Obvious flowering takes energy away from growing new roots and leaves, but the orchid in the video had no flowers and only a flower spike. Your wife is right, and I'd keep it on so it can do photosynthesis and contribute energy to growing roots.

People......He lives in a tropical climate where is humid and sunny all day..... the results will be different for you if you live in Canada or USA. I live in a Zone 6 in Canada and my orchid have never flower for me and only has 4 leaves. It needs lots and lots of sun filtered or indirect which I don't get here in Canada during the winter months.
I am in southern Ontario, Canada. I have 7 orchids and they all bloom profusely every year, usually for several months at a time. Mine receive plenty of Indirect light, are growing in regular potting soil (not moss), I water thoroughly but infrequently, always put a little fertilizer in the water, and I let them spend the summer on the covered porch.
Why don't you try cymbidium orchids. They prefer cooler climates than the tropic or most of the subtropical areas of the world. Indirect sun facing south in the Northern Hemisphere. Their flower spikes are fantastic with up to 15 flowers on each. And weak fertilizing is best - strong fertilizers will kill orchids.
Yes it can get flowers....I work here in Germany for an old lady. Every week she waters her orchids with black tea. And she keeps them over the hearing. They bloom 2 x a year. When they do not bloom she puts the orchid in a cooler place, where she sleeps. It works

They care about how many followers they have on their channels. They will never tell us what they really us for orchids. Otherwise how they succeed every time. I think they are Lying to us.
The nutrients in the rice water, the moisture & the disinfecting properties of cinnamon. Cinnamon powdered & shaken in the top of the soil will also kill off fungus gnats on the surface of plant soil 🪴 They also treat rotted stumps of roots with crushed 🧄 garlic water, after the rot is removed back to healthy plant tissue
Why not combine all the different ingredients… garlic, banana peels, rice, onion, cinnamon, etc. If each is good separately then why not combine them? 5:04
Well in the wild orchid dont need that kind of food u give....just try to make a similar environment..tempt like in d wild... Ex: they love live stick on a tree with a good shade...a bit sun not directly...try to turn off the ligjt in the nigthtime...good circulation and good tempt between 27-30celcius..always damp soil or moss etc...when its finish flower..dont cut all wait till aweek..there will be a sprout..then cut above the sprout..it will has flower again....

Orchids are better to be under watered. They can survive 3 months without water, but with too much water, their roots rot and die. The roots need ventilation and airflow as epiphytes. They will die if smothered in thick medium wet with water. The roots turn silvery and pale when thirsty. And medium must be entirely dry before watering. Watering on a set schedule isn't good. Watering based on appearance of thirst and dry medium is best.

I lost 2 fingers in a chainsaw accident a few years ago. Since using rice water with a teaspoon of cinnamon powder they are starting to regrow 🙏🏻

Needs to be grade a sushi rice for orchids. Other rices will not work
