Yes they certainly gave us plenty of sport it was an enjoyable day out glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks again for watching it’s really appreciated cheers ian
What a great day you both had! A fine start to the season. I wish I had more time to go trout fishing but the salmon take up most of my time, but your video has inspired me to get out on Kielder Water this season. All the best to you both.
Cheers Mate!!! Hope you’re doing well!! I used to fish kielder with Dad when I was a teenager many years ago!!! Off to Chesil next week for first serious trip of the season!!! All the best! Cheers ian
Well done guys, fantastic day, great upload, I have been doing more fly fishing, than sea last 3 years. Beautiful day.thanks for posting. Kind regards Mike. Norfolk. Tight lines.
Hi Mike lovely to hear from you again! We have never fly fished Norfolk way before though I spent a few holidays as a child on the broads!! Do you ever fly fish for the pike there??? I have had some lovely pike on the fly from Chew in the last few years up to 19lb you can get a catch and release boat ticket there and fish for trout and pike on the same day which is great fun!!! As always thanks for watching cheers ian
Hi Danny yes we have always enjoyed it too it makes a nice change occasionally!! I’ve never hooked a good bass on the fly although I have tried on occasions…. We have caught mackerel on Chesil on the fly rod and they are very sporting!!! Take care mate thanks for watching cheers ian
Cracking days sport on Blagdon Guys, used to do quite a bit of fly fishing for trout myself been a few years from I wet a fly line, really enjoyed the video guys ... Cheers Ian take care 👍🎣🎣
Hi Stephen so glad you enjoyed the video and that it brought back some memories!! We both like a few days a year fly fishing but it will never have quite the same appeal as sea angling!! Thanks as always for watching cheers ian
Awesome days fishing, what a fight they put up, I used to do a fair bit of fly fishing, we had a lake and it was stocked with 1 1/2 pound fish, or so they said, never caught anything over a pound, sometimes on the same day as stocking, love a bit a fly fishing, but it's getting much harder to tie them on, specially anything below size 18, thanks for the upload.
Hi so glad you enjoyed the video they really do give a great fight on light tackle for sure!!! We enjoy fly fishing too but I think I still prefer sea fishing overall…. Lovely to hear from you cheers ian
Great vid as always Ian bud, makes me want to dust the old fly rod out, think i might need new line on the real's thou lol, stay safe see you on the rocks
Ha ha you should have seen the state of the fly line Chris had!!! It looked like old rope!😂😂😂 Plus the mice in his shed had destroyed his landing net!! Still it made a nice change but back to what we enjoy most for the next trip!!! Thanks as always for watching cheers ian
Ha ha it’s an Orvis rod….. just a few years old now!!! Don’t get to fly fish as often as I used to these days ! If you think my gear is old then Chris’s tackle is positively prehistoric…… one up from split cane!😂😂😂 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment much appreciated cheers ian
@@ianclarkfishing That is a coincidence Ian as one of my boat partners has a rod which I helped him avoid wife detection to aquire and I nicknamed it ''the staff of Moses''.It too is an Orvis....There is a video of him fishing with it from a boat on Chew Valley catching some lovely brown trout in Herons Green back when Tony Donnelly was on the team so at least 10years ago
I will try and find that video!!! Herons Green my personal favourite part of Chew ….. bank fishing in the spring and the little bay to the side of the road dam can hold a lot of resident fish!! 👍🎣
A great day’s Ian and Chris, but catching that many must be hard on the wrists. Glad to see you using different flies at different depths and not just fishing on the bottom with boobies. Roll on Chesil. Stay safe and tight lines. Mike
Hi Mike yes we like fishing small flies size 14 or 16 three on the cast and floating line only! Always good fun but lacks the unexpected you get sea fishing I guess!! Thanks as always for watching its always appreciated cheers ian
Hi Kevin yes not catching much up the BC at the moment got Chesil trip planned soon!!! Trout fishing always fun we try to do it a few times a year but we prefer the sea fishing if I’m honest!!! And no my rod only about ten years old 😂😂😂😂 cheers ian
Great video Ian.. I always start my season with a bank session on Blagdon and it is going to be Wednesday 29 March. Were the fish deep and what lines were you using? Thanks.
Hi Bob thanks for watching!! Sorry for oversight I should have mentioned tactics 🙄 Chris and i almost exclusively fish floating lines as we did on this video about a 14 foot leader 3 flies 8 lb copolymer. Most fish took black or brown size. 12 and 14 buzzers or daiwl bachs . They weren’t too deep as was hatched of buzzers most of the day. Other boats were fishing hiD lines and boobies and catching too. Glad you enjoyed the video good luck on the 29th cheers ian
Hi mark thanks for watching!! Sorry an oversight I should have said used size 12 and 14 buzzers and daiwl bachs on floating line 14 foot leader 3 flies. Slow retrieve or static drifted on the wind. Thanks for taking the time to comment much appreciated cheers ian
Hi Gully it was £110 for the day you can keep 8 fish each if you want to take them home and are lucky enough to catch them!!! Boats go out from about 8 am until just before sunset. Obviously in summer that means you can fish until about 10pm if you want!! £55 each for a whole day out …. Thanks for watching I hope you enjoyed the video cheers ian
Hi Keith yes Chris took it off momentarily to change his top but I guess it was an oversight!! Thanks for bringing that up … boat safety is definitely paramount! Hope you enjoyed the video otherwise thanks for watching cheers ian
Hi Martin yes this has been mentioned in a previous comment…. Chris realises that he made an error in taking it off!! Glad you enjoyed the video thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment cheers ian
It’s a truly beautiful lake I particularly like the top end and also right into the bay in Butcombe! Glad you enjoyed your visit I’m going with my 93 year old dad later this year!! Cheers ian

I don't think you are being picky! Basic, fundamental boat safety!
🎣👍
How much was it to fish and hire the boat?
Hi Gully it was £110 for the day you can keep 8 fish each if you want to take them home and are lucky enough to catch them!!! Boats go out from about 8 am until just before sunset. Obviously in summer that means you can fish until about 10pm if you want!! £55 each for a whole day out …. Thanks for watching I hope you enjoyed the video cheers ian
Not being picky but the lifejacket sat in the bottom of the boat sends the wrong message to new and potential boat anglers.
Hi Keith yes Chris took it off momentarily to change his top but I guess it was an oversight!! Thanks for bringing that up … boat safety is definitely paramount! Hope you enjoyed the video otherwise thanks for watching cheers ian
Lovely fishing trip but why would you take off your life jacket you can drown like the rest of us!!! Wear your life jacket 😮😮😮
Hi Martin yes this has been mentioned in a previous comment…. Chris realises that he made an error in taking it off!! Glad you enjoyed the video thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment cheers ian
