I love this as it was unintentional but makes sense as bass lines are made from the same building blocks. So there are going to be similarities. 👍

I think the British are good music teachers. Literally they make you understand the concepts.

This was really useful... liked the idea of playing the major in a different shape plus reference to theory. Ace. R

As always great video, sure you have done many but any chance of a in depth pentatonic video. All positions and extensions etc

Check out his videos, I'm sure you'll find a few of his videos on the pentatonic scale. You can search his channel to make it easier. Hope this helps :)

Thanks Matt. I do actually have one on the minor and one on the major with all the shapes and a backing track to practice to. Search on my channel or website. Cheers.

Great video, I was wondering I do understand some basic music theory. I would love to learn it, understand it and use it in the right steps. My problem is that I over think music theory so I tend make it hard on myself. So here my question. Is there a online course or master course where I can learn music theory in the right steps ( instead of jumping all around theory itself) so it makes sense. Please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Tony. Well since you ask, I'm putting one together that I think it's going to be VERY useful. My best advice is to sign up to my newsletter on my website (and get a free ebook and weekly free lessons in the process) and I'll keep you up to date with it. Learning theory properly is so great for your ear and musicality!

Awesome lesson. I have kinda the same problem except with my guitarist, it's soloing.
Often times he'll construct a solo without thinking about what's going on beneath. It seems like he's more into popping off the crazy pattern of notes he's constructed than even what key it's in or how any of that effects the songs' flow and overall sound.
We're a one guitar band and I have some freedom but sometimes it's frustrating cuz I feel like he doesn't actually KNOW what key he's playing in and it's my fault that HIS solo doesn't sound right.
I don't know what to do other than fake a hand cramp for 2minutes and move on to another song.
You ever find yourself in a situation like this?
It's only one or 2songs this happens on but he's dead set on keeping his solos as they are and performing the songs as they are live. And I'm not quitting over something like that.
    Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks for the lessons and peace to you n yours.

Luckily I play with good guitarists! Maybe subtly get in a conversation about how you're learning some music theory that helps you find the key and improvise and see whether he gets the hint?? It's a tricky one as some people get offended and don't really want to improve!

Thank you, that's a good idea.
The dude really is good and he could do better on either song.
I just think he's being stubborn.
      Thanks again.

Sounds like your guitarist is going off on one but playing his favourite licks and scales in certain spots of the neck without transposing them to fit into the key of the song you're playing!

Dan I have a 🙋🏽‍♂️? Why are seconds and Thirds never taught in a lesson?

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  3 года назад +2

I've taught them many times including in this lesson (3rds anyway). A 3rd is in a triad and arprggio and helps define the quality of the chord (for example, major or minor). So those ones are used a lot.
