Bossa Nova Guitar - Triste - Jazz Telecaster (Fingerstyle Chord Melody)

- Solo jazz guitar version of "Triste". It's a lesser-known bossa nova song, but there's definitely more to this latin jazz genre than "The Girl From Ipanema" or "Desafinado". The song was originally written by Antônio Carlos Jobim, the progenitor of the genre. Here, I tried to emphasize the unique rhythm of bossa nova, while introducing some chord inversions in the second repetition-- all using the fingerstyle chord melody approach.
Hope you enjoy my version of Jobim's "Triste"!
TITLE: Triste
YEAR: 1966
COMPOSER: Antônio Carlos Jobim
Exactly what I've been looking for. I used to play chord melody style back in the day. It's still what I hear in my head in spite of years of rock n' raunch n' roll. Bless you for sharing your sounds 🎶🎶🥰
Thank you so much for checking out the video! Hope you keep listening :)
Really enjoy your playing
Thanks, Michael!
Очень здорово! Звук такой мягкий и прозрачный одновременно. И исполнение талантливое.
Glad you liked it! Appreciate your words about the tone
Just beautiful. Makes me want to learn more about Bossa Nova.
Bossa Nova is the best!
I prefer a Tele on the neck pickup to any Hollow.
It’s definitely cheaper and sturdier! That said, I have been eyeing an Eastman
@@MadeulPlaysGuitarI’m sure you could do it justice!
@@victorwong9622 One day...!
@@MadeulPlaysGuitar Actually, you're just making all of us want to buy a Tele!!
Awesome playing man!
Thank you!
Lovely. Great tone too.
Thanks Terence!!
Love it. Going to have to put this one on the list...
Awesome :) Glad you like it!

You amaze me
Thank you Michael!
Lovely. Thanks for sharing it.
Glad you liked it!
Smooth guy 🤝
Sorry for the belated response... Love you comment!
Great work!
Do you work out your own arrangements, or do you play from sheet music?
Hi! I work out my own arrangements- the more recent videos are pretty much improvised
fire
Thanks APLE 🔥🔥
Great! Thanks for sharing the insight on your intepretation. Regarding your Ron Kirn-caster, how is it specced up? It doesn't look like his usual barncaster.
I swapped out the original pickups for Seymour Duncan Vintage Stack Tele (noiseless). I also use flatwound .012 (Thomastik-Infed JS112). But probably the main visual change comes from the time where I burned off the finish on a whim…
Hi, What pickups are u using here?
SD vintage stack!
I love the look of that telecaster body. Did you buy it like that or do it yourself? If you bought it where’d you buy it from. Also, you sound great!
Thanks! It’s a Ron Kirn Barnbuster. I burnt and sanded the body myself, but I think there are artists who can do that for you
@@MadeulPlaysGuitar so, the process was burn, sand, and finish in that order? Did you put some sort of sealer on it or is that body just raw? Im thinking about trying this with a swamp ash body
Ah sorry for the late response- replies of replies don’t show up on my dashboard. The body is just raw, which is probably not a good idea, but it has held up after years of bedroom playing.
Good luck, but I cannot guarantee good or even non-catastrophic results 😳
Triste is a real chord monster but you have conquered it so well done.
The changes are a bit complex! Glad to hear you liked it!
Wonderful! What amp are you playing through?
Hi! I think for this video I probably just used Logic’s amp sim.
Sound so beautiful, what gauge of string you use ?
Great to hear that! I use Thomastik-Infeld JS012
Absolutely stunning, congrats!
Thanks!
Belíssimo! Muito obrigado pela bela interpretação
Thank you for your kind words!!
Beautiful playing, gorgeous guitar and tone.
Great to hear! Thanks for checking out the channel :)
How to get a tone like you? Tell me pls
The guitar sound has mostly to do with thicker flatwounds (I use 11s from Thomastik-Infeld). On the amp I would boost the mids and kill bass/treble
Nice playing ‼️
Thanks again!!!
❤❤❤❤
Haha thanks!
