are showing do not line up with the emotion they are trying to express. Plus the story hasn't changed at all so there isn't anything about it to make is stand out.
Alice in Wonderland
Alice herself is awful because she has no emotion of any kind. Her face conveys little emotion, same with her voice. She is boring, bland, and honestly is forgettable.
1999 101 Dalmatians

This is why I choose Warner Bros. over Disney.
Almost perfect. The one blight; you started with 101 Dalmations (1996). A fucking classic!!!!
Not all of them were bad but disney should have let animated be animated

And when you're down in Wonderland, YOU'LL FLOAT TOO!!! 😆

101 Dalmatians was great for having its own original twist and not following the original exactly. Plus let me say it louder for the people at the back. Not all live-action movies with animals need the animal to talk!
And yet, they still have more planned in the future.

I actually really liked Aladdin. I this is not a popular opinion, but I thought Will Smith’s Geni was better than Robin Williams’. And I’m not really sure The Sorcerer’s Apprentice can be called a “remake” but I liked that too.
