I worked for Louis & Keely in the late 50's when they were in the lounge at the Sahara Hotel. At the time I thought they were the greatest act in Las Vegas and I still feel that
way. The two of them could have not have been any nicer. It broke my heart when I left because I was so proud to be working with them. Their manager, Barbara Belle, came
to me with a TWO part ultimatum. I told her at the time I was taking the THIRD part and I quit. It bothers me to this day because I don't think Keely ever knew the real reason I left so suddenly. Just being able to get this out really helps. I really wish
Keely all the luck in the world because she deserves it. I think it is very hard to be in
that business most of your life and remain a personable and likeable person. By the
way, although it hurt at the time, I've had a VERY successful and happy life. I truly
hope Keely remains having the same.

@Help I’d love to hear more of your stories! Huge Louis & Keely fan! She’s my favorite female artist and together with Louis my favorite duo. Ironic how she almost married Frank, my favorite and best crooner ever. Wish I had seen them perform.

Emotional - I miss her and the times I spent enjoying that angelic voice - I challenge anyone to find a female artist - then or now - with such purity and clarity of sound. The only reason she may not have been on the front page of all magazines all the time - she was a wife, a mother and an artist. A bit of a full schedule - kept her priorities in order, on her terms. I respect this and I am not discrediting other women that place more emphasis on their careers - I am saying it is difficult to be a success at all three plus
Best wishes to whomever put this together - I know it is pre-edit footage - but, nicely done!!!

      Hello Beth, asked and answered...
the interview was used in our triple Emmy nommed (1 win) Biography of the Rat Pack- we cannot upload it due to contract obligations, but someone else has uploaded the Parts 2 to 4. Here's a link:

thatpat1 Karen Carpenter was truly magnificent- Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss know talent! But I would put Keely in the same league as the greatest of the great big band Jazz vocalists- Sarah Vaughan, Doris Day, Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O'Day, Helen Merrill, Monica Lewis, Eydie Gorme... I think that she and June Christy have very similar voices- do you think so too? Here's a clip:

thatpat1 I have had really great vocal artists - and talent with their voice and keen "perfect pitch" heating - familiar with Karen's work and Keely (recorded and live) - and in reference to the comment below - yours - granted these artists worked big band venues and the era (except Karen), but their ranges-styles-clarity and interpretation are different - (I would recognize Karen - "KEELEY" - Ella - Billie Holiday - and a few more - in a class of their own - and as solo artists - I happen to favor Keeley over all - and I really like Ella! Eydie had a similar sound and range as Keeley - but she didn't have as pure of sound and clarity nor the strength and stamina of Keeley. And I must have geard Kelley live 50 plys tumes - Eyde several tines.
They all just amaze me with their consumate abilities - then it is almost a listner preference.
Enjoy! I never get enough - vouce of an Angel - Keeley.
      Thanks -

I was at the Dessert Inn the week of Sinatra's Celebration of his 77th Birthday. That would make an excellent bio piece.
There was quite a bit of footage shot that week. Professional footage by at least 4 sources. This was prior to the time Keely agreed to return and work w Sam (and when I reference Sam, I mean Sam Buterra)
Nearly every living star from the 1940's and early 50's was there - on I believe it was Friday - maybe Saturday night.
Mr Burton Cohen, God rest his soul, held nothing back - there were slot machines w Franks picture on them 777's and chips and champaign/cake - an entire week of promotional work and the place was packed with first class players, gamblers, and whales. The ladies were stunning - gowns and accessories, class and charm.
It was what is referred to as, "Old Vegas". As long as he lived and came in to town to work - it was Old Vegas - and the locals came to the strip to see his show and/or enjoy the ambience of the casino.
Yes, he did get a cut of the casino and yes after the show, dinner in Ho Won and cocktails as the Sports Book Bar - then 3 tables put together to hold everyone, that were his friends and guests in the lounge - Barbara and"Company" were sent on to his suite and Frank enjoyed life.
A charming and quick whitted star - and I first met him - my husband introduced me - I was 33 - he was just about to turn 77 and he looked like he was in his late 50's and made me laugh and feel comfortable - treated women as ladies. Period - I had an obviously memorable time - and no I was not a singer or in the business - or in the Vegas professipnal casino employment. Just a regular corporate executive, who happened to be married, at that time, to a very talented singer - managed by his people - Jilly first, then Tony O.
Good as they get these folks. Absolute real and caring and boy can Tony O cook!!! Ha!!!
Thanks for my opportunity for memories and hope you put together another. One of Keely and one of Mr. S..
    Hope my sharing is ok!?!
...and as Sam B use to say, at the end of each of his shows, "It's nice to be important - but it's more important to be nice!" Goodnight!

Actually I think Keely is being very modest at end of interview when she stated that she was never a leading lady in a movie. Wasn't she Robert Mitchum's love interest in Thunder Road? In which by the way; she was very sultry and well suited to RM. As Bob directed produced and starred (wrote and sang theme song) in this movie along with eldest son James who played his Dad's kid brother; he specifically asked Keely to play her role as his girlfriend.

    What's all this frank shit?
    People tell people tell people...
    It's ridiculous.
    Frank was who he was.
This whole thing is very disrespectful.
    1957: Oscar.
    58: Reprise.
    60-62 Kennedy.
63-65 How would you feel when your dream goes away.
65-67. Holding on... He was afraid of his mother dying and father dying and created a new thing. Elvis was was only second to Sinatra.
