That 'useles' chunk of styrofoam is essential during transit. It stops the subplatter from falling out if inverted, keeps the glass platter from crashing down if it get dropped (can't rely on the sticky tape to hold it) as well as holding the counterwieght to prevent shock damage to the arm bearings during transit.
Yes, it is expensive, especially with the moving coil cartridge. Their new ND moving magnets are cheaper and sound almost as good as good as the MC. Also, most stores will let you trade in your former turntable, so over time you can acquire the P6, which I own. Rega's units have a lifetime guarantee. I couldn't be happier with the sonority and quality of this table. Go Rega!
Hello to Mr.Turntable Guy love your channel and I agree with you Rega does not impress me at all always thought they charged too much for a simple piece of wood aluminum and what ever tonearm is very nice looking I will say but for a manual its not for me I am old school I have several Dual TT's ,garrards aBSR, and a pro-ject debut 3 which I did not pay a lot for less than 200.00 its supposed to have high tech bearings and soforth I got it on a wim nice wood base very light weight some records will skipp on this TT compaired to my older ones which are built like tanks these willnot skip on the same record as my debut sometimes does must be that high tech tonearm bearings it has but it is part of my collection good vid JRo
Up until recently I owned a Rega Planar 2 turntable I found it to be okay for the money but swapping cartridges was a bit of a pain and the potential of damaging the headshelll wires put me off hanging on to that turntable. I decided to buy a Project debut S phono turntable as I could swap cartridges more easily when I wanted to. I found that the Project turntable seemed to out perform the Rega turntable in terms of speed stability and the S shaped tonearm is just as good as the tonearm on the Planar 2. I can't afford a new Technics turntable but I am happy with my Project turntable especially after installing an Ortofon Concorde Music blue phono cartridge. It sounds fantastic
I prefer the old heavy wooden turntables from the 70ies and 80ies like JVC/Victor, Kenwood/Trio, Micro Seiki etc. Would never ever spend this amount of money for a Rega Planar 6.
After watching your video on installing the MC cartridge on the Rega 6 I wonder why you purchased it? All you did was complain about the weight and how you prefer vintage heavyweight tables Maybe you could have listened to the Rega before criticizing it There’s a reason why it’s lightweight and mine sounds wonderful and always gets compliments from people who hear it
I like your videos, and watch regularly, and I like the topic in this video. But I was very surprised when you wrapped the needle protection cover on with 3 inches of tape. Please don't let it go back like that, figure out something cleaner, please.
I work on turntables daily and $3000 could buy 15 Dual 1219s. 2 brand new SL-1200s. Lenco L75 sell for 300. I will say that this table is a pile of shit. Nice cartridge though
It is far from a pile of shit. And unless you’ve listened to it… I’ve been a Rega user for 40 years on and off. I admit I like the originals but I’m also sure the latest are great tables. But I use a vintage Thorens and have a vintage Michell along with an original Planar 2. Technics…I hate the look but have no doubt they sound really good. As does a looked after Lenco. And Duals seem to last forever with a little care.
I'm sure there's quite a mark up in North America. Same problem for me in UK/Europe for US/Canadian gear. But if you can pick up a 2nd hand Rega...not that I've checked prices lately. I've seen used RP8's over here for far less than a new P6 costs over there.
I know Regas can be poor VFM outside of the UK and Europe, but the engineering is sound. The prejudice in this video does come through very strong, and that's a pity as it devalues the otherwise professional approach seen elsewhere on this channel.
That’s why I like this channel, getting both biased and unbiased feedback from the presenter who has worked on a lot of different units. Any new tt that’s priced this much better be exceptional with build and sound quality. Imo the build part doesn’t equate to $$$. Generally good quality audio equipment = solid/heavy build.
That particular Rega turntable here in the UK starts at about £1100 which is expensive. I used to own the Planar 2 which isn't too bad I suppose. I replaced it for a Project debut S phono turntable which in terms of speed accuracy outperforms the Rega. My Project turntable on testing was dead on 33.3 rpm with better than specified wow and flutter figures. I know Technics is the Holy grail standard for a lot of people but they are beyond my budget at the moment. @@raymiehershey1430

If you really watched the video, you'd know that this is not my turntable, but a customer's table. My opinion stands.

The original came with that tape on it out of the factory.

@@kevinbrock7223that table is worth maybe $600....insane to spend anywhere near 3K for that setup.

@@mhagain I get the wall wart thing so they can sell it to any country easily. I see nothing there worth that kind of money. Even half that price.
