Saw POTO last night and David bloody blew me away- his voice is everything I imagined the Phantom's to be. I was absolutely in loveeee with his portrayal! Hoping to see it again before he finished in May
First Class! Ive seen, Earl Carpenter, John Owen Jones and most recently Ben Lewis. David is easily up there with the best of them. And considering its early in his run too! Bravo Monsieur!
I have only seen Ben as the Phantom and I loved him. I wish I had seen John and Earl, I love their portrayals. I want David to be in the same league as Ben, John and Earl. I think David was brilliant as Enjolras and Javert. Only time will tell if his Phantom can match those two roles in equality of brilliance.
I saw David with Kelly and Jeremy a couple of weeks ago. That cast just blow me away! They all 3 have so much chemistry together on stage!... now i have seen Kelly! Now i must go to London and see Amy!
Saw David last Thursday with Kelly and Danny, I must say I absolutely enjoyed their performance for my first time seeing it live, however I feel that David’s final lair in this video was much more in exciting than when I saw him live. Might’ve been just because it was a matinee performance but oh well. David is amazing just the same.
I fear that David was leaning into an 'You will curse the day you did not do..." instead of "You alone can make my song take flight." I like the colour of the voice though, especially in the menacing way he approaches 'you try my patience'.
Just listened to Thaxton in Wandering Child which led me here. I was interested to hear more. If I go to see him, it will be the end of his run. He's very generic and would do well to listen to past phantoms to grasp nuances. If I saw him performing at this level, I'd feel very short changed. No erratic changes in temperament. No real sense of panic nor dispare. He remains well with in the boundaries of safety and won't be doing himself any favours for getting a longer contract. Sorry Thaxton, this is a miss for me. Watch or listen to Willetts, both Crawfords, even Karimloo and inject some adrenaline into the role, particularly in final lair.
Why should he play the final lair like Crawford or Willets or Karimloo? He does his own thing, his own interpretation of the role, and it works perfectly. It was my 66th show and the best final lair I've see so far - I hope he'll change nothing in his singing and acting when it comes to the final lair. His MOTN needs some work, though
Ben Lewis played the Lair with a perfect balance of childishness and subtlety, without the need for adrenaline, and his is the best Phantom I've ever seen. In Thaxton's defence, this is really early in his run, and he won't have the time to hone the role before Howar (who I quite dislike) comes back.
@@TheMsiaddict Why does any singer need to be "better"? They're all amazing at this level. It's all personal preference. You like baritones, that's fine. But those who enjoy David can and should. Personally, I find him mesmerizing and heartbreaking.
Notice the fuller orchestra!

Ooo I love that he sustains his breath all the way through at the end from "the music of the night" - wow.

And how about when he said "make your choice"?
Wow! Do u have the full show?
Anthony Warlow or Alexander Lewis? He sounds like either of them. And a bit of Earl Carpenter here and there.
I mostly hear Ramin in David's singing

I like the sinister voice here. His voice is quite like JOJ's. Though vocal wise, Ben Lewis's dark voice is better and stronger.

He's more Phantomesque with the dark voice.
