Incredible atmosphere and unique style for 1994, an underground cult classic. Had they recorded a full length album with this level of quality, it would surely be a classic on the level of Filosofem or Dom Sathanas.
Forgotten Woods/Joyless's last foray into Black metal before changing genres to "Depressive Rock" is another Underground cult classic. ' Unlimited Hate' has some absolutely amazing Black metal on it, not only full of atmosphere but the musicianship was way ahead of the the majority of the rest of the pack.
SlowRiffs BongRips Forgotten Woods were terrible. a pastiche. nothing original at all. christ even their guitars are out of tune on their debut album. Strid & Burzum were so far ahead of the rest it’s crazy. innovators, not followers.
Read an article about early BM gatekeeping, and this band showed up at Fleurety's home intending to beat him up and/or worse. And his dad came out in undies and chased them away. Didn't expect this beautiful BM music from this band when I read that.
God some of you are dense- think about when this came out, there wasn't such follying around 'subgenre' labels, this only barely predates some other more prominent black metal releases. Strid is black metal, that's it; it's not to say yeah there isn't mellow tones and depressive sounding atsmosphere, but it's deliberately raw and that's part of the notion of underground movements at this time period...black metal was in a very early stage of development, with the key notions of cold desolation, evil, darkness, etc being the driving forces- Strid being an evolution out of Norway capitaized on this, looked at the atmosphere around himself in the landscape and wrote music based on that feeling, not just fucking sadness and depression. Stop calling strid dsbm and start calling it what it is, Black Metal and really a gem in this time period.

It is among people who know the underground well. These guys didn’t get all the hype the other edge-lord band got because they were quiet and mysterious.
