  • Information intended for those of us with a DX7s transmitter attempting to use a UHF system, like DragonLink. The DX7s transmitter does have a PPM out port, the trainer port, and most UHF systems require a PPM signal, making it a perfect transmitter for most UHF systems.
    sites.google.c...
I believe that you also need a PPM signal for EzUHF, Thomas Scherrer, ChainLink, Rmilec, and ChainLinkDare.
    Hope that this helps!

Thanks for your reply. I ended up hooking it up the original way, by cutting the PPM signal wires inside the TX and soldering a couple of servo connectors to them. I ran the wires through a drilled out hole in the back cover of the TX and can now either plug the two back together for my 2.4GHz signal, or into the DL for my long-range flights. Binding the DL this way worked without a hitch.

Yep, everytime through the trainer port. You don't lose any functionality of the radio. You could take off the 2.4 ghz antenna, but I leave mine on because when I want to use 2.4 ghz all I have to do is unplug the trainer port.
Its true, this setup can be a bit messy with external wires and all. Alternatively, you could open up the back of the radio and wire the DL directly to the internal components

I did a range test after this, with the dummy load on the Tx and the full range antenna on the Rx and easily made it to 60 feet - the recommended range!

That's pretty good. Looking forward to see the actual range.

Thanks for the vid I have the dx8 and have been waiting for a setup vid for the spektrum radios

I have tried this in the field. I only fly 1-1.5 miles and this works great! I get a full 60 feet away with the dummy load

Some people use the old 72mz Futaba radio but they are hard to find, thank you and I look forward to your reply as well as opinion , advice. On this subject. I am still learning as much as possible on fpv, such as filters, power busters.... But , I am not sure about things at this time , thank you PFD,

Thank you very much for the reply! I'll have to install this on my own dx8.

Thanks man!!! Very excited about it. What frequency are you running your FPV gear on? 1.3?

definitely like to see the range with this setup cuz some people say there's a low ppm signals from these transmitters.

No problem! Dragon Link uses 433 mhz and I will be using either 5.8 or 2.4 ghz for my FPV gear

Thank you very much for this video first of all. If you don't mind me asking, have you tried this setup in the field? How far away did you dare go so far?

I was concerned as to which channel on the headphone jack was used for the ppm. I imagine it was the one connected to the tip as the jack in the radio is just mono

Hi, will installing the DL remove the Model Match technology in the spektrum radio??

    Hi!
I am trying to hook up my new Dragon Link Version 2 to my Spektrum DX7 DSM transmitter using the Trainer port wiring setup you show in your video. However, I have not been able to bind the Dragon Link to the receiver (blue light on rx does not turn off to indicate successful binding). What is the process of binding the DL to the rx using the trainer port setup?
    Thx,
    Jan

I don't know. I think that it does (per RCGroups) - but I cannot verify this method

Hi PFD and thank you for the information. On the set up, let me start by asking hat receiver are you using 1.3, 900 . I know that the 7 s is a 2.4 set but , with the dragon link . It is a 5.8 set ? , I have a flysky 9 channel radio and would love to buy a dragon link set. Also, hobby wing has a 5.8 fpv 584 plug & play 5.8 ghz 400 mw that includes a camera but , I do not think that I can use this set up with the dragon link? So, if I wanted a 900mw, or a 2.3 I would be ok ?

so you dont turn the transmitter on? the plug from the dragon link turns it on. When I do this , the trim tabs do not work.... uggg

you have a link to the one you bought so i get that one for my dx8 please? using a raptor and fatshark circular polarity but im going to get a 3turn helical soon after the dragon link thanks again!

So with this setup u have to plug in the trainer port and power each time you want to use it correct? Does using it through the trainer port limit the radios functionality? (programming etc) and do you have to leave the antenna for the 2.5 ghz connected as well?
I bought the dx7s and am not very happy with this set up. It's so messy and inconvenient in my opinion.

are you still using the battery inside the dx7? are you using the external 2s lipo to power the dx7 and dragonlink tx or just the dragonlink tx? or is it removed

hi there thanks to share your set up......
I'm planing to do the same, but with another 433mhz module(dragonlink is way too expensive for me)the one i picked up is OrangeRx Open LRS 433MHz TX/RX combo from hobbyKing....I'll try to hoocked up with spektrum, cause i don't want buy a turnigy radio....still thanks

72 mhz is supposed to be great if you are flying within 1 mile.

well everithings work great, now i'm trying to have good result with programming, the first range test(in the city, trough house and building)is about 2 km with diy dipole antennas,so now I'm trying to change same code to make my own parameters on the failsafe mode....so when every things will work 100% i'll post a video....go an check this user " mrazy6" is actually make 6v out trainer port with resistor ,so maybe can u get some advantage!!!

Check my channel for a full indept how to hook this up. Use a muti meter to make sure which wire is which to lead the Tip(ppm)... 2S5000 is a lot of battery to be lugging around :) A small 1000mah well last hours.
