Thanks for making this video so this history is not forgotten. The courage and determination of these people, and many more, is remarkable. We need this loyalty today.
Such a fantastic informative presentation. Thank you very much for posting this video. I am currently buying a Type 3 Mk.II (B2) radio. Unfortunately it is missing many parts, but still it is such an important WWII historical artifact. With your knowledge, you should host a WWII SOE tour in France. 🙂
I made my first CW contact as a novice KN4VUD a crystal control ham transmitter kit-- 90 watts but had the 75 Watt output for novices marked on the meter, which i strictly obeyed. My receiver was a halicrafter S-38b which after Christmas graduated to an SX99. I'm really wanted an SX100. A couple of Christmases later I got a Johnson Viking Valiant kit and assemble that in a marked 100 hours. I was K4V U D on AM 250 watts with 3 6146s and two in push pull audio! Wires outside. At the beginning of the Drake's release I defeated drifting with a new TR3 transceiver.
DeGaulle was a massive possible security risk to the Allies during WW2. The helpful part was that he was almost totally fixated on "conquering France politically" post Vichy, post WW2. SOE was "more in the moment" during WW2 especially post Hitler's attack on the USSR which brought in many more skilled in secrecy French communists. Up to that point, ex French army vets, big city patriotic street criminals, and rural haters of their Vichyite masters were more their stock in trade. DeGaulle also banned all known or suspected former SOE operatives from government jobs as security risks after the war, when he was finally running the place. The former Gestapo HQ in Paris was his postwar gift to the Candian government for their new embassy. lol
Thanks for an excellent presentation. By the way, Netflix has a 5 part series called Churchill's Secret Agents : The New Recruits. They take 16 people and put them through SOE training. I thought it was pretty good.
I am 59 years old and find this OMG so enlightening a history lesson indeed. Thank you !
One of the best film - SOE W/T History ! Super quality and knowledge !
@40:48 "Outside the box"
Outstanding commerative to wireless resistance fighters. Interesting how many conscientious objectors worked in this way.
