This band is awesome. The singer Mayu, is versatile… and her screams sound like that live by the way. Check out the live version of Oiran to see for yourself. But lately she being smart with her voice and using the right technique. She sings in a clean voice most of the time.
My favorite band, full stop. Amazingly, they are even better live, where their insane chemistry and charisma just explode off the stage (as well as their elite-tier musicianship). Mayu's fry screams are very real (that is, no effects needed, for all that they use them on this track), and her slightly smoky clean voice is really distinctive. They have a rapidly growing catalog, and it's all quality. I suggest checking out Revive (riff-driven banger with much less processed fry screams), Adabana, Raitei, Monsters, and the emotional ballad Life. Oh, hell, just check it all out...worth the deep dive.
Thank you for responding to NEMOPHILA. NEMOPHILA is a band formed in 2019 with top level experienced members in Japan, shortly before the pandemic caused by COVID-19. Their basis is heavy metal, but they are. incorporate a variety of genres that are unmatched by other heavy metal bands. Also, they are heavy in their songs, but they are usually relaxed and unpretentious, which is also nice. They will never betray you! We look forward to seeing NEMOPHILA in the future!
Drummer has had 2 babies since the band was formed. The singer performed their American tour while heavily pregnant and now also has a baby. Besides having babies they are a kick ass band. Try the live version of Oiran or Sorai. BAND-MAID just sold out the Tokyo Gardens. It's their first really big concert. After 9 years they have made it. You might be interested in their latest song Influencer. They are rock not metal but they are so good. See you 🇦🇺 .

Definitely check out the official live video for Oiran at Naon Yaon 2021. They also have a metric ton of covers they uploaded from their jam room and various bedrooms and closets during the Covid lockdown. Those are priceless and range from J-Pop to 80s hair jams to straight up Japanese alt-metal.💪🏻🤘🏻
Great Reaction! Also welcome to the wonderful kick ass world of Nemophila. They just released their second album back in December. By the way yes this song had some effect on her voice produced in studio but she can scream even better live. She can go from cleans to scream in a snap. Her screams live are more gritty too. All these ladies from 20s to early 30s and they are some of the most talented musicians I have come across. They mostly metal and hard rock but are versatile and can play many genre. Saki and Hazuki on guitar are shredders trading off and also playing harmonizing solos. They are amazing as is the bass and the drummer is one of the best I have seen. Check out Oiran official live from them and you can see Mayu scream live. Also other songs to try are Revive, Adabana, Raeti, Hypnosis. She does not scream in all their songs and has a awesome unique voice with that rasp of hers. All their songs are kick ass and they have done a number of amazing cover songs to from Iron Maiden ,Kiss,AC/DC and many more. They just started their next tour in Japan and will be in the US for a few weeks touring in March.
This band is so versatile it hard to pin them down to one "sound". Mayu's voice is actually amazing, she can do the scream then go to melodic live. Both guitarists and the bassist are extraordinary in their own right. There are more songs where the bass is more prominent, actually you should check out a live performance of this song for a different take. The drummer is one of the most sought out session drummers in Japan. She does music for anime/video game projects, jazz session, prog rock sessions and also is a respected drum instructor; all that and she looks 19 lol (I think she's 32). Tamu (drummer) also plays piano, guitar, bass, xylophone, and sax. I'm sure someone probably has pointed it out, but the singer Mayu got the ladies together to do a one off session and they clicked so well and had such a great time they decided to keep it going as a permanent band. Every song you hear from this bad is going to be different, in a good way. Mayu has a wonderful versatile voice and they don't stick to the typical sound signature or chord progressions that make most popular music cliché/interchangeable. I would suggest after you do a reaction to one of their songs, if its not a live one, find a live version for comparison. Their official channel has live sessions in a rehearsal space that give you a feel of how good they are live; like 20+ videos that also include covers. I have just got into them the last two months and I can say this is right now one of my overall favorite bands. When you watch them live, especially the rehearsal sessions, they are having such a good time and you can tell they have a genuine bond, honesty it just makes you feel good. It sounds corny, but if I'm having a down time I can watch one of those sessions and my spirits get lifted. I don't know, its like in their faces your watching how joyful life can be, no need to be always stressed. I know that sounds weird but its the vibe they give off. Anyway, they've put a lot of content out in only two years but its worth getting through it all. I've listened to probably 30 songs including covers and they're all excellent, not one is even average, imo.

Seize The Fate is one of the best albums of 2022. This band is one of the best metal/rock bands today. In studio recordings, clips, mayu´s voice is obviously digitally processed and in real life a little different (but mayu's live lion roar is equally impressive, even better). If you want to know the real voice of mayu, watch the live version-Oiran or Blooming and other great songs from this incredible talented band. Singer mayu has an incredible color palette of vocal tones. She is a vocal virtuoso. For me, Adabana is one of the best songs of 2022. Have a good day 🙂.

This is one of the bands to watch, no question. They just started in 2019 and are blowing up fast. As you can see from the gang vocals, they don't take themselves too seriously-Hazuki even winks. They are a supergroup composed of: ex-Mary's Blood guitarist Saki ex-Lipstick vocalist Mayu ex-Disqualia guitarist Hazuki (also plays with Lisa-X) ex-Hölderlins bassist Haraguchi-san, and ex-Soramimi drummer Murata Tamu Initially, they were just a side project, co-organized by Mayu with some help from Saki, largely to keep busy in the early days of the pandemic. Mayu can do screams and sing without effects she does it live. She is an incredible singer. The whole band is spectacular, the 2 guitarists (Saki and Hazuki) are excellent and use 7-string guitars and lead guitar. Haraguchi, the bassist is insanely good and the drummer Tamu is wild.
Mayu can do this live. Sometimes they use effects on her voice but usually not, usually the screams and harsh vocals are completely straight and she transitions seamlessly between screams and clean. She didn’t used to be able to go for 90 minutes without losing it, but over about two years she worked her ass off to make sure she had the right technique to go for a full two hour set and be able to sing beautifully at the end of it. Sort of pointless though, as half the time she’s in tears at the end of a concert 😜 - you’d have to check out “Life” to see why.

I love Nemophila, but it took a while for Mayu's voice to click with me. Once it did, I was all in with Nemophila and don't see myself exiting the fandom. Do not get attached to their outfits or to Mayu's orange hair color, though, and they have a wide array in their sound. What you hear in one song is definitely not what to expect in the next song, but that can be said about all of the great Japanese rock and metal groups like Babymetal, LOVEBITES, BAND-MAID, Wagakki Band, Gacharic Spin, and others. The Japanese rock and metal scene is a deep rabbit hole to fall down, but it's worth every note.
You got the pronunciation pretty close. neh-moh-FEE-lah. The 'e' is pronounced w/ the short sound like in 'set' and 'net'. Also, the stress is on the third syllable, the 'fee', in the way Japanese pronounce this word. My favorite from them is "ADABANA".
It is a Federal Statute for Westerners listening to Japanese all-female hard rock and metal bands that you MUST LOVE Band Maid, Lovebites and Nemophila. Failure to do so may result in a lengthy imprisonment.
Yea, the vocal production.... somehow Japanese producers are big fans of putting a lot of production effects on vocals and I really don't know why. Fun thing is: Mayu actually sounds better and more direct and brutal in live recordings as opposed to studio verisons and she can still sing clean (well she often uses a bit of rasp in that) anyways :)

Scrolled through some of the comments and I didn't see any mention of the one guitarist here, can't remember her name, ok me old headbanger, was with another band until recently called Mary's Blood. Another one of the great bands of Japan though unfortunately they are probably on permanent hiatus.

Maximum the Hormone is probably the biggest band along with Babymetal. So many others as well. Nemophila OIRAN live at NaonYaon is a great one to check out.

This is one of the bands to watch, no question. They just started in 2019 and are blowing up fast. As you can see from the gang vocals, they don't take themselves too seriously-Hazuki even winks. They almost seem to be enjoying a private joke, that goes "Hi, we're a bunch of cute, fun girls and we are going to rip your face off, and you are going to like it.”
Nemophila (you got the pronunciation right) were founded in 2019. They are a supergroup composed of:

ex-Disqualia guitarist Hazuki (also plays with Lisa-X)
ex-Hölderlins bassist Haraguchi-san, and

Initially, they were just a side project, co-organized by Mayu with some help from Saki, largely to keep busy in the early days of the pandemic. The viral reaction seems to have convinced them they were onto something potentially big, so they’ve been putting a lot more work into it, including some successful live-streams and an appearance at the annual Japanese female rock festival NAONのYAON. Saki is the only one who had been with a breakout band before (Mary’s Blood); Hazuki and Murata-tamu are also considered elite musicians and have worked with a lot of other top artists. Hara-san is the youngest but is clearly a great talent and has been developing in front of our eyes. She has already written several songs for the group. And of course Mayu is quickly establishing herself as a one of the world’s best metal vocalists.
Mayu can do screams and sing without effects she does it live. She is an incredible singer. The whole band is spectacular, the 2 guitarists (Saki and Hazuki) are excellent and use 7-string guitars and lead guitar. Haraguchi, the bassist is insanely good and the drummer Tamu is wild.

Mayu can do this live. Sometimes they use effects on her voice but usually not, usually the screams and harsh vocals are completely straight and she transitions seamlessly between screams and clean. She didn’t used to be able to go for 90 minutes without losing it, but over about two years she worked her ass off to make sure she had the right technique to go for a full two hour set and be able to sing beautifully at the end of it. Sort of pointless though, as half the time she’s in tears at the end of a concert 😜 - you’d have to check out “Life” to see why.
I still love this version of 'Dissension' even with the vocal effects but you must check their Live, Nemophila can pull this off.. Now you should check Hanabie - 'We love Sweets'🤘🌸❤️🎸🎌

I love Nemophila, but it took a while for Mayu's voice to click with me. Once it did, I was all in with Nemophila and don't see myself exiting the fandom. Do not get attached to their outfits or to Mayu's orange hair color, though, and they have a wide array in their sound. What you hear in one song is definitely not what to expect in the next song, but that can be said about all of the great Japanese rock and metal groups like Babymetal, LOVEBITES, BAND-MAID, Wagakki Band, Gacharic Spin, and others. The Japanese rock and metal scene is a deep rabbit hole to fall down, but it's worth every note.

You got the pronunciation pretty close. neh-moh-FEE-lah. The 'e' is pronounced w/ the short sound like in 'set' and 'net'. Also, the stress is on the third syllable, the 'fee', in the way Japanese pronounce this word. My favorite from them is "ADABANA".

Yea, the vocal production.... somehow Japanese producers are big fans of putting a lot of production effects on vocals and I really don't know why. Fun thing is: Mayu actually sounds better and more direct and brutal in live recordings as opposed to studio verisons and she can still sing clean (well she often uses a bit of rasp in that) anyways :)
