Yeah it looked very interesting so I was curious I made sure to look around before clicking it
I recently became a K-pop fan and discovered Big Bang last year. What I am finding incredible about them is how versatile they are. They can do any style of music rock, rap, R&B, etc. G Dragon is truly talented and I hope he comes back with new material this year like he promised. I can see where a lot of K-pop groups get a lot their inspiration from them. I get the feeling if it wasn’t for BB, K-pop wouldn’t be what it is today.

Watch their live performances. It’s EPIC. Plus they do fanmeets before their concert, that’s hilarous and awesome as well.
Whenever they performed on award shows their performances peaked the rating. A rating could go from 4% as an average to a whopping 12-22% while they performed. All of Korea would tune in just for their performance. Big bang used to have 8-10 minute shows but as they grew bigger it became an average of 22 to 36 minutes long for the biggest shows, always becoming the closers regardless if they were the oldest (edit) Seniors or not.

YES!! Bigbang! Here is an extensively long introduction and brief history of Bigbang on top of this guide you just watched:
They debuted in 2006 from YG Entertainment. They were not super successfull right from the start but with Lies in 2007 and Haru Haru in 2008 they catapulted to superstardom in South Korea. They just grew bigger with each comeback and started to get international fame too. And this was before streaming, RUclips and social media were huge like they are now.
They really like to experiment with their music, you'll never know what to expect from them.... pop-rock to EDM to old school rap and everything in between. I think that is one of the biggest reasons why they are so loved by both kpop fans and the general public. Never trust a kpop fan who doesn't know Bigbang (or the other 2nd gen legends).
They have a hand in everything regarding their music, writing and producing (GD is the one who started the whole idols doing their own music thing), they fund their consert tours 100% themselves, they design the lighting, stages, setlists, arrangements etc for conserts.
They are hugely respected in the kpop industry and they are the blueprint that other companies use to form their new groups. Labels used to bring trainees to Bigbang conserts when they were active to show them stage presence, how to engage the audience and how to perform. ”Even if Bigbang isn’t your bias, they are your bias’ bias.” They are basically five very talented and charismatic soloists and when you have them in the same group as Bigbang, magic happens.

GD (G-Dragon): Leader, Rapper, Vocals, Producer, Songwriter, born 1988 (high tone voice, very distinct and easy to regocnise voice)
TOP: Rapper, (minimal) Vocals, Producer, Songwriter, Actor, Art collector, born 1987 (deep and low voice)
Taeyang: Vocals, Producer, Songwriter, born 1988 (the smooth R&B voice)
Daesung: Vocals, Producer, Songwriter, Actor, Drummer, born 1989 (most of his solo stuff is under the name D-Lite in Japan) (Powerful, husky voice, very easy to regocnise also) (Check D'splay here on RUclips, he is totally not Daesung *wink*)
ex-member Seungri: Vocals, Producer, Songwriter, Actor, born 1990 (light pretty voice) (Left BB in 2019 due to a scandal (he was our maknae for 13 years so I'm including him here and he's in all of BB's MVs except Still Life). I wrote a different comment here on the "scandal", but all in all it was a super messy, very public and complicated witch hunt, There is A LOT of misinformation going around on this scandal and about him so when reading about this be careful of the sources of the info, I would go with official statements and not tabloids (as they are 95% wrong) to get the correct idea on what happened.)
Seungri was the core of BB and I don't think they will make an actual comeback (Still Life was only them fulfilling a promise to us VIPs) as Bigbang without him. They have become real brothers over the years and they are still as close as ever. Bigbang will always be 5. We'll have to wait and see what happens in the future. Personally, I'm hoping they will unite under their own label, make a comeback and give zero f**ks about what everybody says.
They don't really dance during their MVs and lives (like pretty much all other groups do) but they are talented dancers, especially Taeyang, GD and Seungri. When you get to know them more you will see that TOP is the greatest dancer of all!! LOL. Seungri even had a dance academy and many idols trained there, like J-Hope (BTS) and Minzy (2NE1).
BB are the kings of live performances!! They like to arrange their songs differently for pretty much every consert and live show. They have had the same live band with them since 2012. The Band Six was put together by the request of GD and they toured with BB for years until they went to hiatus for military and the band has since toured with other YG groups, mainly Blackpink. My personal favorites live are Café (MADE Tour), Haru Haru (acoustic version) and Sober (MADE Tour with Daesung on the drums). I highly recommend watching a consert, the Japan dome tour X 2014-2015 is one of the best ones and the MADE or 0to10 tours are also great ones.
But to fully grasp the impact they have had, here is a list of some things that are very normal now in kpop but what Bigbang started and changed:
- Lightsticks (GD invented the concept and designed BB's yellow crown lightstick, the bang bong)
- First fandom name: VIP
- TOP was the first underground rapper (he went by the name Tempo) turned idol (turned into a successfull actor)
- Writing their own songs and producing their own music (GD, the musical genius, but all of them write and produce). So now younger idols have the chance to make their own music thanks to GD and BB breaking the stereotype of idols.
- Different genres of music started to be more common in Kpop thanks to them (Hip Hop, EDM...) as they were exploring different genres and making variety of differend genre music.
- Combining different genres in one song became popular thanks to them. Like Bang bang bang. (They were not the first to do this but they made it popular)
- Fantastic Baby started the EDM era in Kpop.
- To have actual rappers in a group and not a group member who can't sing well enough and was trained to rap here and there. The first real rapline GD&TOP (and they actually have an album together from 2011).
- Rapper combo with higher voice and a deeper voice and at least one deep voiced rapper in a group.
- Solo carees, back in the day idols started their solo careers only after disbanding, but BB members wanted to go solo and stay in BB. And they have done it super well.. All of them have a very successful solo career.
- Every group having a maknae (youngest) position. BB has two Seunghyuns, TOP and Seungri. They used to call Seungri maknae not to confuse the two with each other and now every single group has a maknae.
- The first brand global ambassador GD with Chanel.
- International success before social media and streaming were a thing.
- First real world tour (Alive tour 2012-2013)
- First international awards
- First mini albums
- They were always themselves, goofy, weird and funny. So group members now can also be more free to who they are (and not signed to a certain role in a group)
- High fashion in kpop (mainly GD.. and TOP)
- Crazy hair colors (mainly GD again)
- The list goes on..
"YG made BIGBANG but BIGBANG made YG." - Yang Hyun Suk (YG himself, the founder of YG ent.)
YG ent is one of the "BIG 4" all thanks to BB. Many kpop fans doesn't seem to know this, but YGE was extremely poor (like going bankrupt level) and a tiny company when BB were trainees and debuted and thanks to their success (and 2NE1) they are now one of the biggest companies out there. BB was responsible for over 60% of YGEs income at one point and for some time too.
They've had scandals over the years (some real and some not) that has caused them to have a somewhat "problematic" image especially among the younger kpop fans. But in my opinion most of it is just South Korean media (and knets) hating on them (they always have) and them being grown up men just living their life in a super conservative world of kpop idols. They have never cared about the clean idol image, they smoke, party, drink and date as they wish.
What I personally love the most about them is that they really don't give a f**k about anything anymore, they just do what they like the most, and that is excellent music. With this modern era of kpop with the super conservative rules and squeky clean images it'll be fun to see BB shake things up when they finally appear in the public again with BB or solo promotions!! The world of kpop was very different when I started my kpop journey in 2010... groups were collaborating, male and female idols were collaborating and were friends in public, idols were more mature compared to todays idols (as a 36 year old, I prefer adult idols and a bit more mature group consepts), no useless scandals over every little thing and the fandoms weren't nearly as toxic as they are now, ah the golden era of kpop. I miss those days. Newer fans have no idea what they have missed out on.
I would recommend to start either from the start with La La La or go with the MADE album. All songs from that album (except If You, see the tour report for this one) has an MV. Also they all have excellent solo music with their own flare. Please check out Daesung (D-Lite) - Anymore (live Japan dome tour 2017) and TOP - Doom Dada (MV) for starters.
They are hilarious people so variety shows are a must: Happy Together, Weekly Idol, Radio Star, all the Running Man episodes with BB are golden, Run Bigbang Scout and The MADE Movie.

They had many things that they introduced in KPop that's why they are called King of KPop. I want to add:
1st group to introduced mini-albums
Taeyang 1st idol to debut w/out leaving/disbanding
GD was chased by many brands by giving him gifts.
As a fashion icon airport became a thing because of GD.
There are still many things that they did that contributed to what the KPop scene is now.

Here are some FACTS about Seungri’s ”scandal”. He was an essential part of Bigbang. It will be very different without him if they even make an actual comeback as Bigbang without Seungri, I have my doubts. The BB members became real brothers during the years and are as close as ever still.
I'm still heartbroken about what happened to him. I wish he would come back but it's not likely at least for a long time. And knowing what koreans and knetz are like... not likely. It's a long and complicated story of what happened and why he left but to summarise it was a super messy and a very public witch hunt. And anti-Seungri people, please read all the way through before hating on me in the comments. And please check the official statements if my word is not enough.
I'll just give a very general story of how it went here for you: It started in early 2019 with the Burning Sun club issues (sexual harrasment in the club, money laundring etc.) and grew up to be the worst scandal ever. All the headlines were: Seungri’s club Burning Sun has done this and that, Seungri involved in this and that. Right after the the Burning Sun issues the Jung Joon Young’s chat issue rose up and the headlines were again Seungri’s chat… He got blamed for doing ugly things that weren’t true, and yes it has been proven he WAS NOT a part of JJY’s chat case of secretly photographing girls and rape, at all. The police concluded that JJY had Seungri’s number on his phone and they had been texting about a common restaurant bisnes only. All the guilty people were sent to prison already.
Some reporters even made very ugly things up to get bigger and bigger headlines and were later sentenced to prison for that. It got very dark and ugly. It felt like an actual witch hunt to get Seungri’s head with more and more headlines every day for months all just about how horribly terrible person he is. There were public appeals made for him to commit suicide... that is not ok. He was the most loved maknae one day and the next everybody hated his guts.
The police started a full on investigation about everyhting about his life, work and businesses (he owned or co-owned clubs, restaurants etc) to find ANY sign or proof of his wrongdoings. The investigation was later transferred to the army prosecution as he was doing his military service. They even forced him and all of Bigbang members to have drug tests, all were negative (South Korea has VERY strict drug laws). They tried to dig up evidence against him for gambling (illegal for Korean citizens), arranging escort ladies for business partners in Japan etc for 3 years and got NOTHING. Early in 2022 he got 1,5 years in prison because he admitted to the charges (of gambling and arranging escorts in Japan). He will be out spring 2023.
In South Korea the conviction rate is 99% in court cases which is absurdly high. It’s practically impossible to get an innocent verdict in a court hearing. They only care about the numbers of convictions and not if the person actually did anything. In South Korea it’s more appropiate to admit guilt whether you are guilty or not, do your time and reflect on your ”wrongdoings” and you might have a chance still in the future.
So even though Seungri was adamant for the past 3 years of not addmitting guilt he's probably very tired and exhausted after all this time so it was a better option for him considering the future.
The media has never cleared his name in the older issues about him so most kpop fans and koreans still think it's all him as they used his name during the scandal: Seungri's club burning sun (in reality he owned about 5% of the club’s shares, never did any management of the club and only DJ'd there sometimes), Seungri's chat etc. Because it's Seungri, he was part of the most loved group by the general public and a very popular member, everybody even all the grandma’s knew who he is, and an international megastar. The shock value was enourmous. They got way more readers that way so the scandals, especially the chat scandal, were tied to him closely even though it never was him.
All the while the issues some of us are certain they wanted to cover with Seungri's case are totally forgotten. The SOPA scandal before and the money laundring cases that were revealed after the Burning Sun issues, both included some very important people high up in SK. I still get so mad just thinking about this whole issue and how Seungri's life and career are ruined forever. Some people are starting to belittle Seungri's effect on Kpop while he was in Bigbang because of this. The truth is his and Bigbang’s impact on kpop was huge, they changed the whole industry to what it is now, no matter what happened after.
If you are guilty you have to pay for your crimes but this very public witch hunt was way over the proportion of his crimes, which are at the level of gambling...
Sorry for the long rant. I'm just mad and heartbroken about this still.

Big Bang debuted in 2006. Their first album has some real great songs....... they are all good, singing and dancing songs. I suggest you react to "Lies" their first hit in 2007. GDragon wrote the song and it was a hit in Korea and blew everything up for them. Then "Fantastic Baby" which was MV in 2012. There last MV as a full group is "Last Dance". What you'll find is their music evolved over the years. But their vocals have always been on point. They really know how to deliver a song.
Suggestion - to react their live concert performance for any songs recommended because they are so damn hot and they have live band. So the music is different and felt up to date from music video.

Big Bang and the members have 17 years of music as a group and Soloist. The group released at least 5 albums many skits, paradies and more Each member also are musicians and can play many instruments and they write their own songs. G Dragon has over a hundred songs to his name alone. Taeyang also is a lyricist. Daesung plays Drums, TOP is his own beat box, a hip hop artist, rap and singer. His harmonica playing on one of his iconic live songs is amazing. He also acts. Their are literary hundreds of songs and music out there from them all. It would take you months to get through it all. I got in to BigBang during Haru Haru times. Just a warning....it may make you cry lol. Fantastic Baby is the song that got my husband in to kpop, but the only Fandom he's ever claimed to be a part of is VIP. Those 2 songs are great places to start with their music.

It's so funny to me how no one knows BigBang now, they're the only ones I love and know well. I'm not that big of a fan of current Kpop. It's kind of too soft and pretty much the same as american pop now. It used to be more over the top
