    As much wood that you get to play with. You may consider getting a Logrite Log Arch. You'll conserve the forest skid trail, not get dirt in the log which will save your chain. So it will save time and ware and tare on your equipment. Not being critical, just trying to be helpful. Thanks keep up the good work. Fetching Arch is one I'd recommend. It's a mid-range log arch.

    This is the first time I've seen a splitter with this type of arrangement. Do others brands have this sort of set-up or is it just on the Eastonmade? When the rounds are like the ones you are processing here it worked really well.

    Just started a home based firewood business/hobby. I have access to many acres of Eucalyptus for many years to come. Wish I could afford that Eastonmade, so nice. Purchased a Ruggedmade 37 ton to get started. Question. What type chainsaw and chain would you recommend. I have been running my Echo stuff for ever, but even my Echo cs-680 can be a struggle on larger dia logs. Thanks.

    • @HometownAcres
      @HometownAcres  4 года назад +3

      That is a loaded question for sure. It’s all personal preference. I’ve only ever run Husqvarna and I have never had a problem. Some people are preferential towards Stihl. I honestly don’t have anything bad to say about Stihl it’s just that my first saw was a Husqvarna and that’s what I’ve continued to use. I also know some people who really like the Echo saws. They seem to be good quality and a little bit cheaper than husqvarna and Stihl. I would think if you have an echo cs-680 that should be plenty of saw for cutting firewood. I think what’s more important is figuring out how to sharpen a chain properly and making sure your depth gauges are filed low enough. I usually knock my depth gauges down quite a bit so the saw will eat wood

    • @stfuliberal
      @stfuliberal 4 года назад +2

    • @HometownAcres
      @HometownAcres  4 года назад

      It is an awesome machine. You won’t be disappointed with it if you get one. The 4 way and 6 way wedge are better for making bigger hunks for heating with wood. The box wedge is better for splitting wood smaller

  • @TractorTech
    @TractorTech 4 года назад +2

    I feel sorry for the mailman that had to deliver those heavy packages. Do you think you will go back to the 4 or 6 way wedge now? I love the box wedge machines because they make small splits and you don't have to touch the wood after you put it on the splitter.

    • @HometownAcres
      @HometownAcres  4 года назад +1

      I think the 4 way wedge and 6 way wedge are the right tool for creating home heating wood because you can split your wood bigger for the boiler or wood stove. This box wedge is perfect for people who want their wood split smaller like campers or people who burn in their fireplace around the holidays. They want their wood to burn bright and hot. So the way I see it I’ll use the 4 way and 6 way for wood I’ll split for my own personal heating needs and use the box wedge for everything I sell

    Hey I have seen these types of splitters before but never in person, Ive always thought they look like they create a lot of mess, small debris. I know all splitters do but it looks like this type of splitter creates more than their fair share, have you found that to be the case?

      It creates more than your traditional single wedge 25 ton residential splitter but it’s a fair trade off for the increased speed and efficiency you get from the commercial splitter

      @@HometownAcres You think its faster, is there anything else you like about it over a traditional 4 way splitter?

      Lee White it is hands free once you get the log on the table. You don’t have any readjusting to do and it is more versatile meaning you can split 10” rounds with it all the way up to 30”+. The 4 way wedge on a 30” round is going to be a lot slower than the box wedge

    They sound like a good idea, must just look at the amount of Waste they make. I don't think I would enjoy one of these splitters very much, because I would have so much waste to burn.

    Whats the most hardest firewood you have split with the log splitter?

    Could you raise the box wedge up and make bigger pieces?

      Yes you can. I haven’t tried it yet but I will in a future video. Maybe it could be my all around wedge for everything

      I would also like to see a video making a little bit bigger pieces with the box wedge.

      Brandon Paul multiple people have requested it. I will definitely make a video about it. Thanks for watching and commenting

      That would be awesome! I sell boiler wood so it's pretty good sized. I really like the concept of the box wedge because once the wood is in the cradle its hands free, but if it cant make bigger wood it wont do me any good. Looking forward to the new video, thanks!

    That makes splitting effortless. Are the fines less or about the same as a 4 or 6 way?

      Probably a little more than the 4 way wedge but probably about the same as the 6 way wedge

    Your going to break off your hydraulic levers eventually if you continue to hit them like that... this splitter seems to split nice but seems to be slightly underpowered
