for example, obsidian has a strength of 50.
that means a variable that starts at 0 will go up by 1 when you break it with your fist.
and when it reaches 50, it drops.
bedrock has a strength of -1.
how do you get to -1?
when the variable reaches 2147483647, it cannot go any higher, and the variable resets to -2147483647.
then it continues to go up.
-2147483646, -2147483645, -2147483645...
until you reach -1.
then, bedrock breaks.
