- How do I study at Rice University? How should you study in a college environment? Well, taking notes the right way can be extremely helpful when learning. This is how I take notes to most effectively remember and retain the information that I learn at Rice University. If you want to take better notes, here are a few things that I make sure to follow both during high school and at Rice to help me absorb course material faster.
Thanks so much for watching and if you have any questions then feel free to ask in the comments below!

To be clear, this isn't about how to structure your notes! This is more of a process to help learn better!
I met you at the RMC on the first day back and I was super excited to see the Gerald Wang but I think you were startled by me.
haha, sorry if I made it seem that way, but I really appreciate people who take the time to say hi!
thanks so much! this was really helpful
thanks!!
Thanks a lot, your videos give useful advice and tips.
Thanks so much!
Great video! Do you keep your original notes or throw them away after you have rewritten/summarize them? Thanks!
Thanks! Usually I just keep it there as scratch paper but on occasion (like if I ripped out a piece of paper from my notebook) I throw them away.
Good video!
Thank you!
keep up the great work gerald
aww thanks michelle!
this is such a good idea
Thank you!!
Hey, Gerald, could you give me some insight on how the race/class interaction is at Rice? I keep seeing this statistic, so I'd thought I'd ask about it. I'm assuming it has to do with the residential college system, and how you're randomly placed in each one. What do you have to say about this subject? Also, what do you like about the residential college system, and what do you not like?
Yea ofc! I think the race/class interaction is mainly from the residential college system (like you said) because it allows and encourages students from all aspects of life to interact with each other. I wouldn't focus too much on that statistic however and, instead, just know that in general people here are very nice and open to meeting new people! As for what I like, the biggest thing would probably be the fact that you get an automatic support system and an easy way to make friends in college. Some things I dislike would be how some colleges' dorms are not as good as others (take hanszen vs. duncan) which can be unfortunate for some people. The system also kind of isolates students across colleges (like it's harder to meet people outside of your college). But overall, I really do like the residential college system!
How reliable would it be to take electronic notes? For example, basically what you do but with a tablet.
Electronic notes are definitely fine as long as you keep in mind the process of taking them (people like to go on autopilot and just transcribe the teacher sometimes when taking electronic notes). I also sometimes take online notes since there are classes that simply have a lot of information that's just tiring to write down.
Hi Gerald , I am applying to rice and i wanted to ask if i take the dec 7 sat will i be too late?
It looks like they will take the sat if you take it on dec/7. Just be careful since that's the last one they'll take:

Thanks for your reply . I have been using your tips for college applications . They are coming in handy.
@@ligandroyumnam5546 that's great to hear!
Hello, Gerald! I'm currently a junior in high school who is looking to apply to Rice in the future. I currently don't meet the requirements to join my local NHS chapter and will not be able to join this year. Were you in NHS and do you believe that it will be a lot harder to get into Rice without being a member of it?
Hey Kelvin! Yea, I was in NHS when I was in hs, but it definitely won't be a lot harder to get into rice without being a member. Rice is looking for leadership capabilities and people making a meaningful impact in their community. Just being a member of nhs doesn't really show that and a lot of schools vary in difficulty when it comes to actually joining their chapter of nhs. Rice knows this so unless you're president of nhs or something then it really doesn't affect you too much.
@@GeraldWang Thank you so much for the response. This really makes me feel a lot better. :D
