I laughed when Jim mentioned maybe Impact should have full on male vs female hardcore matches since nobody watches..... Wasn't that the main event of a PPV a few years back? 🤔 (I wanna say Sami Callihan vs Tessa Blanchard in Monsters Ball match?)
Rhea Ripley is 5'7" and 137 pounds, Ricochet is 5'9" and 188 pounds. Men have more muscle mass, bone density and lung capacity than women. So even if Ricochet weighed 137 pounds it still would not be a fair fight and I don't know how these two could take that match seriously. Why not have Jade Cargill vs MJF? Champion vs Champion on pay per view? The only people who would want to see that are woke idiots and wifebeaters and those people would rather spend their welfare check on drugs and booze than wrestling.
Intergender wrestling is such a cheap gimmick with very little payoff. If the guy squashes the woman, it's got heavy domestic violence viibes. If the woman beats the guy, there's no reason to ever take the guy seriously ever again. I don't mind seeing Rhea Ripley throwing someone around outside the ring, but I don't want to see her in a HIAC match with Edge.
I didn't know that the first person that the Guy Fieri demon posses was Scotty 2 Hotty is he going to take Jim Cornette Griffin to Flavortown alongside the Pesto Crew
I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with Scotty not wanting to wrestle women. He's not calling anybody out or saying disparaging remarks. This is why wrestling was so much better before social media. What a stupid thing to get worked up over.
I don't hate intergender wrestling. It doesn't bother me that it's unrealistic because I like some unrealistic stuff The thing I don't like is man on woman violence it makes me uncomfortable
I think Brian had the right idea. If you book a large, really muscular woman like Chyna against a lighter, "cruiserweight" man it can work but not against a big guy like Lesnar. It's also worth noting that, arguably, the greatest female wrestler of all time, Mildred Burke, used to wrestle men quite a bit.
She wasn't wrestling the World Heavyweight Champion, the junior heavyweight champion or even the Pittsburg champion. She did wrestle around 200 men and never lost to a man within 20 pounds of her weight, but she also wasn't wrestling any pro wrestlers anyone was hoping to push, just showing that she could whoop the locals, the fans, on the mat.
About ten years there was a story that came out about a high school wrestler who was undefeated, and downright unbeatable. They had just started the intergender mix in real wrestling and his next tournament opponent was a girl. The kid was raised an extreme Christian or something and refused to wrestle the match and took the loss. Anyway I was on a beach trip with friends and we brought up this story with each other. My friend had just started on a serious liberal trip and was so pissed off I agreed with the kids decision. He was throwing shit around and causing a scene. Its not even old school ideals or non progressive. It's common sense.
I still remember Sexy Starr beating Mil Muertes for the Lucha Underground championship. Penta facing Asuka, Io, and Kairi. Both situations were just awkward. You can be the most badass female ever, but there are limits to "the suspension of disbelief."
I think intergender matches are fairly common in Lucha Libre. I don't know the reason for it. I remember the Pentagon vs Lotus Tribe (3 women) match was a gauntlet match which Pentagon lost against the third woman due to outside interference. I actually enjoyed the match because the three of them could hold their own against him and took some really good bumps. He also wrestled Chelsea Green in Lucha Underground and I thought that match was pretty good as well.
I can't speak for anyone else but I can't get into intergender wrestling. I was raised from Year Zero to believe that a man physically assaulting a woman is absolutely disgusting and that any man who does it should be buried underneath the prison. Well pro wrestling is simulated violence, so the more realistic and believable it is the more distasteful I'm going to find it and if you think I'm gonna want to pay to see it you are absolutely insane. By all means have your female wrestlers train with male wrestlers and trainers to work on spots or brush up on their skills but don't do it in front of a paying audience.
His name is Marc Mero - and his career would have gone exactly the same way in the long run, without that powerbomb. He was done having any hope to ever be a main eventer when his valet got ten times better reactions during their entrance together, than he did. He also had serious injuries and couldn't wrestle at all for one and a half years after he left the WWF in 1999. His career was already over. He had two "mini comebacks" in XWF in 2001/02 and TNA in 2004 for three or four month and it didn't work. Not long after that, he retired for good. That "Sable Bomb" was indeed not a good look and pretty ridiculous, but it wasn't nearly as important for how Mero's career went as Jim likes to make it out to be. All the stuff that happened before had already made him a laughing stock and his body was wrecked. As if having a match or two jobbing for Austin could have done anything to repair the damage his image and health had already suffered at that point. A lot of people had matches with Austin and didn't get elevated. Because that's not what those matches were about. They were about making Stone Cold look as strong as possible - and nothing else. His big chance of maybe becoming a main eventer, under the right circumstances, was in WCW, never in the WWF.
I really can't fathom the outrage, wherever you stand he was respectful. He didn't bury intergender wrestling, he justvsaid it wasn't for him which is fair enough.
In regards to a crusher weight vs a heavyweight. It can work depending on who the worker is. Rey Mysterio is probably the best one at making it believable. Matt Hardy was solid as well in 2002 when he was in the cruiser weight division. Eddie Guerrero and Dean Malenko made it believable too.
I don't think Rey made it work though (did you forget how much he was getting squashed even with a title?), but it just so happens that we were in the post humous reign of Eddie and at the moment, he able to ride that energy.
My guess is ppl either misreading what he said either unintentionally or intentionally to start drama. For the latter enough said for the former they might have thought he meant it in a negative way even if he didnt mean it that way.
Intergender Wrestling works the best in Mexico. Because domestic violence seems to be the life down here, when they see a women get beaten it fires women fans, especially when the women come back fighting. They LOVE that shit. But the guys don't look weak at all by giving women more of the offense, unless he purposely let her.
The part they never tell you is Netflix and most other popular streaming services block VPN connections from a lot of these providers like Nord, Express, etc.
To Jim's point about people wanting to elevate women on the same level as men, I really think that the way you do that is to actually treat their storylines and matches with reverence. Which starts at the beginning of having more women that are well trained and can work at a high level. It's not like it doesn't happen or that it can't happen. In my opinion the reason why women's MMA gets as much reverence as it does with men to the point where it can headline several pay-per-views as the main event or co-man event throughout the year is because the women are taking seriously, the women train alongside with the men, and their fights as a byproduct are just as competitive if not more competitive. There have been several times where you have a woman's fight on a UFC card that steals the show while the guys completely stink up the place in the main event. You can show reverence and importance by taking the craft seriously as opposed to just having a guy power bomb a girl through a table.

@@gm2998 True. I myself am not pro intergender matches nor care much about them but Japan and Mexico aren't as overly sensitive about man-on-woman violence as Americans or Westerners in general are, hence why they don't make it as much of a big deal about them.

That was a really good response from new Brian. Hit the nail right on the head.

Yeah that's why I no longer care for or like Sammy Calhoun

Yeah, this seems like a storm in a teacup. Intergender matches _can_ work, but that doesn't mean they always work.
This looks like when Stewie got the ADHD meds or the concussion.
I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with Scotty not wanting to wrestle women. He's not calling anybody out or saying disparaging remarks. This is why wrestling was so much better before social media. What a stupid thing to get worked up over.
There is nothing wrong with Scotty's response
I don't hate intergender wrestling. It doesn't bother me that it's unrealistic because I like some unrealistic stuff
The thing I don't like is man on woman violence it makes me uncomfortable
The advertisement though....lmao
Damn, Jim been eating too many of them pizzas with the weird cheese. Ha.
Then again, if it was Aja Kong vs Andy Kaufmann, I'd still give it to the woman, wouldn't you?
Penta fought Io Shirai, Kairi Hojo, and Mayu Iwatani. Asuka was already in WWE at that time
@@imneveruploadinghere7180 Ah. That's who it was. Thank you
I think intergender matches are fairly common in Lucha Libre.
If you're a dude going after Scotty for what he said, ya'll just simps.
Exhibit A.) Marc Marrow's wrestling career AFTER he was SABLE BOMBED.

Agree.
Mikey Whipwreck, also.
And in recent times, Kalisto and Rusev had great matches with each other.
Also A-Kid from NXT UK is great.

He's not wrong. However some of his defenders aren't helping.
That’s a lie

It's bizarre to me how such an innocuous comment has garnered so much controversy and attention, I don't know if it's just because it's the Harpo Fingerbang/Beat Your Meat crowd or if it's just because these people live on Twitter, but my god do they love to fight with people on the internet, it seems like the less it makes sense for them to target a person, the more they want to try and ruin his reputation by throwing obscene accusations around with zero reasoning or knowledge of what they're talking about.

People are just so stupid when it comes to what people in wrestling say. Like the time Jim Cornette called the Trevor Murdoch match *Cutaway to said match*
As someone who has wrestled a girl before (middle school amateur wrestling) I agree with Scotty, it’s not my thing either
3:00 in is when he talks about Scott's comments. Before that a long bio on Scotty too hotty.
I agree, there is no men vs. Women in any competitive sports, why ruin pro wrestling with it! There's a vast amount of amazing female wrestlers out there, and I like women's wrestling. And to me there's no faster way for a man to destroy his reputation as a bad ass wrestler, than start losing matches against women. It's really a lose lose situation.
Hence why I say that "intergender match" should be limited strictly to chickenshit heel managers only.
Tell that to Nyla Rose
Its crazy that he got so much heat for this. He is allowed an opinion, and whats more he has a point. I don't understand why people get so pressed about others personal beliefs.
And he wasn't even saying that he had an issue with it overall. He was only saying that HE personally didn't want to be involved in it.

Aside that, normal intergender matches are common in Japan and Mexico. For example, some days ago in the X-Over show of NJPW and Stardom, the card included 3 matches with mixed tag teams.
@@gm2998 True. I myself am not pro intergender matches nor care much about them but Japan and Mexico aren't as overly sensitive about man-on-woman violence as Americans or Westerners in general are, hence why they don't make it as much of a big deal about them.
You mean to tell me people on Twitter got upset about something completely pointless? I'm truly shocked.
A shocking amount of fans don't want to admit to themselves that they find wrestling to be erotic and sexualize the performance and not just the performer....they get off on this crap instead of viewing it as a simulated fight.
I think this is it. Look at some of the aew fans. Some are normal and some (the ones with the fake title belts usually) look like mutants.
@@BB-ed4om I really find Jamie Hayter, Toni Storm, Hikaru Shida, and Skye Blue to be exceptionally attractive...but while they wrestle I'm watching them as performers and I'm not just viewing them as someone I want to fuck. The intergender stuff to me just looks like violence towards a woman, or some weird rape fantasy come to life.
I mean there was always that element to wrestling tho ring rats were a thing in Jims day too.
Wresting is about suspending disbelief. It's hard to do that in most intergender matches.
Not the match's problem.
