Hi Dave, nice video. Waipakihi hut nearly always is busy, it being pretty much the only hut in the area that isn't private. Next time around you could do worse than to call it a day an hour before dark and set up camp alongside the river. It's magical there.

Hi Peter thanks for your input. Yes we all hand tents and could have done that but we all got a mattresses or floor to sleep on. We did spend a night on the river.

Awesome vid. Nice seeing the comparison between the Kathmandu and Pukeko tents. Have you tramped around Mt Pirongia?

Thanks Rob. Yes I’ve hiked Every track on Pirongia several times. There is an early video of a wildcamp there in my adventure playlist. Are you local?

@@OutdoorsmanDave my wife is from Piopio and we live in Auckland. We have driven past many times through the town and I've always wanted to have a look up there. On the net it says all of the tracks are 'Advanced'. Do you think they are a bit hard for a Venturers group? That's like 14-18 year old Scouts. My son is a Venturer. We know a family down there with a farm at the base of the mountain they might be able at camp at, near a stream.

Hey Rob. It’s a 700m climb to Urchin so fitness is a factor but one I’d hope every teenager could handle. There’s Tree Trunk Gorge hike which makes a great bush MTB or near Piopio Letches? Hut an easy 3-4hr overnight hike. Look through my adventure playlist, you may find one that suits.

Can't imagine what is so large in New Zealand that you have bones like that laying around. I'm so used to seeing k'roos. ...... maybe they belong to an Oompa Loompa ...
