What an exciting match! Tiafoe and Shelton’s play styles match up well. Ben Shelton was referring to creating positive archetypes for groups of people whose members make up a small percentage of professional tennis players (and tennis in general). It’s good to generate new and positive archetypes for cultural or ethnic groups. It’s good for all people. Tiafoe blamed Shelton jokingly “damn you Shelton” or something like that. Ben's massive serve and better movement made the difference today, with a very consistent backhand also helping. Quite a classy speech from Ben after Tiafoe's playful "screw you, Ben". Shelton is 275 ATP points away from overtaking Fritz (who was just dumped by Musetti in the first round of Monte Carlo) in the rankings as the top US player, with barely any points to defend until the US Open. He's 1000 points from entering the top 10 and repeating his awesome 2023 US Open run won't be easy, so he would have to go deep at Wimby to reach that milestone. Every guy (excluding maybe Nole) loves Ben on tour. He has a ton of friends on tour. Always gives love at the net to some degree. And you can see his passion for tennis every time he plays. So wtf is the problem?
@@ivanhall6482When you rise here comes the FLIES. Hating MOFOs can't help themselves.
Hey lets not bring up facts......many "fans" (of what?) are happy just saying whatever. (I couldn't agree with you more)
I'd be happy regardless of who won this match because both of these guys are entertaining and humble. 💪
That speech tho 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
Good you did it,vamos Ben ❤🎾
What an exciting match! Tiafoe and Shelton’s play styles match up well.
Ben Shelton was referring to creating positive archetypes for groups of people whose members make up a small percentage of professional tennis players (and tennis in general).
It’s good to generate new and positive archetypes for cultural or ethnic groups. It’s good for all people.
Tiafoe blamed Shelton jokingly “damn you Shelton” or something like that. And mentioned his 3 atp trophies? Or is that just clay courts? See if he can continue at a high level and lower errors for trophy #4.
My criticism in both Shelton and Tiafoe’s speeches is that they didn’t say very much about each other’s tennis.
I know that it’s still long way away but I’d really be surprised if Ben Shelton did not make a deep run at Wimbledon
Love everthing about Ben other than his high pitched Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Well done young Shelton
Ben is the new Hope of the American Tennis
Whooa . He won a 250 tournament 🎉
I dont think so
@@Mangoshake2021and a 500
@@saami9606 Japan ? That should be a 250 at best
@@Mangoshake2021Most of the top 10 have 250,500's . Even Sinner and he's been on the pro circuit for several years. Just won his first GS and second 1000. It takes time.
strange match, more like a training session or warm-up... both players simply switched off at key moments in the sets. We played in the middle of the court and didn’t aggravate things at all. There was no feeling of adrenaline or intensity
Shelton winning in clay in Houston...Hurkacz winning in clay in Estoril...Berrettini winning in clay in Marrakech, waht's going on here?
Serve is King!
Honestly all 3 who I wanted to win. The WTA had some great matches too
Teeny Berret has always been good on the organic surfaces (grass & clay), so no surprise there. Happy for Collins, Shelton, & Hubi! It's exciting to see different people win.
Congrats to the bright, shining star, Mr. Ben Shelton, who's only getting better & better. Overall "game" throughout this match & classy trophy speech, on point. Perhaps Tiafoe's speech was edited & the part where he congratulated Shelton was omitted. "Screw you" certainly wasn't it, although the crowd laughed it up. Great job, Tiafoe, but humility is a beautiful thing. You're not going to win every match & you know that. Indeed, your "good friend" played lights out tennis & won. Again, well done & congrats, Ben Shelton!
Glückwunsch Shelton 🏆
This clay court seems faster than many hardcourts
It plays like a hard court because It's natural, red dirt clay from the South not manufactured crushed up and dyed bricks like in Europe.
insane final
i really hope Ben develops some consistency in his game so he can push players like Alcarez and Sinner.
Ben won the tournament as his 2nd title, is Top 14 in the world, & has already shown he can beat Sinner at a Masters.
@@got2bjoshwhilst Ben is bloody good, his sinner win came right after sinner won a hard title ending in a grueling match against medvedev, it’s a good result but it’s not the same as a win on the sinner who’s won 3 titles this year
@@turntech4776yet there very next match was a close scoreline. I will admit, Sinner is on another planey, but its not out of the relm of possibility that Shelton can beat him. Need to perfect parts of his game but defo doable

I know Shelton has his fair share of haters but he's the future of men's US tennis and I wish him all the success.
new sheriff in town to lead American Mens tennis.
Haha, he won a atp 250 😂
@Mangoshake2021 99% of players never win a challenger let alone an ATP 250. And him and Tommy Paul have been the most consistent and growth mindset Americans in a long time
Novak still beat Shelton ass easily. Shelton is no alcarez or sinner. I’m black but hate when black people only watch tennis because a black or mixed race player is playing and knows nothing about the sport, embarrassing.
Btw all men pro players hit hard , Shelton is winning baby tournaments. Sinner and Alcarez are winning the big ones. The last real black man to win a slam was Arthur Ashe in the 70s and the last mixed race man was yannick Noah at the French Open
@@JOdell-si8mqthis is a marathon not a race and stop with the race card lol
Shelton will be a top 10 player at most with the way he is playing but to break into top 5 or 3, its not easy for any americans in this era, will need to play 5 times better than he is playing now.
He's in his 2nd full year on tour. He's tracking very well so far.
@got2bjosh yea hope he doesn't turn out like shapovalov who once had potential but now we barely hear the name
@@kieran1990able Well, Shapo has only won 1 title & no 500, so....
the speed of that clay court in Houston is insane!! looks pretty much like a fast hard court! congrats Ben!!
US clay courts plays faster because they're made from harder, older, more stable, mountainous stone in Virginia. The same company provides the newer, softer, less stable brick for European clay tournaments.
@@got2bjosh so this tournament uses Har-Tru? isnt that green clay?
@@pablok2854 The Charleston green clay is from one type of naturally green mountainous stone. The Houston stone clay is maroon colored. The Euro brick clay is dyed.
Is this the first all black Atp Tournament Final in the history of tennis ??
Yeah, basically.
@jaydubb2005 Not at all because although Tiafoe is 100% African as his parents fled the Sierra Leone civil war, Shelton's mom was so-called white and it is obvious that his father has some so-called white ancestry just based on his appearance. I am trying to fight the notion that someone with some so-called white ancestry is "black." Like President OBAMA whose mother was Irish descended and he was raised by her side of the family.
@@vernonfrance2974 #lmao Nah, Tiafoe and Shelton are black. Things are just changing in the world of tennis. We might just see an all black Grand Slam Finals for the Men and Women this season. If not this season, definitely next season and many seasons to come. It's been a long time coming.
Shelton and Tiafoe is the best both champions
SHAME on the pathetic networks for NOT covering this tournament
So sick of the poor choices they make
For REAL. The erasure was mind-boggling given the level of tennis. They were covering Bogota on T2 instead of Houston. No top 10 players in the draw & the prize money is only $85K might have something to do with it. They have a long-standing deal with ESPN.
@dale3504 What are you complaining about? Peacock had snooze fests of car races and golf tournaments.
I remember many guys saying Shelton would be a bad guy and a player without any potential... that has only been a few months ago. Ain't that crazy?
This guy is getting closer to the top ten and his game still has a few flaws that he can and will eliminate. If he does, he will be able to compete with everybody. I still expect him to become a top five player and stay there for many years. Sinner seems to be in his own sphere, but Alcaraz will strike back. Medwedew and Zverev will be there for many years and maybe Rune will improve and get there, too.
Probably these guys will dominate the next five years. At least, as soon as Djokovic's body doesn't allow him to win big tournaments (maybe in one or two years).
He could also do some damage at the Olympics, depending on the luck of the draw and how much he can build up his game consistency.
After winning the Houston clay title, Ben Shelton is 13 in the ATP Live Rankings making him the top-ranked US male player. A new career high of 14, overall.
Clayton has arrived 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Happy for Ben but sad to see the recent decline of Tiafoe. It’s gonna be tough for him to taste the top 10 again.
Too busy running through coaches... again! They're not the issue. Frances is notorious for this.

Ben Shelton 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪😍😍😍😍😍😍♥️♥️♥️♥️
Without the phone antic, Shelton has significantly become quite likeable.
He was always likable. Comments pre-USO vouch for that. Lemmings freaked out & saw red because You-Know-Who told them to. Then karma got him good vis-a-vis ITIA pressure & young guns taking it to him more often. He started flopping after which people couldn't gloat incessantly which eventually led to a cooling of tempers. In the meantime, Ben kept focusing on improving his game and others spoke out more against the irrational vitriol online. Now, here we are.
@@got2bjosh I'm a tennis fan generally but the worst thing that's ever come out of tennis is you know who's fans. I hope they all melt away when he does.
Curious. This type of clay seems to be a little faster and having a lower bounce than regular red clay. Not a lot of balls above shoulder height. Red Har-Tru, I believe.
This is true American red dirt clay from the South. Not the crushed up, manufactured stuff from bricks used in Europe. It's natural, harder, and faster.
The European clay is far better. The American one is pretty average. Playability wise
@@aniguydude55 Both come from the same American company in Virginia. The clay they use for US (Charleston & Houston) is sourced from harder, much older mountainous stone that is sharper & holds its shape better making it more stable under foot. The draining system is also much better requiring less watering. The clay they use for Europe is made from newer, softer, less stable brick & requires more watering.
Tiafoe has really been a disappointment ever sense that big of winning against nadal in the us open
Very surprised
Nadal was injured ever since the Wimbledon match with the abdominal tear. It’s not like he beat “peak Nadal.” Expectations were set took high for him. He may have been ranked 10th for a couple of months, but he’s not a “Top 10 Player.”
Tiafool is out here changing coaches once again after only 4 months. I already told y'all he is notorious for being difficult to coach & yet he expects them to deliver the wins on a platter. You can't charge card your way to readymade success. Keep on sliding, Tiaflop.
@@got2bjosh You know him in person, his last coach was with him for over 5years, and you are lying.
@@ig6894 Child, please. Everything stated has already long been reported in tennis media. Many coaches have tried to improve Tiaflop's janky serve for YEARS to no avail. He was only with his MOST RECENT coach for 4 months. Tiafool just split with him. Try to keep up.

They are going to struggle on classic European clay but I hope I'm wrong
Is this brown clay a lot different? I’ve only ever played red or green clay.
Madrid & RG are hot & fast. Rome is the slowest. Minty Carload is medium speed.
@@sophieoshaughnessy9469 It's classic dirt red clay from the South. It's truer clay than the crushed brick stuff used in Europe. It's hard & fast, so Madrid & RG are the closest comparables.
I'd be worried about MC and Rome both being slightly slower and Rome being a little more damp. But I think Madrod will be a good view of how they will fair at RG. Ben being top 16 is great though for his seeding, just gotta hold onto that spot until RG. ❤
