- With 5 "traditional" Unbounds under my belt, I decided it was time to graduate to the bigger distance, the 350 mile XL!
The level of preparation for Unbound XL is above and beyond a normal event, of course. Here's a summary of my gear:
@CannondaleBicycles71 SuperSix EVO SE
@SRAM mullet set up with a 46t front and 10-50 rear. A mix of SRAM Red and Eagle.
@zippspeed Firecrest 303 wheels
@ReneHerseCycles Manastash Ridge 700x44 in Endurance Plus
Zipp Vuka Alumina clip-on extensions
Lots and lots and lots of @untappedmaple.
@velocioapparel Concept Radiator jersey + Utility Bib shorts
@moosepacks custom half frame bag with 3L water, top tube bag with snacks, saddle bag with tools, tubes, and rando equipment.
@SunGod Airas Sunglasses with 8KO Iris Photochromatic

Holy smokes King lookin' vascular!!
Holy crap I think that is the most perfect bike set up in the history of the galaxy. Enjoy it and good luck this weekend.
For 350miles? NOPE
In case you have miss calculated your hydration - that's 7 litres you are carrying not 10 👍
Good luck out there, may the wind be at your back 🚴✨✨
had to watch it twice, eyes were glued on the bicep veins the first time around
Wow, just the best, most perfect set up. I guess that would be fitting for the King!!!
Great idea on the magnets!
Very sick setup! 🤙 Good luck Ted 😎
good luck Ted. thanks for the bike review.
Awesome & Thanks :) Magnet idea was pretty sick :)
Godspeed!
Best of luck Ted!
I was signed up and was supposed to be on the start line for the XL but sustained an injury this spring and had to take some time off. I'll be following you on trackleaders. Good luck!
Complimenti!!!
Gran bel giardino!!!
Would love to see one of these for your tour divide setup. You and alex howes are madlads for doing unbound right before it.
Will do!
You look shredded! Good luck!
Great vid bro, good luck!! Love the bike, if only they were in so expensive that his homeboys could buy one
Nice video. Like the music as well.
Love it Ted.
I’m still running my 10-50, and rolling on (depending on course) my 38 full nobbies Stilacom tires.
Switching to my 44s slicks Snoqualimes when it matters.
Your an inspiration my friend.
Luck, happiness, and health Ted!
I always bring the single use chamois buttr packs. Never leave home without them 😂
🤣 when you know, you know
350!! wow!...and thanks for all the detailed comments
Interesting tire choice for the mud. Hope they clear well as my experience with RH knobbies wasn’t great in the mud.
Go get em Ted!
If you had a steel frame, you would only need one magnet. Save a few grams. 😁
😁
Cannondale doesn’t make those.
Good luck Ted 🙂
Good luck Ted 💪🏻
magnet is a good idea. you could have put the rare earth magnet type and put them inside your top tube pouch to make it stealth. also rare earth magnets are way stronger and won't actually disconnect on bumpy roads!
Sweet ride! Enjoy the XL…🍁Vermonters rooting for you🍁
Beware the magnet tapped to your frame bouncing loose in the chunk, and also chewing up your top tube. You might cut a piece of innertube to put between the magnet and frame. Beyond that, good luck!
He put tape
Doesn't matter. Cannondale owns the bike anyway and not his. Will get replaced if it gets trashed. The cannondale logo will get covered that's why he put clear tape and not black electrical tape
You look fit! Crush it out there brutha!
Nice setup! I saw you roll out before I went and started setting up my stuff and realized I had left my HR monitor at home! I hope you dogdedthe rain! Good luck!
Good luck Ted! You are loved in Emporia (and a lot of other places, I imagine).
Looking lean and strong, Ted! Best of luck!
Is cigar smoking Ted King now the equivalent of backwards hat Dylan Jawnson?
Ceegar Ted ? Ceegar King perhaps? :)
Are you coming out with a video of all the damage the bike sustained from the Unbound? Would be pretty cool to see how it was destroyed by the course. :)
Looking lean Ted, damn!!
Nice acting skills man!
46-50 granny gear. Hope the hills arent too steep!
Good luck, hope it is not too muddy.
Finally someone who rides the same bike I do… it’s been a love/hate relationship. Bike feels great but the asymmetrical bottom bracket has been the bane of my existence 😔
I’m looking at getting this as a frameset. What is it about the BB that’s been the bane of your existence?
You need to get moose packs to sew that magnet into the top tube pack
Wish Velocio would make a skin suit!
if you can't go fast go long ;)
hey Ted Seems like Mud is always some kind of factor in this race.... Have you thought about using Bicycle Armor? I use it for my cyclocross season... Works great
Nice bike greetz from ger
Thank God's you don't need math skills for the race: 2+3+2...
what's that 10 liters 🤣🤣🤣
Hope the ride went well for you Ted! I was interested in the one part you did not mention: what saddle are you riding? I suspect the Specialized Power!? Its tough to find a saddle that supports our behinds but gives max space for our legs to move freely at the same time...... All the best Ted, Gerlach Sven
looks like a fizik tempo argo r1
The Varia does let you know when a cyclist is coming up behind you. Better yet, it will let you know when a dog is chasing you. That’s extremely helpful.
I was gonna say, my varias don't care what it is, just that it's behind me and closing the gap.
I guess ears are out of fashion just like rims
So you’re saying you can hear a car when you’re riding into a 20 mile an hour headwind?
Bc 1x is the future, and the future is now
1x on roadbikes or even gravel bikes are for idiots who have a hard time between 2 gears.
looks like he DNF'd! Kept any eye on his progress through the night and he was pretty much top 10 with only a few mile gap to the leader! About 4 hours ago his tracker put ihim off course stopped for a few hours before being flagged as withdrawn! Watched him win the 200 here a few times!! He remains my favorite ex-pro tour pro for these events!
Bummer
Bummer indeed. 350 miles is hard for me to even imagine and SO many things can go wrong
RUclipsr brain got the best of him
Magnets reminds me of Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad... "yeah b^tch, magnets!"
I thought that aero bars were not allowed for the XL race.
Aerobars are allowed for the XL race, but not the 100 & 200 Pro/Elite categories
About to buy Manastash Ridge. Currently have Silca sealant. What sealant you recommend?
Which saddle did you choose?
Nice setup! what pressure do you run the tires at for such event?
Hey Ted, where can us non-pros purchase the white labeled Zipp Firecrest 303 wheels? They look great.
Great setup, What is the 3L bladder brand?
How come you aren’t mixing it up with the Pro’s? XL is for the plodders. No Ted!
What’s that saddle bag tho?
DIRTY KANZA!!!
and the carbone can handle this weight?
good luck- what mount are you using to hold the flashlight? thanks
Love Dirty Kanza
;)
Unbound *
@@Juan_More_Mile No it was dirty. You see the mud? A very Dirty Kanza
@1:47 hahaha
Fenix pd36r is not suitable for road bike imo. Especially smooth reflector is not for bikes, Orange peel reflector would be better.
agreed!
What’s your mount setup for the phoenix light?
drop the PSI details
how many days did you take off before the race day?
Hi, Nice bike. I am 6’. Is 58 sise correct to me? Thanks
Should be a good choice, yes.
Specialized saddle?
That’s a Fizik Tempo Argo
that bike is not a supersix evo se, its a superX
Maybe look it up? 100% a supersix Evo se, which with a more cx spec has replaced the super x
Over 20 pounds of water sounds silly--- hard to imagine carrying that much weight outweighs stopping for water at the 75 mile point - 20 fucking pounds of water !!!!!!
It's Kansas...better to have the water and not need it than to need it and not have it. LOL
@@karlr6810 bro , stop the 🧢- I’m no mathematician nor physicist but it’s hard to believe carrying 22 lbs for 150 miles is faster then stoping for literally 2 mins to reload water at the 75 mile marker - Im here for the R&D of it I’m just saying scared money don’t make money -

identification is the root of our suffering ••
Agreed
Man those bags are ugly af on that bike setup
Maybe if Ted had a macaw on his shoulder they wouldn't look out of place.
Man, those are some ugly bags!
The weight freak in me did a double take on the magnet solution! YIKES!🤯🤣
Keep in mind this guy is sponsored and is no different from pro tour riders. He's a walking advertisement and his "setup" is picked by the sponsors and not really him
He went with a 1x because the sponsors said he should ride a 1x. Sram crankset with quarq powermeter which is also owned by sram. Come on man atleast be honest. Sram is hardcore promoting 1x both for road and gravel. Because less materials but more $$$ margins
Entirely incorrect. SRAM asked me what I would like to run. Given that Kansas mud is like peanut butter, I decided an Eagle MTB and not clogging a front derailleur would be a wiser choice. I have a huge variety of options from my sponsors.
