    Would you like to live in Thao Dien guys? Let me know what you think in the comments below...
    Is District 7 better than Thao Dien? Take a look at my Part 2 video here: ruclips.net/video/CI1DuBdKSBs/видео.html

    Great video, very useful information such as flooding etc to consider if one wants to move to Thảo Điền. Many Thanks!

    I've never been to district 2 even though I've stayed in HCMC countless times. Always ended up in district 1 or 3. Just recently gravitated toward district 7 mainly due to the cleaner environment there. I can see the attraction for expats of D2 but I wouldn't want to be too isolated from real Vietnam. You must turn a few heads riding an electric bike. I had a similar LED display on my electric scooter. Noticed a few locals weren't wearing the dreaded mask while riding their bikes. Have things relaxed since I was there in May?

      @expatnam  2 года назад +1

      It's fairly relaxed now although most people wore a mask, at least on their bikes, before covid anyway. When i was in Thailand the other week they seemed a lot stricter on the masks even though they had dropped the requirement to wear one in most places. It's an XL bike and i'm quite tall so i do get some looks, people seem bemused how i can cruise up the bridges so fast..!

    Thanks for the tour. What is your e-bike typical range. I see that you do pedal quite a bit too. Is your electric bill free/included where you reside. I have a 2021 Prius Prime, thankfully I have solar here at my home. Gas prices are around $6.50 usd per gallon now.

    • @expatnam
      @expatnam  2 года назад +3

      Range is good, around 40-50km if i hardly pedal at all, maybe i could get 60-70km with some more effort from me as well. I'm quite heavy at 93kg so that's a big factor on range. I'm still really impressed with it though. Electric is fairly cheap here, around 12c/kw so to charge up the bike is negligible.

    • @brucewayne2773
      @brucewayne2773 2 года назад +1

      @@expatnam That's really a good range for a home built bike from a kit. I see a lot of e bikes here in my area, 90% of them are ebikes here.

    Great video! Just found your channel and been watching your videos! Question: those 450$/mo apartments is that for long term (1year) or can you get those rates for month to month? Are these furnished? Thank you!

    • @expatnam
      @expatnam  Год назад +1

      Only long term, 6+ months. They are typically part furnished like bed, fridge etc but some are fully furnished. You tend to pay a big premium for fully furnished spots here. There's no Ikeas or the like in VN so furnishing is expensive especially western style. You can get apartments like this monthly on ABNB but again very expensive from what i've seen.

    U hit on the building of the metro line (I was in HCMC in 2017 and it looked pretty similar back then to now lol)
    You’ve also in the past mentioned that busses aren’t a true alternative. Why is that the case? Is it due to the insane traffic?

    • @expatnam
      @expatnam  2 года назад +2

      The roads aren't really set up for it yet. For example there's no bus lanes so the buses just get stuck with the rest of the traffic. Also there would need to be a big investment in stations with bike parking, and in bus stops with decent shelters due to the heat and rain.

      No matter how many skyscrapers they build and how hard they try to beautify the city, the slum mindset of the people makes Vietnam a third world slum and will continue to be a third world slum for many generations to come.

    Hi, thanks for the video. I just moved to HCMC and am planning to live in D2, but before I finalize my place want to stay in a studio or 1 bed apartment for may be 2-3 months and find a good place for long term. You mentioned about $450/ pm places to live. How do I find these places ? Can you kindly recommend some websites or apartment places. Thanks.

    • @expatnam
      @expatnam  2 года назад +2

      Hi there. Most agents/landlords tend to advertise on Facebook groups or a website called 'chotot,' at least in Saigon. Some of the agents are good in that they will negotiate on your behalf and help you with getting documents you might need etc. 450$ is ~10.5tr so you should easily be able to find a nice place for that. I still think it's a renters market here so don't be shy to negotiate...another tip would be try to deal in VND and not $.
