A number of years ago, I lost a very dear friend. Among her abilities was playing the recorder. Watching and listening to this, I can only speculate about her positive reaction to this video.
This is more than an excellent transcription; it's a remarkably accurate and dramatic rendition. I'm biased in favor, of both transcriptions and recorders, but I wasn't expecting music that moved me more than the original. Do the whole movement, brother! If you had a Patreon, I would contribute.
I couldn't agree more with michaelowens. These transcriptions breathe new life and interest into beautiful pieces that may have grown a little stale for many of us due to overfamiliarity with their original orchestration. These wonderful arrangements (and performances) give us an opportunity to enjoy these pieces almost as if we're hearing them for the first time. Personally, I would love to hear Mr. Young try his hand with Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony.

I assume that he listens to and plays in time to previous tracks as he lays down each part. It’s a great feat of musicianship and the arrangement of the different voices is masterful, imo.
The absence of the timpani was quite a hole in the last rendition; a very fine execution here, with a quite convincing percussive effect. And the rest of you Jameses doing fantastic as usual. Thanks for the re-edit!
Simply an idiotic statement If he wanted Timpani he would have added it , I could say the same for the effect that Beethoven wants from the Bass and Violoncello and then state " The absence of the strings was quite a hole in the last rendition The concept was " can I render Beethovens Scherzo with recorders only effective;ly ?" The virtuosity not only in execution but enormous computer work to get both audio and visuals in perfect sync demonstrates a passion and dedication that goes beyond the norm Honestly, lets see you do this!!
@@hoshumberry I appreciate that. As a recorder player myself, I recognize James' excellent professional work. And I recognize my comment could have been taken negatively about the last rendition, which was also excellent (especially since it all had to fit on one recorder!). Maybe he seriously thought about adding a transposed timpani for the one recorder version, maybe he didn't, maybe it would never have worked well. In my head, it sounds fine, but I'm just a fellow giving his opinion on RUclips, and it's James' rendition, not mine. I think they're both good performances. I appreciate what he did to challenge himself in the last rendition; I myself prefer (again, my personal opinion!) to listen the 'full orchestra' version. Cheers!
True enough BTW I find this often with the so called ' Beethoven Sonatas Quite honestly often times it sounds like he used the " piano" to work out his orchestral scores. It was only later when we get into the Waldstein period that he frees himself of this habit Cheers@@andrewulmer6027
It’s a nice adaptation, very musical, but knowing the original orchestration I can’t help but hear the booming absence of the timpani-they are just too integral. But absent that, well done!
I love the percussion adaptation made with the ultra bass flute 0:03!! Exactly the same feeling!
What a rich wooden sound, agile and on point, just beautiful.
A Masterclass in both articulation and performance practice, a true delight of arrangement and performance. 🌹
I ❤ the subtle nod to the timpani part w those tiny unvoiced tonguing taps in rhythm, genius.
Amazing! I love the timpani part. Beautiful and meticulously executed.
Thanks Joe! I appreciate it.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Transcription to recorder is the highest triumph . New meaning to the word 'recording'.
it is a recording

💪 not just some clip gimmick - what a splendid performance(s)

Excellent scherzo, and ditto, please do the trio too!

oOoOf friend that's a LOT
If he decides to do that, I volunteer to make the choir parts for the 4th movement.
What a RECORDing! But trully, even from technical point of view: panoramic the voices, reverb, and so on... And the performance. Brilliant!
I really do not understand how it is possible to record all the voices in such perfect synchronicity ?

Count...
metronome mechanical or otherwise.

Indeed he has a "making of" video
I didn’t know I needed this until I found it. Great job 👍
Excellent arrangement of the of this
movement from the 9th symphony
every recorder is clearly heard just

Brilliant!
Indeed Wonderful, very much appreciated.

WOW Dude that was great. Who ever you have do your editing of this video they did a great job. I know it not the same kind of music, but rock on !
Extra credit for an amazing accent!
Fabulous! What is your soprano? Its tone very mellow.
ottima intensità....e decisione nell'esecuzione
O Freunde, viel mehr diese Töne! 😂
Delightful. Did you write the arrangement?
Thank you! Yes I did.
Reminds me of W. Carlos's version...
It’s a nice adaptation, very musical, but knowing the original orchestration I can’t help but hear the booming absence of the timpani-they are just too integral. But absent that, well done!
This guy is the sex god.
hey it's me the day after, again listening to this marvelous arrangement by the god of sex
@@relikiem13 I laughed around two minutes at this pair of comments
Even 2 weeks later I still listen to this masterpiece like 1-2 times a day. Sexgod music never dies
Wow, how many twins/clones of you are there? You are like a Bimbo Box :)
