Sophia Sweet same mines been growing out for months and I have an appointment with someone amazing next month. I had to tone it myself with shades eq because I didn’t wanna pay her to tone the mess she made.
Great color correction! When a at home made color goes wrong, it's so nice to tell your client it's gonna be alright. And then make an excellent balayage like this one. I love it!
It's so great how you explain every little detail and taking care of your client. Some cosmetologist just focus on lightening the hair, doesn't care if it's too over processed or breaking off just to lighten the hair which is truly risky. We need more people like you!
I color corrected a balayage rcently and did a few weaves of lowlights and Highlights where needed. It wasnt too bad. And then just highlighted the top. Came out beautiful!
Just happened to me too! Splotchy and not blended - AT ALL. Spent $369. Started getting worried during the appointment when the hairdresser told me she had 3 years off and had only been back in the salon for 2 months. Hoping I get someone more experienced when I go back in
I feel like placement and attention to the little details really makes the best color. Anyone who goes quickly on my hair I know it’s a bad sign. 😭 paying over 250$ to 300$ I don’t expect to walk out looking like I got an at home color. I can mess my own hair at home for cheap. 😂😂😂
I’m currently in school and this is so helpful so thank you And yes I’d like to see your lightners bc I do have a little trouble with picking the right vol
U did an amazing job! I’m a cosmetologist as well and love watching videos that show just how much talent and knowledge it truly takes to achieve these looks that people think they can replicate on there own.
Great job! The before and after are pretty stark and it's amazing to see the end results. The hair is so brassy and splotchy at the beginning of the video. A good example of what can go wrong if you DIY and are not super careful and prepared. No disrespect towards your profession but I've seen some amazing DIY on YT from many people who don't do this for a living.
Love love love 💗💗💗 I want that foil! It's nice and wide. Perfect for wider section isolation. The foil machine I use (24/7) , the foils are too narrow, so I end up doing double the amount of sections.😢. Great video. Beautiful result 💗💗
The begining looks like the hair got pulled through the cap! I have never bothered to look at the instructions that come with a"do it yourself" home balayage. Im curious as to how the manufacturer describes what to do. Lol. watching color correction videos! Everyone has a different approach & technique! Awesome job!!
Would you do this technique on someone that has hilights/lowlights and 2 inches level 6 regrowth. the client wants to be a lot lighter. Not sure what was used previously other than it was permanent lowlight. Thanks, you make it all look so easy and beautiful!
nice results. i was hoping you would have shown how you toned her hair. You mentioned that you used two formulas, one to tone the root area and one to tone the midshaft through ends. Could you please show/illustrate/describe exactly how that process was done?
This is so pretty. I’ve done chunky blonde highlights (with darkor medium brown) since forever. I’m thinking about doing balayage to avoid the extra dark growths line (with some greys) but I’m a little scared. I feel like it looks good on younger women, but I’m almost 40. Don’t know if it looks good on me. But you did a great job!
Go for it! You're fine. The great thing about this technique is that you don't get the awful grow out- it looks natural. (I'm coming up on 43. Know what you mean, having had my hair in so many colors & highlights/ chunk sizes...but am definitely trying to keep my look fresh, but 'age appropriate' - whatever that means.) It's like that moment you look at something in the store & think "that would look great on the 25yr old version on me. Haha (Or my 19 year old daughter!) The way I KNOW I've 'gotten there' is when I see the new shorts each year...seems like there's less material. 🤔 Probably just me though. I know we ALL wore shorter stuff that our Mamas did. Enjoy your hair, however you wear it.
Balayage has no age! It looks so natural, that it’s good for everyone! I’m a stylist too and I have medium copper brown hair at the moment, but in the summer I balayage in some amber lights and I’m 70 yrs old!!!
Hi Lexi! Great video & beautiful results! Have a couple of questions for you : I use Matrix color also but I'd like to try the Redken toners.. How long do the shades eq toners usually last? And what would you use to get a cooler caramel tone? Thanx!
Its looks great! I have a question. I have balayage but its not as light as I wanted (just looks like super dark overgrown root line with blonde ends). Is is possible to somehow lighten the roots to make the light colour even as I want to stay blonde? Is it even possible after balayage or highlights to come back to one color again?
Hello Lexi. I'm a hairstylist from Brazil, and I love your videos. Please, talk about the brush that you use in balayage, because it's different that we use hear. Thanks, 😘.
You know, it turns out looking 100% natural (like the hair is naturally colored that way) if you also use your hands and fingers (NO BRUSH) after you’ve painted it on. Paint it on, then take your hands and spread it out over the strands of hair and mesh it well into the root color with your fingers - then foil it. That way it has an effortless look and doesn’t look like they have purposely went and had it done it that way. Using the hands to meld both colors together where they meet makes it look effortless and natural (as if they were born with both hair colors simultaneously). Where the brown meets the blonde it should bleed together perfectly. You can see a separation here between the brown and blondish color, and it should look as though the brown perfectly transitions into the blonde (no lines, and no indicator of where the brown ends and the blonde begins). Look at celebrities foilyage hair and you’ll see what I’m talking about. It’s very simple actually and requires a bit of artistic effort in using the hands and fingers after brushing the bleach on and before foiling. School can only teach so much, it’s when we step outside the box that we become the best we can be! Never do things the robot way that the textbooks teach. Any great professional (high end) hairstylist will teach you that school just teaches you the basics so that you can perform the job, but the rest you learn in the field, and if you’re doing everything in the field the way you learned in school- then you will never rise above that level.
Just came across your videos today! I love them! I'm a stylist and you have some really good tips. I have one question, how long did this color take you?
The girl I went to today need some lessons on this. She totally did my hair wrong. I wanted my hair exactly like you just did hers and I got nothing like it.
Ok you had the semi color on her hair, then you started the lightener after the same time? Doesnt that turn your hair color different with bleach and color? Or it wont effect your ombre look?
It looks so good you did great! Question! My hair currently looks much like the before I went in and the lady just basically did a weave all the way through. But in a way that it looks like and older woman who has gone parts of her hair that are grey. It’s not chunks it’s literal strands ALL OVER! I was wanting a baliage now but I worry with how my hair has been processed if it’s safe to darken the roots, like you did, and then bleach it again. Let me know if you think that’s safe. She used a 40 developer
Beautiful like always. 😘 Can you give more detail on bringing the shadow color down... I always seem to leave lines am I using too much product? Or being too rough... I do use big comb.
+marlen Perez you might be using too much color and it gets on te comb so when you bring the comb through the blonde some of the color from the comb gets on the blonde. Honestly though it just takes trial and error to figure out what's best.
Love it!!! Please help!! I have a guest with very long thick hair. She wants a dark root level 4 almost 3 into icy white blonde! She's already blonde so the first tim did it I very carefully painted and combed to blend but there was still some spots that I had to go back and correct. Now she came a few months later for her follow up and I did what you did here painted the root and balayaged some bleach with it to bright some of the mid shaft blonde even more. Well that resulted in a warm gold area where the two met. I toned but it's not enough to transition from dark to white!!! She's coming back tonight for me to reapply the root and drag it down farther to cover the warm ring. Any recommendations on how to do this without getting spots on her white hair would be appreciated!!!😍😍
+joan Yeager the warmth is from where you put lightener over the previous root color. If you want that to be lighter just go over it again with lightener and maybe a higher developer. You just have o break through that previous color. Also let her know that with having such a dark base and wanting to get the blonde touched up she will have some warmth in there. It's almost impossible to lift a level 3 color (especially if it's permanent color) to a white blonde. I would recommend to either stop doing the roots so dark so that when you do go to touch up the blonde you don't have to go through such a dark color, or maybe do a more natural blonde color so you don't have the lift out the dark color as much. Hope this helps a little!
+Lexi Dawn it helps in the sense that I am right in everything I have told her this far!!! I painstakingly re painted the dark last night and drug it lower over the warm area. Then I toned her with the iciest color my color line has and left it 10 min. It worked for the most part and she was happy for now. But I could still see slight warmth and not as great of a blend as I would like but because of the high contrast I cannot come it or anything because it will spot on the blonde. Thank you so so much for responding, love your videos😘😘
asked for this and my hair is already very damaged at a salon and looked like her before. Almost 200 dollars and it is currently a mess and I have to wait to color again. Sucks to only have their hair up and being ashamed.
You don't mention times - how long is the first lot on for , lightner mixture??? then the toner and ends ??? Do you do the tone roots and also the toner ends at the same time or separate?
maybe i missed it but what would happen if you feathered the lightener on top of the color when it was possessing? I always worry if my root color gets touched by bleach it will mess up the result.
+CityFarmGirl the bleach will pretty much always eat through the color if it touches it. The only thing is is that the bleach that touches color won't lift as much as bleach that doesn't touch color.
If u had decided on any Redken formula for her root, maybe the 6N in beyond cover for extra pigmentation? Also r u in the process of switching over to matrix? Will u eventually stop using Redken? If so why? Sorry I know it’s a lot of questions lol. I just really admire u :)
+Christina Leal i use both redken and matrix. I use matrix for color and redken shades eq for toners. I don't use matrix toners often and I've only used shades eq in redken.
@ Lexi dawn; How long does it normally take you to do a full balayage process such as this? And on virgin hair? Do you have any tips when wanting to be a little faster? I never stop or slow down I have a great rhythm and get every strand and piece that needs to be done and blend and etc & i am fast. But I feel like with my long thick hair clients it just feels so long to finish going through the hair like I do super correctly and precise I just want to be faster. I know there are techniques and practice but coming from you, how long does it take you?
I work alone and sometimes have a hard time figuring out pricing for something like this, would you mind sharing what you charged? Also I was wondering how long this took you to do from start to finish? Thanks so much for this video it is one of the most helpful ones I've come across!
Sorry, I'm in the process of learning howto creatively use toners so just wanted clarification. When you said you used 8v, 9v and 9n on her mid/ends you just mixed them together and then combed them through to the ends? is that how you got that dimension that i'm seeing in the after shots or is that just the different levels of lightness through her hair?
+Christina Quach both! I mixed them all together and applied that mixture all over her hair. The darker piece will take a little different to the toner then the lighter pieces would and that’s why you have the dimensions!
Random question, how would you blend the root color if their blonde hair was super damaged and even lightener with 10 vol wouldn’t be an option? If you ever get that type of client could you do a tutorial?
yes i for sure will! You can use a comb and really blend the transition area. i went over with lightener because she wanted to be a little brighter and make it look natural.
So did you leave the root color on while you applied your balayage? What happens when the root color and the lightener mix? I’d be scared of banding and added warmth
+Olivia Wolfley yes I did. There will always be a little warmth where the hit but you can tone that out. And if you apply the lightener right there shouldn’t be any banding.
My hairdresser did it well and the caramel shades look very nice at the bottom but the top part of the head is too light since she decoloured larger locks. We went to blonde first but I asked to go darker since the colour looked like a strange yellow she was a bit baffled but she did it. Maybe I just need more time and I really think that people should be aware they might be disappointed at first since they never saw that colour on themselves.
I know!! &my hair is still the way I had it done at the hair salon! 😂 I need to get it corrected by you. 💕 I don't even want anyone to touch my hair and try and do it the way I want lol
i literally paid almost 300 dollars on my balayage at a professional salon and it turned out how her before looked
Same. So sick of crappy hair salon experiences and wasting money. Never again
Sophia Sweet Same but I complained and they fixed it for free. I can go outside with it now but it still looks kinda crappy.
Sophia Sweet go ask them to fix it
Sophia Sweet same mines been growing out for months and I have an appointment with someone amazing next month. I had to tone it myself with shades eq because I didn’t wanna pay her to tone the mess she made.
And I did go back and have her root smudge the awful hot roots 🙄 that’s all I had her fix tho.
Great color correction! When a at home made color goes wrong, it's so nice to tell your client it's gonna be alright. And then make an excellent balayage like this one. I love it!
+Rossamela thank you!

I love that you said toner magic! I have to do that quite a bit with balayage. It looks great!
Just spend 240 on my balayage and it came out kind of streaky and orangy /: wish I had you here.
Ma Jolie same
Ma Jolie that happened to me too. Having another appointment today so hopefully it turns out better loll
Mine too :0((( fingers crossed will be fixed in a few days
Just happened to me too! Splotchy and not blended - AT ALL. Spent $369. Started getting worried during the appointment when the hairdresser told me she had 3 years off and had only been back in the salon for 2 months. Hoping I get someone more experienced when I go back in
Same. We’re all in this together ladies 🥴
Its amazing how fast you work and how good it turns out. Efficient and perfect color!
+Patricia H thank you dear!
You are totally Awesome Lexi!!! Thank you for giving details on descript!!! Great Work on hair!!! Total Save!
Love the results! Watched again this morning to get inspired. I’ve got an Ombré Balayage on the books this morning! Thank you!
I feel like placement and attention to the little details really makes the best color. Anyone who goes quickly on my hair I know it’s a bad sign. 😭 paying over 250$ to 300$ I don’t expect to walk out looking like I got an at home color. I can mess my own hair at home for cheap. 😂😂😂
Omg. I sooooooooo need YOU in my life. Come to Fla.
After me hahaaa :D
I absolutely love that you use Logics!!!! I thought i was the only nut who loved using it!!!!! Subscribed!!!
I love that you include the formula in the description box, thank you for doing that
I’m currently in school and this is so helpful so thank you And yes I’d like to see your lightners bc I do have a little trouble with picking the right vol
Love the transformation! Plus I like how you work... simple, easy, and straight to the point.
+Josie Evans thank you so much Josie!
U did an amazing job! I’m a cosmetologist as well and love watching videos that show just how much talent and knowledge it truly takes to achieve these looks that people think they can replicate on there own.
Absolutely LOVE your work Lexi!!!!😍
I didn't think it looked that bad till I saw the " after" much better.
Great technique!! Ima try it 🤔🤞🏼hope it looks this nice 👍
Lol...its a shame you don't have a "lot of grey clients!" We tip really well.
Well go to her then?
In the industry (So Cal and PNW) we call grey clients “bread and butter” cause they will be sure to come in every 4-6 weeks for a root touch up.
Wendy Winston my thoughts totally! I’m a stylist and that was just a poor choice of words!
Emma E play nice dear!
JonScottWontStop 👍🏻very well said !!
OMG Lexi you really fixed her hair great job man it looks amazing I had to watch this video 2xs
Espy Hernandez I had to watch twice too is a great job done
Hey Lexi... I loved the technique on this one. Came out amazing. Nice job.
I was amazed a 6 N turned out so nice !!!! Matrix Demi or semi ( no ammonia) no gold Lift . Thank you nice color repair 🤗
How have I never seen this technique? I have a client's coming in tomorrow and I'm super confused on how to go about her hair. This definitely helped.
You’re so helpful thanks for posting and sharing what you used. Love your techniques
+Gabriela Arellano im so glad I could help!
Looks so beautiful good job!
Thank you so much. Did this to my sister and it turned out looking professional. I am not a hairdresser but my mom is and grew up in a salon
Wow hair goals ! Stunning x
Great job! The before and after are pretty stark and it's amazing to see the end results. The hair is so brassy and splotchy at the beginning of the video. Love love love 💗💗💗
I want that foil! It's nice and wide. Perfect for wider section isolation. The foil machine I use (24/7) , the foils are too narrow, so I end up doing double the amount of sections.😢. Great video. Beautiful result 💗💗
Pauly J Gunn I’m watching this a year later... I buy foil at Sams club... the kind for food. Rip them in half... they are awesome!
Love how you explain so well x
nice results. i was hoping you would have shown how you toned her hair. You mentioned that you used two formulas, one to tone the root area and one to tone the midshaft through ends. Could you please show/illustrate/describe exactly how that process was done?
ive done the same technique just with different tones in many of my other videos so if you wanted to check some of those out feel free!
How beautifull!!!! Bravo Lexi!!!
Where did you get your wood and metal cart it’s so cute.
It turned out so amazing, You did Magic.
Know what you mean, having had my hair in so many colors & highlights/ chunk sizes...but am definitely trying to keep my look fresh, but 'age appropriate' - whatever that means.)
It's like that moment you look at something in the store & think "that would look great on the 25yr old version on me.
Love your work!! Your a wonderful artist 👍♥️
thanks :)
You are the Goat!!!!!! Love this correction
Love the end result. In my understanding this is a foilage and if some stylists leave dark pieces I believe if for dimension and a more natural look
Correct me if I'm wrong. I love your work btw
This is a gorgeous color correction!
+Jess Hunt thanks Jess!
What did you use for your lighter/balayage? I love it.
Hi Lexi!
Great video & beautiful results!
Have a couple of questions for you : I use Matrix color also but I'd like to try the Redken toners.. How long do the shades eq toners usually last? And what would you use to get a cooler caramel tone?
Thanx!
+P Im about to make a q and a video so I will answer that question in the video!
Lexi Dawn
Thank You! 😉
Just beautiful. .great color correction video... I love your new salon.. did you move?
+Frico1964 thank you! I've been at this salon since last February so coming up on a year!
really nice....love you technique...you keep it simple
Beautiful. How does she stop the color from going down the drain after she washes it?
I loooove it!!!!
Hello Lexi. I'm a hairstylist from Brazil, and I love your videos. Please, talk about the brush that you use in balayage, because it's different that we use hear. Thanks, 😘.
I'm not sure if you mentioned this in your video but what developer strength did you use with the lightener?
+Anneliese Canna I used 20vol with redken ph bonder in it!
That is lovely!!!!! 😍

Just came across your videos today! I love them! I'm a stylist and you have some really good tips. I have one question, how long did this color take you?
hi! welcome to my channel! this process took about 2 and a half to 3 hours
Beautiful job!!

I need you in my life!!!!
Beautiful like always. 😘 Can you give more detail on bringing the shadow color down... I always seem to leave lines am I using too much product? Or being too rough... I do use big comb.

Thank you so so much for responding, love your videos😘😘
Omg it's sooo pretty!!! WOW
+Jordan Williams thank you!
You are a brilliant artist keep up the good work 👍

What if you used a shades root color instead like 6T, would feathering through the root go better than with a permanent color?
@@LexiDawnMcc
i love the process.. i see it the good sectioning. step by step.
Beautiful! What type of brush were you using for the balayage? And noticed you weren't using a regular color brush.
+bethany sagath they are called chip brushes and are usually used for painting! You can find them at a craft or art store
How do I describe that I want this type balayage to my hairdresser? It looks really lovely :)
Can I do this if I only have a toner for the lightened hair ? I don’t have a root toner .

@ lexi dawn I'm sorry nevermind I just read where u said 2 hours in a comment!! thank you for mentioning that previously!
Finally a good tutorial! This is how I do it. Good job! ❤️
can you tell me what are the mid/ends toner equivalent from wella
nice to see you again lexi!can you please tell me the developer you used for the root color of the semipermanet color!
+Lewnidas Orfanos i used 10vol
I work alone and sometimes have a hard time figuring out pricing for something like this, would you mind sharing what you charged? Also I was wondering how long this took you to do from start to finish? Thanks so much for this video it is one of the most helpful ones I've come across!
+Dezi Broyles I talk about my pricing a little in my latest q and a video up on my channel. This process took me about 2 hours to complete.
Lexi Dawn thanks I will check it out
@lexi dawn did u wash the black out before doing the belayage?
did you use Root toner: shades eq 7p, 7n
Mid/Ends toner: shades eq 8V, 9v, 9n, together in one process?
Ann L yup.
I do have grays and have never found a demi permanent hair color that covered like I needed it to cover
i used logics for years and their demi line covers grays
Amazing Video you are fab :) learnt so much from this xxx
+Zoo Alzyy thanks!!
Good job lexi
So did you leave the root color on while you applied your balayage? What happens when the root color and the lightener mix? I’d be scared of banding and added warmth
+Olivia Wolfley yes I did. There will always be a little warmth where the hit but you can tone that out. And if you apply the lightener right there shouldn’t be any banding.
Great technique. Love your video
Gorgeous great job!
Amazing....as per usual 😃
+Pamela Gentry thank you!
Holy crap you killed it!
Beautiful where did you get that cart from?
+A D Home goods!
You're so awesome lexi. I love your work😉 💕 😇 I need to come see you sometime. 👀
