For the second time this week your review has beaten mine by a couple of hours :-) I'm with you entirely on this one. A great batch and I couldn't be happier. The thing that stood out a little to me is that this year seems slightly more well matured. Not necessarily older but like they've used some really good casks. I have a head to head video with this year's batch and the previous batch 12 coming out soon. Also fully agree that it's incredibly frustrating that Laphroaig continue to only give us the information they want us to know when it comes to filtration and colouring. There is not a person in the world that would buy Laphroaig CS and be disappointed if it was pale... can't understand their logic at all! Cheers!
Genuinely so happy. I just bought this for my dad for Christmas. I bought it online and order the regular Laphroaig 10 year, but they sent me this version and I only payed £36!
By far your quirkiest, funniest, most enthusiastic yet sincere (almost with a child-like genuinity) video yet. This is more of an ode to a whisky you really, really enjoy than a review. And I'm here for it. Loved every minute. That passion, that joy you feel when experiencing this dram is so evident that I want to try this, if only to feel a semblance of what you so eloquently expressed. Absolutely brilliant!
@@MaltActivist i took your advice. I got a bottle of the batch 13 and drank it. Then i got another and drank that. Then i got a third and took a bath in it
Thank you for this review that I have been waiting for. Where did you buy this one and the Cairdeas 2021 PX cask? I can't find them anywhere here in the United States or Denmark or Netherlands where I buy from overseas??? The Distillery will not sell to me either because of some BS laws or import agreements........:( Slainte'
@@MaltActivist I'm in California and would love to buy from the distillery but for some political reason they will not sell to me directly. I see you listed having shipped to multiple ports to get to you. Have you experienced a similar problem as I am having and discovered a way to buy with the issue I am facing?......Cheers!
@@gman5986 well, sir, you have no one but your govt to blame for this. The US probably has the world's strictest laws regarding transportation of alcohol (into and across the country). That's really the issue nothing else. I don't Canada is any easier, frankly. I have American friends with similar tales of woe. I wish there was some way I could help.
Great video. Looks like you had a lot of fun making this. Really enjoy the 12. If you still have some would love to see a 12/13 side by side tasting ? Cheers
They keep churning them up in big numbers, hence why collectors steer clear of this wonderful Laphroaig. Really need to commend Laphroaig for that. Last one was an abolute ace, probably one of the very best among their batches. That’s what I thought about their first green striped one too, but it got bettered a year later. Great to hear it matches up with its illustrious predecessors. Thank you, MA. Everything you say here makes sense and I completely agree with. Great contribution as always ✌️
Great review. Very tempted to grab a bottle when my local liquor chain releases this batch but at $125 CAD it’s hard to justify paying almost double $ of Laph 10. Thoughts?
hmmm fair question. I'll tell you why I buy this whisky. I have every batch since 001 and I have an obsession with collecting sets. So my reasons are beyond rational. Your point is valid, however, with the 10 you're getting a measly 40% vs the 13 where you have a lot more ABV (57.9%) - overall I think it's simply a better whisky to drink. And once in a while it's ok to splurge a little extra.
What an entertaining and insightful review, MaltActivist - you did it again! This is probably the best one you have ever done, at least IMHO (I know I said the same thing in respect of another review earlier this year, but this one really nails it…). No one does Laphroaig as you do! Kudos!! 👍👍👍
I’m not sure it’s coloured...on the last laphroaig day this year John Campbell specifically said that all expressions 48% and above are non chill filtered and no colour added. I agree it should be on the label but that was from his mouth and he said all cairdeas as well are the same. He said the px was natural colour. Also think COVID had a big part in the delays from all distilleries. Great reviews and love your channel. Big laphroaig fan here as well
If you look on Whisky Base for Batch 13, there is a reviewer who says this is the 1st batch they’ve added color to. He has the German bottles; in Germany, by law, a distillery has to disclose the coloring added on the bottles - this is the 1st year for the CS that they do so. The John Campbell video is from 1 year ago - I saw that one where he made those statements.
Been waiting for this one. I like the 2020 so much I recently got another two bottles. I'll get round to this one though. It's my favourite distillery offering and that includes all the old stuff. It's also the only thing in the official line up that can compete with the consistently excellent independent bottlings. Can't for the life of me understand why they colour it as it's only drunk by whisky nerds like us. Great OTT review.

Sweet. Glad you concur. Going to watch your review now.
Me too, will check it out. Looking forward to your comparison.
I bought this because of you. Found it in a shop in Germany for € 95,- Absolutely smashing whisky!
So happy to hear that. Glad you liked it!

just opened my first batch 13 Laphroaig and tried it with regular 10 and batch 15, and I gotta say: batch 13 is GREAT, it opens up after a while.
I'm in Omaha, NE... Went into our local BIG outlet yesterday, and there were 20 bottles of batch 13 for $75.00 each... I bought 3...
Nice one!!!!

No nonsense. Just matured in Ex-Bourbon casks and bottled at cask strength. That's why I love Whisky. Cheers mate!
Wholeheartedly agree with you sir!
I work at a liquor store and my boss gifted me a batch 13 for my 31st bday. What a gift to celebrate 10 years of legal drinking.

If that's true then I'm going to have to fact check that. Thanks for the headsup.
If it's not in the label then there is no reason to assume it's true. Two frickin words! What is wrong with these people in Scotland.

The world would pay for better ABV in the standard 10 year .... its a crime to colour and chill filter it.
