    Those compensator nuts are notorious for backing off as well. I had to brake spray the threads and apply red loctite and re torque the compensator nut to 150lbs. No problem since. If you ever have to remove it for any reason, just apply some heat with a little propane torch and it comes right off again. I always accepted the clunking sound going into first gear, it’s what they do!

      I always clean the threads good, and use red loctite. Thanks for watching.

    👍 I use redline in my 98 softail custom and I’m happy with it. Have a good weekend. Frank.

    Thanks Big Ed my 06 twin cam softail deluxe clunks pretty good. I would like to quiet it down some. But I think I’ll pass on the Dark Horse set up. I agree with you I have two shovels and they don’t make no where near the racket my twin cam does when dropped in 1st. gear. Thanks again Ed you take care and ride safe.

    I agree on the cost of upgrade but stock ones suck I’ve run them in big hp bikes and it’s a go to part for me
    Hayden is about the best for dollar right now can’t wait for the next update
    Peace out BigEd have a great weekend brother 🤙🏾✊🏾

    On my 2011 Road King classic my compensator went bad around 50,000 miles, when they go bad you know it, when I would shut the bike off, you would hear this horrible metal grinding sound like a bag of marbles exploded in the primary and sometimes at start up the bike would stall and cough and you would hear the same metal grinding sound like marbles exploded in the primary. The bike always had the signature Harley clunk when putting the bike in first gear. So I installed the screaming eagle compensating sprocket Also had to epoxy the plastic oil slinger inside the primary cover to help sling more oil on the compensator. Poor oil circulation to the compensator is what primarily leads to their failures. I also installed a new stock Harley spring loaded chain tensioner however I have also installed those Hayden automatic tensioners in other peoples bikes and I haven’t had a problem with either of them. and since installing the screaming eagle compensator I haven’t had a problem with the compensator since. And yes, it still has the signature Harley clunk going into first gear, but that never bothered me.👍🍺 SLICK

      I never experienced the clunk with any of my other harleys, and I knew people said it was normal, guess it is something i'll have to get used to. Thanks Slick. I didnt have to put the slinger in mine.

    I think they came out with it when the first compensator I know I had that one in my '09 FLH. And it definitely kicked back when you started it hot it's cuz the springs weren't those washer springs were too weak so when they came out with the screaming eagle one it was springs were larger and I think they were much better on that kicking back everybody thought like the starter or something wrong with the starter and this is back in '09 maybe

    Hey, check your transmission shifter shaft and linkage on your Road King, I replaced the linkage on my 012. Ryan Urlacher and SIK Baggers have videos about this.

      @@aquahombre I did , it's tight. The bike only has 12,900 miles and is super clean. I am going to try some Redline trans. fluid next. Thanks, though.

    Well a compensator is supposed to smooth out the pulses because the motor is stroked I mean it has a long stroke considering a lot of motors which have a short stroke. So it's literally just a gear on the end of the motor as I understand it.....

      @davedubeau9124 I'm running the Redline in transmission , now , and I think Belray in the Primary, but I think I may go with Redline in the primary next time.

    Clutch adjustment can cause the clunk.

    • @edZILLA64
      @edZILLA64  Месяц назад

      @davedubeau9124 I've checked the adjustment and it is adjusted right, but I was watching a Baker trans. video and the guy was saying to use a Dial indicator to see how far the clutch is compressed. I think he said .070 or greater is good, anything less, your clutch is not fully disengaging, so I am going to check that, you are right, also, if it is not adjusted right it can clunk through the gears. It's enough to annoy the crap out of me. One other thing he said, is if you have an easy pull clutch lever kit installed that can cause clunk. So, I reckon I will pull Derby cover and see how much clutch compresses. Thanks for your input.

    Well I swear by the red line a friend of mine that runs a borax mine in California he runs the maintenance in there he said that lasts the longest and not they almost never change it in the equipment when the equipment's done they just leave it in the mind. Mine... My neighbor is a 2017 or I tell you it clunks into gear like like an old train. Why wouldn't feel so bad if you got a clunk
