It’s cool that ABC kept most of its regular lineup intact while accommodating special programming coverage. On the date these ads aired, NBC was premiering ‘Santa Barbara’.

Well soap operas (especially General Hospital) were in their heyday back then, so there was still an incentive to fit them in. Nowadays, they'd probably get pre-empted.
