Gosh, where to begin... Well, first, thank you so so much, Jackie and Caitlin, for cheering me on, sharing my new podcast and celebrating the fact that it is finally out there in the world. I appreciate it more than I can say. Secondly, Lili, I am swooning over that flamingo pink yarn and I can't stop thinking how fabulous it would be to have Hunter boots in that exact colour! Thirdly, I love the way you think about quilts and making, Sally. This thread of the times woven through your work along with deep intention and whole-hearted gratitude - just exquisite. Fourthly, you know I am so there for the #halfwrapkal - garter all the way! And lastly, something for our educators, teachers, lecturers, school librarians, school nurses, play-leaders, dinner ladies, tutors and all those who show up and care, tend and teach our children... May you look for joy and find it often, and remember that it's not made to be a crumb. “Don’t Hesitate” by Mary Oliver If you suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy, don’t hesitate. Give in to it. There are plenty of lives and whole towns destroyed or about to be. We are not wise, and not very often kind. And much can never be redeemed. Still, life has some possibility left. Perhaps this is its way of fighting back, that sometimes something happens better than all the riches or power in the world. It could be anything, but very likely you notice it in the instant when love begins. Anyway, that’s often the case. Anyway, whatever it is, don’t be afraid of its plenty. Joy is not made to be a crumb.
I have been teaching for more than 30 years. Your comment about the first week of school couldn’t be more true. The level of anxiety in the building was unlike anything I’ve experienced before. We’ve been in school now for 4 weeks and I couldn’t be more proud of our students and faculty. Their resilience and passion for making it our students feel a sense of normalcy while at school has resulted in a beautiful start to the school year. Although we’ve been on a hybrid schedule for the last 4 weeks, students both on Zoom and in the classroom have been happy to engage in new learning experiences. I teach sixth grade and I’m impressed by how the students have stepped up to the challenge of staying up to date with online assignments. Rather than receiving emails from parents about student work, I’m receiving emails from my students in the regular. I think through all of this, students have learned valuable life skills of responsibility and resourcefulness, traits that can’t be taught in a classroom. I’m so proud of my kiddos and I’m so excited to see all of their faces sitting in my classroom beginning next week. Our county has “graduated” from hybrid schedule ( we saw only half our students every other day) to full traditional. Cheers to our kids and staff for hanging in there and prayers that we continue to remain safe and healthy through the end of the year!
I say a prayer for our teachers everyday. You have such a wonderful gift to not only teach our children but to teach adults as well by what our children have learned and pass on to us. When my granddaughter was in preschool, her teacher brought in caterpillars and showed the children each stage of becoming a beautiful butterfly. That summer as I was gardening I spotted a caterpillar on my dill plant, which I was going to remove. My granddaughter quickly shouted “no, no Gigi, we have to keep it”. Through her she taught me each stage it went through, thanks to her wonderful teacher. That was two years ago and we have been continuing this beautiful tradition every year. Teachers do make a lasting impression on all of us. Thank you for all you do!
A teacher in my life that I am so thankful for is my ballet teacher Linda, she instructed me for years, always with so much genuine joy. In every class she'd tell us, " It's not what you do, but how you do it." As I got older, I learned that she was talking about so much more than just dance steps. She was taking about life and how we treat others. I'm currently in my intern year of a pediatric residency, it's exhausting and at times overwhelming, but no matter how tired, I hear Linda in my head, reminding me that it's not always the care I give to my patients and their families - but how I deliver it that matters the most. And that is what gets me through the shift. Teachers make such an important, lasting impact and I'm endlessly grateful for the incredible ones who have shaped mine.
My third grade teacher in NE was Miss Lilli Berkhardt. She was amazing, and kind, and wore fine knit cardigans, wool skirts, and high-heeled lace up mid-calf black boots. She made sure we had a clean handkerchief and clean fingernails daily. She challenged us to do our best. She had had polio and used a cane. She was my most memorable teacher in so many ways. My family moved in March of that year (63 years ago) to the West Coast. She wrote to me for several years after we moved and gave me the confidence and encouragement to deal with all of the changes I had to endure.Learning to be flexible. Thank you for your wonderful podcast and warm family.
My thoughts and prayers are with every educator. They are the light for so many young minds and have the ability to shape their lives in ways that no one else can. This year may look different, but what you are doing is one of the most important professions! Thank you...
Teachers are amazing. You are all so caring and giving. Just listening to you shows us all how loving you are. I will pray for you health, physical and mental. Also for the safety and health of yours and all students and teachers. God bless you For doing what you do.
To my first grade teacher, Miss Mally . You was a star to me, you shined so bright in my eyes. Coming from a home that only spoke Spanish you had so much patients with me. I enjoyed going to school because you made it magical. I am 54 and I still remember her kindness. God Bless you and all the wonderful Teachers that make these children a brighter day.
Teachers have such a massive impact on individuals, communities, the world.... After the mind-bending experience of teaching via the interwebs through fourth quarter this spring, I say yes and amen to abundant grace, patience, wisdom, and support for all those teaching, studying - and learning - through this uniquely challenging season. And I'm grateful for knitting as therapy in the midst! :)
I am praying for all the children and all the teachers in the world. I am a teacher from Finland and see daily how important it is for young people to be cared for, inspired, encouraged and also comforted during these scary times. Thank you for the KAL ... all I need now when it comes to knitting is some soothing garter :)
Sending all my love to teachers, school staff and students. You are all doing so well, are valued and are courageous. I’d like to express gratitude for all the wonderful teachers I’ve had. They helped me to be fortunate enough to achieve my dreams.
Dear teachers, you provide stability my kiddos need and an unsurmountable amount of patience that discovered I do not have. I love you all for your adaptability and being amazing people that motivate and inspire my children to learn and be creative. Thank you.
Thank you for your shine, your laughter and joy! To all the educators in our midst, we see you and share your concerns during these extraordinary times. Thank you for your courage and commitment to sharing your knowledge and expertise, we know you care and are doing your best!
I want to go back and redo Third Grade so I can have Jackie as my teacher. Brave and dedicated. Teachers should be paid what the hedge funders are paid. That would be fair. Thank you for another inspiring podcast, favorite girls. xxx
I am so grateful for both of my sons teachers! They are rock stars!! They have taken this time of online learning and not skipped a beat!! I am so impressed with all they do with the online teaching and how they work so hard to engaged all of the kids!! Thank you teachers for all you do!!!
I taught 7th graders for many years. I now work in a public library. Teachers have such a huge task this year. I applaud each of you. Thank you for doing your best for our kids and grandkids.
I just love you guys! Our virtual school starts tomorrow and our district has gone above and beyond to make this the best it can be. Cheers to all the teachers, staff, parents and bright shiny babes doing the work.
Teachers are an inspiration of love and encouragement. Teachers are masters at understanding children's hearts 💕 Teachers are educators and so much more. I am a child of the sixties and one whose parents participated in a program where my sisters and I were sent to schools outside of where we lived. My memory of my 4th grade teacher Mrs. Howell remains so endearing. Mrs. Howell would knit during recess and noticed my fascination so during recess she taught me how to knit. I don't know if Mrs. Howell is still here but I often look up to the sky to thank her. She provided me with the most special gift. I just wish she knew the depth of her kindness. Knitting has been my anchor, my life line, My best friend and my way to give to others.
I have such love and gratitude for all educators, it's a true calling and I know I couldn't do it! My children had the BEST primary school teachers. I have so much love and gratitude for all they did to shape my magnificent (intelligent, capable, curious, kind, sweet) babies. These teachers encouraged and supported them well beyond what their role entailed. Through a harrowing divorce my sons grade 6 teacher put his emotional care above everything and helped catch him when he could have fallen. My knitting educators: you two were my first find when I decided to pick up my needles after a long time away and the things I have learned have been AH-MAZING! So many tips and tricks and it has helped make this new journey so fun (and much easier - OMG Chiaogoo, sleeves in the round, trying on using a longer cable, life lines, stitch marker placement, mohair, the list goes on with what you two have shared). I was so exited to wake up this morning and see you girls back again. Thanks for sharing and making me smile.
Thank you for another inspiring podcast. I think you all speak from the heart , the poetry, the honesty & the fun aspect you bring. Sending you all love & light from rural Scotland.
My best friend is teacher and just returned to the classroom last week. I commend all the teachers now more than ever! This profession is more than a job or role - my friend will say teachers are caregivers, nurses, mothers, social workers and friend all rolled up in one! Love your podcasts!!! I have been watching for about a year and adore Sally and Lili too. ❤️from Ottawa, Canada.
Pray for teachers out there🙏🏻 I do appreciate their hard work in every aspect. I have boy who just started high school this year. I am impressed how the teachers prep for them to start this year so different but so ready for them in a short amount time. Total respect👍👍👍
So many things in this podcast that resonated with me, made me excited to knit, or made me teary-eyed with gratefulness. This is the first time I've watched you all and have now joined in Ravelry forums. Thank you for what you do and for what you bring to all of us. The love you have for each other and for all of us students (aren't we all lifelong students?!) is evident. As for a note about educators, I could hold no higher respect and admiration for those who choose to teach and shape young lives. My mom is a retired teacher who not only taught me in the classroom, but every day at home. Thanks to all of you who dedicate your energy, creativity, heart and worries to making young ones who they can be. As for podcast chatter, I absolutely loved it and nodded along with you all! I am a Linen Quill fan as my first completed sweater was Linen Quill held double for a Weekender (highly recommend) and I covet extra skeins in my stash. Loving the shawl KAL idea. And I enjoy seeing all of the knit and quilting WIPs. Off to watch (and hear!) this lilting Scottish voice... ! :)
I just want to encourage all the moms who are educating their kids at home. Thank you for sacrificing your personal career, time, interests, clean houses, adult interactions, and so much more. It is all worth it. Keep up the good work!!
My art teacher from middle school became my mentor for life. How meaningful has our relationship been? I’m 53 now. I’m still an artist, and he and his husband have continued to be valued members of my family. He passed away in 2018, but I celebrate him every time I begin a new project - and smile to myself when I neatly clean up my workspace at end-of-day (he was a stickler for order ☺️). Teachers...WE LOVE YOU.
Today my husband and I went out on our e bikes for a 50km ride around a lake, with all the wildlife and fantastic views, then saw some of our grandkids on our way home, almost a perfect day. AND THEN a new podcast from you girls, so PERFECT day achieved. Just keep going in whatever way works for you XXXXXX
I may have forgotten what my favourite teachers tried to teach me, but I will never forget how important they made me feel. How much I mattered. Devoted Teachers, you r pure gold xxx
Hello, lovely ladies. Thank you for such an inspirational podcast. I’m watching you from the Netherlands ☺️ The teachers I most remember are the ones who inspired me and those who really had personal attention. And, wow, what a beautiful yarn is the Linen Quill. I really have to knit the Half+Half wrap. Thank you for bringing that under my attention.
I am in awe of all the hard work and care shown by our educators in this time. From my friends who are teaching at the elementary and high school levels to the awesome university professors that are teaching my children, I am know this time is challenging and difficult and I see you. I am so grateful for all the teachers who are putting their hearts and minds to work for our children. Thank you!
When my daughter was in fifth grade we moved to another city in Sicily. She found herself in a new school and a new environment. I was not missing at all the old school and the teachers she had. She was excited and at the same time intimidated. She really wanted to do her best. The new teacher was young and very nice, maybe she did not have a great experience but what she did was simply great. When my daughter had the real first challenge at her new school she hugged her, looked her in her eyes and told her “ You can do this. You are perfectly able to do this and you will succeed. I trust you. “ What she said was truly important. In that moment I saw my daughter changing her attitude and starting a new confident approach . I am grateful for teachers that show empathy and can inspire kids to do their best, not because it is expected from them, but because they are worthy of consideration and can work with passion.
Teachers are amazing. I am a mother of 5 kids, three in school. Our teachers have been so amazing. We love them so much. The teachers who love kids and their job are worth their weight in gold. As a parent it's hard to let go sometimes, a great teacher makes all the difference. Jackie I wish you were in our district!! ;)
So grateful for all teachers who are stepping into the fray of the unknown and topsy-turvey world to guide and inspire our kids with grace, honesty, and hope. We can do this together.
I had the most wonderful first grade teacher, Mrs B. Davis, she was also the teacher for my daughters. We were so lucky to have been taught by a wonderful person. God bless our teachers. ❤️
Many Canadian kids are back to school today and I'm sending all positivity I can muster to the students and their amazing teachers. It's a scary time for everyone. Bless you Jackie to being one of those amazing teachers.
Teachers, you are superheroes. I can only begin to imagine how challenging this time has been for you all and am so grateful for your hard work, dedication, and perseverance to educate our children. I pray and hope you can feel some peace amidst this storm. Thank you thank you thank you
What a difficult and challenging time for our teachers and students. My Grand daughter is entering Kindergarten through virtual learning and it makes me sad how she will miss out on what could have been a fun time entering a school with lots of little kids. Tough for you to interact on a personal level....".I am not a robot" But Jackie your heart is so open and your students are fortunate to have you. Your shawls are going to be gorgeous. I'm not a knitter but so enjoy your knits! You were kind enough to send me a crochet sweater pattern, I printed it and bought the yarn..thank you!!! Such a beautiful "family" living together sharing your craft and stories. I hope you and Caitlin get that sleepover...I lost my husband 2 months ago and would give anything to have just one more.. Love and friendships are the best thing ever and I can see how much you are missing Caitlin. Love your channel !! Hugs
My favorite teacher was Mrs. Alvis. She wore purple every single day, clothes, shoes, purse! Her pens, books, paper! She was kind and fun. I so appreciate all of the work teachers put in. When you consider the amount of time a teacher spends with students through out a year, I always try to be grateful of the positive influence they can make on our children.
My granddaughters school has been so welcoming and have worked so hard throughout this strange time it has been heartwarming and we are so grateful to them during a time where the restrictions here in the uk change often yet they greet you with a big smile everyday
WOW! Purl SOHO is amazing and so are all those wonderful, dedicated teachers... they are not just there for their students, thhey are helping all of us get back to normal. Thank you more than ever
Thank you for yet another podcast. I can relate to Sally about a total meltdown a few days ago. I live in Sonoma County, California and we were on evacuation order warnings most of last week. In addition to Covid 19 stay at home orders for the last 5+ months my youngest son lives in New Orleans and there was a hurricane headed that way. It has been a lot of stress points and knitting has again nurtured me during very challenging times. I have sewed quite a bit a well. I am just finishing a comfort knit (The polka dotted scarf by Churchmouse ) and am feeling inspired to knit the half and half triangle wrap ever since I saw Debbie’s at your last podcast. It is just the perfect knit for this time. I am sending much love and appreciation out to all teachers at this challenging time. ❤️🧶🧵💄😘🙏
Thank you ladies again for such a wonderful podcast! I have friends who are teachers/ who teach teachers, some are retired and some are working. I have always had the utmost appreciation for teachers but in the age of Covid and the racial injustice in our country I just want to hug all teachers forever!!! Grateful isn’t enough for what we should be feeling for our teachers but I am so grateful. Thank you Jackie and all the other teachers in the world and when I can hug you I will.
Our amazing, beloved teachers are struggling through a time that defies description. Yes, our children need to navigate these days but the most inspiring work of our teachers is that they are preparing our little ones for the future. I'm so thankful to know that the work of today is laying a secure foundation of a peaceful, successful future.
I am thankful that my children all came thru the public school system, succeeded beautifully in college and all have wonderful jobs. I know it is due to the wonderful people who took the time to care and nurture them along the way.....THANK YOU TEACHERS
Thank you to ALL of the teachers and support staff that have stepped up in this most challenging of times. You are on the frontline of our children’s futures and we appreciate it very much.
Teachers, parents and children are bearing the weight of this crisis. My thanks and admiration go to you all each day. May we all soon be looking back on these days with pride for our courage and endurance. My hope for this year is that you all find unexpected joy in your days.
My son has teachers (in kindergarten) that are absolutely amazing! The transition they pulled off in April May for online learning for small kids was noteworthy and outstanding! They are just rainbows after a storm!
Rays of sunshine...each of you. Thank you for another hour and half of inspiration and cheer. I'm down in the linen quill rabbit hole still shopping for more. Maybe I will make a half +half triangle wrap for a car.
Teachers will always have a special place in my heart! My Mom was a teacher who died when I was 5 years old. I was blessed to have an amazing 3rd grade teacher who had lost her husband in a car crash a few years prior. She became my Mom when I was in 5th grade and I am eternally grateful that she and my Dad found each other! My daughter graduated in May with her masters and teaching degree and is starting her teaching career tomorrow teaching 2nd grade. I'm very proud of her and feel that she comes by it naturally! To all the teachers - God bless you, I know it is incredibly stressful this year with all the changes and new things due to the virus. I'm praying for all of you! Also, I just love your podcast, you are my favorite knitting podcast and I look forward to your kal.
Thank you for an excellent episode. A high school teacher I had was a Saint. A gifted teacher who never blinked in the face of many challenges. Good luck to everyone wrt education this Fall.
The days are going to be brighter and the knowledge that our teachers have will continue to enlighten each of our children. Thank you to Mr. Klophenstein, my eighth grade Biology teacher who still keeps in touch with his past students. Dedication!
To me, teachers are people we remember our whole lives through. I think of mine often, particularly the ones I had in elementary school. Loved all of them and looked up to every single one. Thank heavens for teachers and all they do! ❤️ This shawl looks so squishy and wonderful. I do NOT need another project, but am having a very hard time getting it off my mind!
Teachers are my heroes. May they continue to find joy in the gifts they offer to our children, families, and communities. May we see their service and honor them for being difference makers. ❤️
As always I love your podcast, ladies! It might seem clique of me to say that my mother is my favorite teacher considering the fact that I was homeschooled my entire life, but it's the truth. I witnessed first hand the sacrifices that she made daily to pour into my life the love and strength I would need in this world. She not only made sure I was taught all of the basic subjects, but she also taught me how to love learning, how to think for myself (even if it meant disagreeing with her on occasions), and how to be responsible for my actions. She honestly prepared me for the future in so many ways that I am just beginning to understand in my twenties. As always I love seeing what Sally and Lily have been working on and I love how sweet and genuine you all are! Would love to have the opportunity to meet all of you wonderful ladies someday. Hope that you have a beautiful week!
I remember fondly my kindergarten teacher who played the guitar to us and sang, such a soft sweet voice, she instilled in me the love of simple things and taking time to appreciate the small things in life. Thank you ladies for the generosity of your podcast which lifts my spirit and brings such joy to my day.
My kids are thankfully back in school in person. I am so impressed with all of the teachers and other school workers extra efforts to keep the kids safe and happy. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all you are doing and wearing a smile while you do it. Even though we can’t see it, we can feel it.
My favorite was Mrs. Aleck in 3rd grade. She challenged me to do my best and when my dad was transferred to Alaska, she even answered my letters when I was missing her so much. I'm sending positive thoughts to all of you terrific teachers. I'm praying you are safe and are shown lots of love. You make such a difference to our future adults. Big hugs to you!!!
I am in awe of the work that teachers are doing these days. Doing good work amid so much uncertainty! I was listening to This American Life this morning. Teachers in Utah were talking about going into a new school year not knowing whether they’d be teaching in person or online or some combination. Hearing about parents who are adamant that their children will not wear masks. How does one persevere in the face of such uncertainty and conflict? Yet teachers are there to do their good work no matter what. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Hi! Thanks so much for the inspiration and how hard you work as a teacher. I have two middle schoolers and I am so grateful to all of the teachers who are working to create a safe space. xoxo
I’m thinking of my daughter-in-law Chrissy, who is teaching virtually in Philadelphia, and is providing inspiration to the students on a daily basis. She is my hero! Kudos to her!
I’m a new viewer and have fallen in love with your podcasts. I’m am entertained and inspired your knitting. What a joy it is to watch your friendship and love you share for each other. I am determined to watch all your episodes💗
So lovely to see you all again, inspired to start a shawl for winter soon ;) As a teacher's assistant here in UK, we're returning back to school in a week time and honestly, I'm a bit worried. Worried what impact this all is having on the children, and I guess, we'll see soon. I'm really hoping we can all cope with the changes and challenges thrown at us. Watching knitting podcasts definitely helps! Take care, Renata xx
Thank you for the podcast - it always makes me happy to see you! Thank you to everyone for all the teacher love 💕. I’m going back into the classroom in a few weeks and it was was heartwarming to read all the positive comments. Let’s have faith in our collective human spirit and care for each other. 🇨🇦
I must knit that wrap now! I have a feeling mine will be somewhat scrappy, but it looks soo cozy. I want to give a big thank you to all the educators out there with creative methods of teaching their students; there are some topics I will never forget 💛. Always a great chat with you ladies!
So much gratitude for my 10th grade English teacher, Sister Barbara. She showed me love, compassion and acceptance of ideological differences. Back in 1986, a 16 year old me wrote a paper taking a pro assisted suicide position. Not only did my Catholic school teacher give me an A, but she had me read it to the class and praised me when I was done. She taught me that my voice mattered, even if it went against the norm. I loved her!
My love and respect to all the teachers I have worked with in the past and all the other teachers across the USA. It is a very trying time not only with Covid but with all the natural disasters the last few weeks. Also my support to all the parents juggling work and home. I am thankful I have already retired and have time to knit.
Thank you for the time and effort you put into sharing with us, I really appreciate it so much during this period. I can’t express my appreciation for teachers, educators, healthcare workers and post/delivery people +++ more. This list is ongoing and there are so many we don’t see who keep us going. I see and am hearing how tired people are at the moment, please be kind to yourself. Melbourne Australia winter at the moment is real. We are in stage 4 lockdown and curfew as our recent, 2nd hit COVID, was really bad. Thankfully this lockdown has started to see benefits in reduced numbers and hopefully we will start flourishing soon. My inner introvert is loving the forced stay at home but I don’t have kids, I see families who are tired and more outbursts from kids than previously. My thoughts are with them all and our community, be it in Melbourne or your home state. Hugs Debs ❤️🇦🇺
This Covid came to change our lives upside down. My kids started school last week and I could see the amount of work and effort the school and the teachers put during the Summer. Things are way better. However, it doesn't mean that there are no challenges: kids , teachers and parents need to work together on this. Educators showed the extra importance they have in our lives I am really really grateful for them in our lives. Thank you.
My favorite teacher is my niece - who is starting her third year of teaching. Yesterday was the first day of school teaching her third graders virtually. I was so encouraged because when I texted her yesterday to see how her day went and one of her comments was that there are a lot of personalities in the class. That gives me hope.
I want to reach out to the champions of the cause. The Teachers. So many of them are ready and willing to go back to the classroom with the sole purpose of keeping the students safe. There is not a lot of pause to think about themselves or their own health. Bravo to these warriors!!
The new school year begins with me and my fellow teachers searching for ways to reassure our students and ourselves that it will all be OK. I am grateful for the my supportive colleagues and the camaraderie we share.
Thank you all for being such a lovely part of my self care. I’m a teacher and I heard Jackie talking about how this year was the most difficult start to school. It certainly has been. I watched the Caitlin part of the podcast and then met my sisters at my fathers apt since he passed away about two weeks ago and we had to start clearing his place out. Obviously that wiped me out. Then came home and graded papers. Finally, rewarded myself with part two of the podcast with Sally and Lily. It was such a lovely way to bookend my day. To remind me that we are all struggling. To remind me that we have our knitting. And each other. The Half Wrap shawl looks just like what we all need to be comforted by right now!
May you be wrapped in the loving support of your sisters, friends, and strangers alike. May your sleep restore you, and may your breath make space inside you to hold or release all that you are passing through right now. Sending love. 🥰
You make a difference. You may never know how you influence others. How that little extra part of yourself may effect/change a life. You are the butterflies and the wings you flap can change history. My working life of over 25 years let me see how much teachers impact their students. The amazing teachers I have witnessed may never know what their little acts of kindness did but their recipients will never forget.
Dear all of you, Thank you for being alive and for your love that you give the world. Wounds are deep and seem to be so difficult to heal when they are ripped open over and over. No encouragement for healing as things begin to calm another fall and injury. The infection is not allowed to heal and maybe it is not the time. I wish for all of us to remember we each have a heart and it often is wounded even though that wound is hidden, just as Sally has "healed" her quilt so many times. It is a continuing process that requires so much energy, so much love, so much patience and so much of all of us to see we are all made up of cells that make us related. We are relatives with so many different layers. Thank you for this podcast. I find Lili, Caitlin, Jackie and Sally to be a bit of a salve. Sending love and joy and hope to all.
As a primary school teacher, practicing healthcare worker & parent of 3 young kids starting back tomorrow. I'm know all teachers will bury the fear deep down, present positivity & resiliency. The next generation will be a better one for it!
My high school years were spent at an all girls catholic school and the nuns were wonderful. They remembered me and my antics , even years later and they were still laughing
I love the podcast it keeps me inspired! I decided to make the shawl after seeing your podcast. I want t give thanks to my first grade teacher Mrs. Allard I truly loved her and think of her often. I had some health problems and she was so patient I can't think her enough.
Boundless appreciation to our tireless teachers--makers & shapers of the future, as well as the here & now. Funny thing Jackie, you mentioned your hair was driving you crazy, but you looked radiantly youthful with it tussled behind your ears. Caitlin, Knoxville becomes you. You are glowing!. Thank you both for the poetic pearls of wisdom & for the reminder that in times of distress, we can find peace in the soothing rhythm of the basics (ie, half & half garter stitch for miles shawl).
Love, hugs and support to all the teachers and students out there. As a parent of young children and an elementary school teacher myself, I feel the anxiety and nerves full force in the pit of my stomach but putting on a brave face with kind eyes for my students and my own children. It is new, it is unknown, we are brave, we will persevere. It’s ok to be scared, it’s ok to not be perfect. Go with grace and be safe!
To all the educators - thank you for your bravery and dedication in these uncertain times. You truly are essential and our families appreciate all you do!
I can’t help but think of my favorite teacher, Mrs Edman. She gave me the kindness, attention, and approval I needed after suffering grief, humiliation, and loss of confidence from having been held back a grade due to a learning disability. I will always be grateful to her.
I have missed you! I’ve been watching your channel from the beginning, since I discovered you. Your creations and talent are so inspirational. Thank you for continuing to podcast through these difficult times.
I retired after 38 years as an educator - classroom teacher, site/district administrator and college professor. This year, my two oldest grandsons are doing school at my house while my daughter and her husband teach their classes from their house. My grandsons’ teachers are doing an amazing job and my daughter and her husband are working so hard to help their students learn. I am so grateful for all of the hardworking educators out there!
I will always remember my art teachers - especially Ellie Miller from my Catholic high school. She encouraged us to explore art in the less traditional sense which was a unique experience in a our strict school setting. More than forty years later, I still feel the effects of that lesson. Teachers do so much more than teach you how to do something; they can guide you to places you never knew existed with their encouragement and kind intentions. I am beyond grateful.
I love teachers. They are so important in helping our children and ourselves grow up. The teachers I know are such caring, hard working people. I wish teachers and students the best fall possible during this incredibly difficult time.
Love to all the teachers out there! Your incredible creativity and inventiveness will get you through this. Jackie, I will also be test knitting the new shawl for Natasja Hornby...my first test knit. I'm super excited about that, and even moreso knowing that you and Debi will be on the testing crew. I've been binge watching your podcast since I heard about it a couple of weeks ago. So fun!
“Don’t Hesitate” by Mary Oliver
If you suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy,
don’t hesitate. Give in to it. There are plenty
of lives and whole towns destroyed or about
to be. We are not wise, and not very often
kind. And much can never be redeemed.
Still, life has some possibility left. Perhaps this
is its way of fighting back, that sometimes
something happens better than all the riches
or power in the world. It could be anything,
but very likely you notice it in the instant
when love begins. Anyway, that’s often the
case. Anyway, whatever it is, don’t be afraid
of its plenty. Joy is not made to be a crumb.
Love you!
I see that too... our students rising to the challenge. They inspire me every day.
What a sweet story! 🦋
Teachers make such an important, lasting impact and I'm endlessly grateful for the incredible ones who have shaped mine.
beautiful advice 🥰
God bless you
For doing what you do.
God bless all of our educators! You are now, and have always been, the heroes who educate and nurture our children. Hats off to you!
Thank you for another inspiring podcast, favorite girls. xxx
You’re welcome! 😘😘😘
Teacher appreciation gifts this year should be marvelous!! Thanks, educators, for all you do. You’ve got this!
What a wonderful story 🥰
Thank you. Honestly, I get teary-eyed thinking of her. She left an imprint in my heart ❤ forever lasting.
Your son’s 6th grade teacher... 🥰🥰🥰 sounds like your boys have an incredible mama too! ❤️
I’m almost 74 years old and still remember my kind 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Bennett. ❤️
Many thanks to every teacher and all the support staff! Praying for a safe year for them all!
Welcome Mary Beth! Thanks for joining us here. 🥰
Love this! 🥰
I am so thankful and grateful for all of the incredible teachers! Thank you for all that you do for our children!
Thank you thank you thank you
😘😘😘
Hugs
Grief: nothing to fix, just such loving patience for your dear heart. So sorry. Hope love is finding new ways to find you each day.
Love your podcasts. Thank you for all the inspiration. Don’t change a thing!
WOW! Purl SOHO is amazing and so are all those wonderful, dedicated teachers... they are not just there for their students, thhey are helping all of us get back to normal. Thank you more than ever
I just want to say a huge THANK YOU to all educators and support staff. I can’t even imagine the stresses dumped down on all. Blessings to you all. 💕
Thank you, educators, for your dedication, patience and care for your students!
Hi, I am watching you from Val-Morin QC Canada . Love watching you! So many beautiful projects! 😍thank you!
What a loss, and what blessings too. And so grateful for our new teachers. Wishing her (and you) the very best! 🥰
Hope that you have a beautiful week!
what a beautiful tribute to your mom... thank you for sharing her with us. 🥰 wishing you well too!
I have two middle schoolers and I am so grateful to all of the teachers who are working to create a safe space. xoxo
Hats off to all the teachers! You are working in unprecedented times. Keep up all the hard work!
Welcome Judy!
Thank you for another lovely podcast!
A couple of teachers that definitely made an impact on me Mrs.Steinbreck and Mr Dunn
It was so great to listen to all of you. Thanks for your words of wisdom and entertainment!
Beautiful 🥰
Thankful for the teachers. They make such an impression on people’s lives. My mother taught for 35 years.
Cady Jax Knits Thank you, Jackie!!💜💜
You make a difference. You may never know how you influence others. How that little extra part of yourself may effect/change a life. You are the butterflies and the wings you flap can change history. My working life of over 25 years let me see how much teachers impact their students. The amazing teachers I have witnessed may never know what their little acts of kindness did but their recipients will never forget.
we all have that capacity... thank you for the reminder. 🥰
❤️❤️❤️ Mrs. Edman... and you
I have missed you!
So fun!
Teachers are so special. They don’t only teach our children out of a book they also teach them about life. Be safe every day!!
I'm filled with admiration for all the teachers who are so committed their students' wellbeing. Thank you so much!
