日本で最初の国立公園に指定された瀬戸内海を代表する景勝地の１つで、2018年5月には、鞆の浦の港町文化をテーマとしたストーリー「瀬戸の夕凪が包む　国内随一の近世港町～セピア色の港町に日常が溶け込む鞆の浦～」が日本遺産に認定。一つの地域が国の「重要伝統的建造物群保存地区」、ユネスコ「世界の記憶」と合わせて３つの評価を受けているのは、国内で鞆の浦だけです。
Tomonoura is attractive for its topography surrounded by sea and mountains, and with its old-fashioned townscape and scenery, the view from the sky is truly spectacular.
Designated as Japan's first national park, it is one of the scenic spots representing the Seto Inland Sea, and in May 2018, the story themed on Tomonoura's port town culture, "Japan's leading early modern port town enveloped in the evening calm of Seto - Tomonoura, where everyday life blends into a sepia-colored port town", was recognized as a Japan Heritage Site. Tomonoura is the only area in Japan to receive three recognitions: a national "Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings" and a UNESCO "Memory of the World" designation.
