The last few months have seen some insane growth when it comes to Pokemon Card Prices. Sword and Shield era booster boxes began getting tons of attention and ignited a rewed interest in Pokemon Card Collecting. After Pokemon Card Booster Boxes, it seemed it was time for Alternate Art Pokemon Cards to see giant price growth. Several of these Pokemon Cards saw double digit price growth over the span of just a couple of months with some of them even doubling in price.
As it became harder and harder to find Sword and Shield era products, it seems Pokemon Card Collectors have now transitioned their focus to some areas of the Scarlet and Violet Generation. Many Illustration Rare and Special Illustration Rares are also garnering a lot of attention over the past couple months with some of them almost doubling in price. These Pokemon Card price gains coupled with Competitive Pokemon Cards reaching new heights has the Pokemon Card Market going completely crazy! Is there an end in sight? Let's talk about it!

The SIR Carmine has gone completely off the rails. The cheapest one on TCGplayer at the moment is like $180
Yea because youtubers were telling people to start buying since the prices were low.
I would buy the AR in Japanese if you love the arts, Tyranitar, Raichu and Groudon are like 20% of the English value for example!

That’s what I’ve been doing for the last few sets. If you get in early you can get every illustration rare for about the cost of an ETB
Yep, that's what I do. I buy the full AR sets for like $25-36 per 12 card set. That's about half a box of JP.
With all the new sets I usually buy the whole AR set in Japanese for the cost savings and quality. I don’t play the tcg so it’s all about the artwork for me.
Just bought a bundle of the year and Groudon on eBay for 7$. Very nice i have them next to each other in my binder since they're by the same artist.
I barely started collecting. My best cards are English 151 Erika sar and Zapdos sar

Biggest advice I can give is go for singles and if u do open packs do it for the fun side although I have had great hits from packs it’s pretty much like buying a scratch off like ur still gonna lose in the long term

Ah, reminding me of night march. That’s the deck that made me quit playing the pokemon card game for good.
Not that it was too OP, but the playstyle and play time of digging through your entire deck in one turn, made me realize that the gameplay isn’t my style.
But I happily collect for the art still, lol.
It was a very weird format with Night March. But now looking back on it, it doesn’t bother me as much

My opinion is that the Pokémon company is releasing too many sets at one time and once they are on the shelves there will be less people buying these new sets. There is only one card I am looking for in this set and that is the carmine SAR full art

Is it really that unpredictable if content creators were actively pushing people to buy Paldea Evolved products? Especially the idea of high demand = higher price to compensate demand. Odds are the set is being overhyped.

my buddy already has a sick dragapult deck. uses rotom v and a good amount of items to get his stage 1s out asap. then use the stage one to pull out the dragapult. earthen vessel the energy. not clunky at all. he's fully setup by turn 3 or 4 latest

it is really amazing how these cards are climbing. I am hoping for a good showing from Raging Bolt and also Bloodmoon Ursaluna. Also the art works on the ones from Paldea Evolved are on another level.
I kinda love how the playability of the cards affects the price of the cards and creates wildness in the collecting market.
It’s an exciting time to be involved in collecting and/or playing the TCG! maybe that’s why the popularity!
The new theme seems like don’t buy right away but also don’t wait to long.
We will have to wait and see how these prices change
Like Danny says if you’re ever feeling overwhelmed from the hobby it’s ok to take a step back. I’ve done it before but the Pokémon company is fishing with a super rod and I’m the magikarp that bites again and again😅

I watched the regular raging bolt ex go from $1.65 to $7 overnight a popular creator was streaming with the deck and doing very well I knew as soon as the vod dropped the price would go up
I still think/hope things will cooldown if SV can produce a banger set. The Paradise Dragona/Pikachu set I think has potential
I'm not sick of this it's part of the hobby enjoy it and have fun. Sometimes we make money on cards sometimes we loose money.
Recently, any time I rip into any of the sets these cards are in I get completely rekt. It feels bad, man.
So true! Take a look at some of those Temporal Forces IR. I think a few of them are at what will be their lowest points. Metagross, Shiftry, Arbok, etc... are a fraction of what they will be in 6-12 months. Will be an easy flip once hype builds on them. Plus such a safe investment you can literally already flip depending on where you sell for $1-2/card💰💰💰
I think the groudon and tyranitar ir heavily resembles Godzilla, I love both!

when the sw/sh alt art craze started, i couldnt afford it but i loved all the sv art rares and started collecting them. glad to see they are getting some love
I'm new and i have such a lame question for anyone to help..... where can i find a set list that shows me the different versions available for each card? Like how do I know if there is a holo version or a foil version of each card? Maybe some cards dont even have a regular non foil or non holo version? Every site I see online just shows the cards... (guess i also need to figure out the diff between holo, foil, etc)... but I'm interested in having complete base sets. For instance, with Ceruledge in Paldean Fates (PAF 040/091) I have holo and foil cards (i think) but I dont have a regular version (without anything special applied to the card)..... is there a regular version? :(It's frustrating that Im so clueless 🤷)

Would touch any Scarlet and Violet at prices now, reprints will destroy any profit and we all know they will reprint the life out of it.
While thats always a possibility, Pokemon is heavily reducing print runs, so not be surprised if there is reprint it will be very minuscule. We are not in the SWSH covid era anymore

I have struggled so hard on tcglive since the new set came out. I cant seem to figure out how to make a new deck work and the new decks have me all figured out 😂
Pulled Iron Crown SIR from 3 random packs at my LCS and was like, well then.....now what lol.
Had a similar experience with Paldea Evolved pulling the Iono SIR on my first pack which at the time was the most expensive card in the set. I have since opened about 10 more and landed the Riachu IR but the Magikarp eludes me but not complaining for just 10 packs I did alright. Likely I won't open too many more PE so my collection is likely to remain karpless. That's ok though I learned a long time ago that Pokemon isn't designed anymore for the average collector to be able to catch em all. One would need to have 10-15 thousand dollars of spare income every two months in order to accomplish that feat. Gotta catch em all is an outdated and ridiculous catch phrase in today's world of Pokemon card collecting. It is an outrageous and mostly unrealistic expectation for most of us and the sooner one realizes that and adjusts their expectations and card collecting goals the better off you will be.

I personally like that there is such a big market for trading cards, allows me to be an adult in the hobby and still make money so I can continually invest and not go bankrupt, if you wanna collect just to collect you can still do that. No one’s stopping you.

Raging bolt manipulation was so blatant. Sold 14 times one day then 60 the next
NO MANIPULATION!! The card is vital to one of the best current decks now that Teal Mask Ogerpon is available.
People need 3-4 copies, it's in demand. The deck is about 10-20% of current meta.

@@frameandi its still manipulation lol. It should have been a more gradual increase. It was bought out and relisted for $120. You'd expect it to go from 60, to 70, 80 etc. Ive been watching this card closely, it didnt. Its why you will see it come back down over the next month.

I think some of them will retrace for sure. The illustration rares may climb more before retracing. The competitive cards will definitely fall when no longer viable
