That would be rude. You make up some excuse for why you aren't buying it right now, but will totally come back later. You know you're lying, they know you're lying, but it's more polite, maybe.
we've got one place that's kind of like that here in Albany New York it's got a cafe above with a bike shop below, I don't think they have any of the other things though. however that shop's not convenient for me to go to. the shop that I do go to just happens to be the only one around that sells 45Nrth products, but it is kind of clique-ish. if you're not in the clique, then you're just a sale, when the attitude should be about growth of the community... bringing new people into the community. for example nobody's ever mentioned to me when they have rides or where to go to find out if they have rides although I've heard them talk about rides with other customers. not that I'm particularly interested, but that's how you grow those communities how do you know if somebody wants to unless you mention that they do it?
Given some time, I think the crews natural abilities would have come through and they would have been a pretty good team. Alex could have been in in repairs. Manon would have got the hang of the cash register and been good at sales. Ollie seems good at PR and organizing and engaging in shop-sponsored activities. Hank could be a hidden guru with coffee and yoga. All are important elements in the overall running of that particular shop.

since the rest of the team have dropped Ollie, and Ollie has in turn dropped Alberto Contador, does that mean by transfer of properties the entire team has dropped Alberto Contador?
Easy. Ollie and Alex in the back doing maintenance and building bikes. Manon, Conner and Si up front to run things. Hank at GCN Megabase so he doesn't scare off the customers.
Part of the reason i am a cyclist is the local bike shop that was about a mile from the house i grew up in. It was a place we would always feel welcome, whether we bought our bike from there or not. It was at least a weekly destination to look over the newest shiny thing but talk to the mechanics and such. It was most likely the first place i felt welcome outside of family and possibly church.
Bikes come cut from the factory, usually with 4cm of spacers at maximum. And no one should need a more than that, the problem is people who are not racers buying bikes with geometry made for racers instead of something like an endurance bike.
@@MAGAIVER Surly is one manufacturer that is good about shipping models with uncut steerer tubes upon request. Often riders need to install riser stems to get a proper fit or more upright posture, and it just seems unnecessary if a better fit could be achieved with a custom cut tube.

The bike would be a Tiagra or or 105 flat bar road bike or something. My favorite was when a different coworker told two girls shopping mountain bikes that Rockshox SID was short for Sudden Infant Death. They looked like they wanted to run out the door. They were not even in the market for a $1800 mtn bike. This guy always went straight to the XC, XTR bikes with small frame and 135mm stem and never asked the customer what they wanted.. I could tell they wanted to spend around $650. I about fell over in shock! I didn't want to make my coworker look stupid but I didn't want the ladies to be offended, not come back and talk bad about us. I got on the intercom and called him to the repair department for a customer thank you. When he came over I told him it was Superlight Integrated Design and he needed to apologize and correct that. He could say someone had played a prank on him and he didn't know. Then I said he needed to show them the 14 inch Palomar swapping an 70mm stem onto it with a gel pad saddle not the 18" Zaskar Team if he actually wanted to sale a bike. Luckily that all worked out and they left smiling and came back for accessories later.
