    Every time a player has asked if they can play gunslinger; I just tell them to play a battlemaster, we'll allow renaissance weapons, and I'm not running misfire

      Easy fix. But I like Western firearms for flavor.

      @@TheSpicyDungeoneer-qv5qh as a certain blue kobold often quotes "flavour is free". You can say on a narrative level what form the firearms take. I just stick with the renaissance firearms because they are closest in mechanic form to the PHB weapons, and so don't throw out any new power-curve issues at baseline.
      Plus I try and steer players away from punishing mechanics. I've already steered them away from the gunslinger to stick with the more user friendly battlemaster. Don't want that all to be undone because they pick the options that just make their character less reliable.
      Reload isn't as bad as misfire, but it's still an issue for tracking. Hard enough to keep people honest with how much ammunition they have in total. Keep it simple with loading; it opperates like a crossbow, get the Gunner feat and now you're ignoring the loading property. simple. done.
      Having the more powerful firearms isn't entirely off the table; they're just relegated tot he same rarity and investment as magic items of equivalent damage outputs.

      @@zhornlegacy7936 That little blue kobold makes some interesting content. I'm enjoying playing a homebrew gunslinger which I'll talk about in the next video. Yes, I took the gunner feat for my gunslinger which got rid of loading. Also, we don't track ammunition - the DM wanted firearms to track but not other ammunition and then changed their mind as long as it was not abused.

    There's a reason this is unofficial. This is just the rough conversion Critical Role used. Critical Role season one started as a Pathfinder campaign with Percy as a Gunslinger. Pathfinder gunslinger rules are much more fleshed out. For instance Firearms ignore armor bonuses. If you want ideas for Gunslinger I suggest looking at the original source material.

      Yes, I hinted at that when I mentioned medieval armor not being bulletproof. If we have to have the hyper-realism of misfire, then armor should also be less effective, which is one of the reasons why people stopped wearing it.

    • @vederianl9723
      @vederianl9723 2 месяца назад +3

      @@TheSpicyDungeoneer-qv5qh That makes sense. If bullets don't have armor penetration they shouldn't have misfire.

      @@vederianl9723 Really we need a 'bulletproof' attribute to add to armor. If the armor does not have this, its AC bonus is limited or negated.

    My opinion the guns should never explode had a player roll 4 1’s in a row. Never looked like he was having fun felt so bad

      @TheSpicyDungeoneer-qv5qh  2 месяца назад +3

      Yeah, no other class gets punished like that, so why do it to the gunslinger? It is not as if martials need to be nerfed any further.

    Honestly, the easiest fix for the Gunslinger (which is lifted wholesale from Pathfinder 1) is this:
    Battlemaster Fighter + Gunner Feat
    That's it. Having played a Gunslinger in Pathfinder, I can tell you they are BUUUUUSTED if you know how to play them and in 5e they are broken beyond repair. But with Gunner feat and Battlemaster, you get all the flavor you want in a Gunslinger with none of the rule issues.

    • @TheSpicyDungeoneer-qv5qh
      @TheSpicyDungeoneer-qv5qh  2 месяца назад +3

      You have some good points. Battlemaster does answer some of these issues. But many of the Battlemaster features are for melee only so it feels like you're only playing half the character's potential. I think it would be worth making a video about this option though.

      @@vederianl9723 This is why I think the next step in classes that can use firearms, is semi-magical. I think the Dark Tower movie did it well, with the main character being able to reload quickly due to their skill or magical ability.
