I was three years old when this song came out during the 1996 Olympics. I never knew how meaningful it was until I got a little older. The lyrics to this song are basically saying that you can achieve greatness in your life if you really follow your dreams and do them with your whole heart and soul.
I competed in a semifinals of tennis tournament in which I was a clear underdog. For some reason, I couldn't remove this song from my ears while I was playing! I kept hearing the song, in my mind of course, while I was hitting, serving, running, and walking between points! My performance was sublime and I won. Such thing has never happened to me again.
I come back to this regularly as this is the graduation song of the DWE class of 2008 (HK). I am one of this batch of graduates of ~150, and most of us were only 4-6 years old as we all sang this together on the stage of Citywalk in Tsuen Wan. I always play this in my mind when I face a tough programming assignment, and always managed to get it done.
This is my go to song. This reminds me of the goals and why I started, encourages me to keep going to keep pushing. My college graduation song in 2012, and 2023 am still here ❤😊❤
