0:27 - Shouldn't Fisher Random be a category on a higher classification hierarchy? I mean Classical, Rapid and Blitz would be sub-categories for "Standard" and "Chess9LX" categories. So there would actually be 6 categories.
its pretty simple system. You were correct @GothamChess win - 2 points, draw - 1. So Nodirbek has 7 points. you get 3.5 if you give win - 1 p., draw - 0.5p (just how they calc regularly I guess). Chess24 did the same mistake and show wrong scores. What you do is just * 2 the score. hikaru 3p * 2 = 6 points
I love the idea of this format, and man, Fischer must have loved this. I've always heard he hated what computers did to the game so, to take everyone's standard prep away and get back to the 'pure' chess skills of live evaluation and tactics.. I'm sure it makes him happy to see it played. Very exciting chess xD
Format : Players play 2 mini matches each carrying 2 points against every player in their group. Which makes it 12 points in total. Hikaru wins 1.5 : 0.5 aginst both players. So he gets full 4 points in 2 mini matches. Nodirbek wins 2:1 and 1.5 : 0.5. So, he also gets 4 points.
Levy, I'm not great at chess, but every day I watch you... the depression I'm afflicted with is lifting. Thanks man. It's an absolute joy to watch your videos, mate.
They play 2 games and the points are handed out after both are completed. So the points aren't per game but per game pair. So it's not about winning as many games as possible but rather just beating the opponent over 2 games to get maximum points. This was mentioned on Hikaru's stream which he Krusch and another WGM run.
@gothamchess watching this video made me think, what if after a ton of computer testing they were able to discover an arragement of pieces that made the game nearly 100% balanced white or black. could there be a possibility of this ever being adopted and fostering a new era of openings, strategies, and such?
no matter how you arrange the pieces, if there's no random chance involved, the game is either a forced draw or forced win. it is theoretically solvable in the same way as tic tac toe.
As someone else pointed out: the standard starting position is already 100% equal theoretically since it's probably a forced draw. With symmetry white will always have a practical advantage though
Allow me to assist anyone still confused about castling in 960/FischerRandom. (I'm not ashamed to say it took me a while to get it too when I first started playing this variant). The key idea: imagine the King, Queen, and both Rooks were on their usual starting squares. That is, "Queen goes on her color", Rooks at the end, King next to the Queen in the middle. In 960, regardless of how the pieces are shuffled on the back row, the castling King and its "Rook partner" move to the same squares they would move to in regular chess. That's the key. Hence, even though the King and Rooks may start off in unfamiliar positions, you should imagine them being on their usual squares when preparing to castle. That way you can maintain the beginner's description of castling: "King goes two squares towards the Rook, then the Rook goes on the other side of the King."
For the points thing at the end There are game point and match point a pair of games between two players is called a match (1 white 1 black) Winning a match (1 win 1 draw or 2 wins) is 2 match point Drawing a match (1 win 1 lose or 2 draws) is 1 match point Losing a match (1 lose 1 draw or 2 loses) is 0 match point game point is also tallied, like in a normal game. 1 for win, 1/2 for draw, 0 for lose Match point is the most important, game point is for tiebreaker Levy just said the game point, not the match point
