    I got feeling that Hugo will die before middle part of the movie, and if you watch Rosa Salazar's interview, she said that this movie have jumping timeline between years thru Alita's life.

      I worry about such things as this can seriously mess up the movie. Each arc has a reason for it being a certain length and order. If they just cut jump from one arc to another, it can end up being a disaster. I really hope this does not happen as I really want BAA to become a cinematic franchise...a successful one at that.

    It seems the motorball sequences are taking inspiration from the old 3d animation someone did.

    Well, many things are clarified in the Alita: Battle Angel: Iron City book, it's surprising to learn that there are so many adaptations and changes made that it could make it an entirely different story.

      Thanks for thin information! I didn't even realize such a book existed as I have only been following the main comic (the most recent events in Mar's Chronicle are just so disturbing). I notice the story is not by Yukito Kishiro. Is this considered canon?

    If Gally is going to be a motor ball player so early, will she still be a hunter-warrior? Is there time/room for that in the movie? Seems like having two professions is a bit too much.
    I really wish they didn't include the motorball in the movie, it's too much story for 1 movie and it will lead to watering down the content. I'll be sad if they don't include Makaku's full story (and it does look that way). So I hope that motorball is just something "in the background" and that she just participates in 1 match for whatever reason, maybe a way to get to Vector or so.
    About Makaku, it looks like they'll be reducing him to his OVA version. We've already seen an OVA-only character in the trailers, so we know they've been getting inspiration from that too. And IIRC James Cameron was a fan of the OVA. In it Makaku is basically just some random hired goon, no brain eating, no body stealing, no background story, etc. One place where the movie does seem to deviate from the OVA-Makaku is that Gally does seem to enter a sewer system to fight him and this doesn't happen in the OVA.
    Oh and another touch from the OVA is the lines underneath her eyes. In the manga is mud or filth from the sewers, but in the OVA is blood from a dog (because she doesn't go into any sewers), and in the trailer it's blood too. Just a detail of course, but it does show that at certain points the movie leans more towards the OVA.
    I agree that the story is not simply light versus dark, but unfortunately the trailers do seem to point towards that. Probably because that's something very popular with the American audience. "I will not stand by in the presence of evil", "She's threatening the natural order of things", that all sounds like typical American superhero stuff, like something from a Spiderman movie or so. I hope it doesn't become too much of a superhero trope movie, because GUNNM is not such a story and Gally is not such a character. Gally did not get into conflict with "the powers that be" because of injustice or evil, it was because of love for a criminal. She was no white knight in shining armor trying to overthrow an evil tyrant

    • @jayaniceday3602
      @jayaniceday3602  5 лет назад +1

      Yeah I agree with much of what you say. I think they will have her as a hunter warrior since they do show Zapan chasing Hugo, which implies that he is targeted by the hunter warriors, hopefully as a spine thief just like in the comic and not because he just happened to be with Alita, who is being targeted by Vector.
      I also hope Motorball is in the background. It is a good way to segue to the 2nd movie if they do so but if they put much of the story in, it will end up diluting both the Hugo arc and the Motorball arc, which will be a disaster IMO. I would not think Cameron would accept that.
      I also am very worried they are going to turn this into a "good versus evil" sort of story just because Vector seems much more a stereotypical villain than the businessman he was in the comic. What I hope is that if they are having Vector as evil, then it is because of Nova. I remember in the OVA the eventual demise of Chiren, which never made sense since Vector and Chiren seemed to be lovers. However, if Nova is in Vector, I can understand how Chiren ends up being in a number of glass jars at the end. If so, I am hoping that once Nova leaves Vector's body, the true Vector finds Chiren's remains and he has a breakdown screaming. This would be more the type of scene you would see in BAA. In any case, here is hoping that Cameron and Rodriguez are fans of BAA enough to not make this into a good vs evil sort of movie.
      Thanks for your comments and lets stay hopeful!

    • @IsilionNELE
      @IsilionNELE 5 лет назад

      We do indeed see Zapan chasing Yugo, Yugo is even injured at the shoulder just like in the manga, which creates the hope that they'll protray that conflict fairly faithfully.
      But the whole spine theft story can still happen with Gally not being a hunter-warrior, she'll just not have to face the dillema of choosing between killing Yugo or becoming an outlaw. The conflict with Vector (who seems to be the face of the authorities in the movie) can come from elsewhere, as Vector says in the trailer "'she's a threat to the natural order", whatever that means.
      One thing about Yugo's story will change for sure, though. They won't show him getting butchered, sadly. It would have been awesome to see that horrific moment on the big screen, but, alas, PG13.

    • @jayaniceday3602
      @jayaniceday3602  5 лет назад

      Well I am hoping that with the conflict existing, the only way she will be able to resolve the conflict by fighting without making herself a criminal is by being a hunter warrior. The way she was able to kill (well kinda kill) Zapan and save Hugo (well kinda save) was to pretend that she killed Hugo and was bringing his head in to collect the bounty and when Zapan noticed the connections to her life support keeping him alive, it looked like he was trying to steal her bounty and became a wanted person, and that is when Alita went in for the kill. It would be hard to justify her actions against the hunter warriors to the governance of Tephares unless she was a hunter warrior herself. At least I am hoping that will be the case.

    With all the new info out (URM Sword and Damascus Sword props from ComicCon, the paralyzer and cutting props at ComicCon, the motorball starting line picture from the new Empire magazine article which may have Kinuba?, 12 elevators, street motorball mentioned in the set tour, normal motorball in the trailer, the Nova backstory from the new prequel novelization [won't post here--might be too spoilery], Alita the cat being replaced by a daughter, the fact that the new character McTeague is implied to be Murdock in the novelization, etc.) I now have no clue how this movie is going to play out. It seems feasible to arrange these into a cohesive story but difficult. Hope it ends up being good. *fingers crossed*
    The trailers have been looking more crisp as time goes on so I think visually at least it should be good. I also really like the action we've been seeing. I especially liked that extended clip of her practicing in front of a mirror. Reminds me of legit martial arts films. ruclips.net/video/AlkEwRvFd8A/видео.html

      Kinuba would be interesting because this would imply there is the cyber gladiatorial battles that we saw in the comic. So far I have not seen any of this. If this is the case, then that chainsaw body should be Kinuba's and if so, does Grewcica get it by stealing it from Kinuba as in the comic? If so, I am a lot more hopeful that they may actually have the Grewcica story in there. That would make me very happy.
      Thanks for all this information!

      Dunno if either are the same guy as the one listed as playing Kinuba on IMDB: www.imdb.com/name/nm1422236/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t30. Could it be Kinuba? What do you think?
      The Alita Battle Angel channel noted that the red arm that Grewcica has is the same one we see in this scene with a smaller cyborg (Kinuba?). ruclips.net/video/778O5V5Mef0/видео.html That could be the same as the smaller guy on the starting line. I could be reaching.
      They might just have the stealing of the grind cutters part, but maybe not the backstory. I also really do hope the backstory is in it as well though.

    The guy Alita beats in the Motorball scene is Ajakuty.
    Grewshika isn’t in the Motorball scenes probably because at this point he'll be already dead.

    • @jayaniceday3602
      @jayaniceday3602  5 лет назад

      This is very interesting if that is Ajakutty. Ajakutty was one of the motorball contestants that actually gave Alita a good challenge. During their off game battle for who gets the "99" number, Ajakutty actually was able to tear off one of Alita's legs during battle. Of course Alita eventually came back with her palm on his face, ready to do a Herza Haeon, which would blow his brains out. That was a great battle and I sure hope they don't dumb down Ajakutty to just a "peon" motorball character.
      Thanks for the clarification.

    Just from the amount of material they said they were adapting and how they seem to be handling Vector, I was already expecting the framing of the motorball element to largely if not fully replace the black market spine thief element in Hugo's story arc. I'm just not quite seeing how they are going to either balance or blend the bounty hunter element with the motorball element in a single film. If they have come up with a coherent story that still feels true to who Alita herself is and to the world building in general, I will be satisfied with/in spite of the other changes.

    • @jayaniceday3602
      @jayaniceday3602  5 лет назад +1

      This is a good point Richard. As BAA is much more a character driven and situation driven story rather than a plot driven story, if they can remain true to the story's feeling, I think I am ok with it as well. The main point I want to see is the representation of conflict and the distinct POV of characters. There is never a right or wrong in the story and good people may have skeleton's in the closet and the so called bad people are not the "arghhh I am evil" sort of personality you see in a lot of movies and comics. Vector for example is basically a businessman trying to survive and due to the various situations creates some of the things that oppress other characters in the story. However, he is not the typical evil villain. Even Desty Nova is not what you call your evil villain, and often aids Alita as much as fights against her (at least the different versions of Nova). The only stereotypical villain I can think of during the entire story is Mbadi, who did what he did to gain power, knowing that he caused grief to others.
      The biggest worry for me is they are setting up Vector to be the typical evil villain. I hope this is not the case and that they give him the depth of personality that he had in the comic. If they keep this sort of message (world is in the greys and is not black and white) and keep the character depth than as you say, even with plot changes, I would be ok with it. If they don't, I will feel that the movie will not cover the depth that they have in the comics.
      Thanks for your message and hoping for the best in the movie.

      The spine theft I think is in the film. The props at ComicCon included Hugo's "paralyzer bolt" which looks like the object that was used in the manga to shock cyborgs. It also shows a rotary blade labeled "Hugo's cutting tool" (the manga and anime show an axe) which I assume would help with spine thefts. ruclips.net/video/vfg0yYce5jM/видео.html
      Also, this video makes a point about seeing a body on the ground in Vector's glasses like the manga. ruclips.net/video/GlmvJ06CvkU/видео.html
      Finally, the prequel book which just came out explicitly states that Hugo and Koyomi (?) are spine thieves. I haven't read it myself, but one of the people on the Gunnm Discord has been telling us about the book. It is possible that this is only going to be part of the prequel novelization (presumably novelization authors are given info about the film) but the above points makes it more likely that it is in.
      If anything got cut, I also think it was the importance of Makaku/Grewishka. I haven't seen anything to suggest that his arc will be as significant. I saw one of the clips in the sneak peak at ComicCon and in the blue shirt scene where they are fighting, Grewishka says something (sorry I don't remember the exact line) that did imply he had Makaku's backstory, but the way it was said made it seem like we aren't going to actually get a flashback like in the manga. (I could be wrong though.) Though understandable, I am a bit bummed out about that because I really liked learning more about Makaku's backstory (tragic).
      At this point with all of the info coming out from the prequel books and all of the other interviews/snippets, I've given up on guessing how it'll come together. I will also agree that I just hope it's got the right tone and it is a good movie on it's own.

    • @IsilionNELE
      @IsilionNELE 5 лет назад

      The spine theft is still in the movie.
      In one of the trailers we see Zapan attacking one of the thieves after he pretended to be a costumer of them, and in the scene where Yugo is running away we see his shoulder is bleeding which is probably because Zapan pushed his finger in it, like in the manga

      @@jayaniceday3602 I think the change to Vector is that now he actually has connections with Zalem, not just as a delivery man. So his involvment may be as a hand of Zalem rather than just protecting his interest. This is also indicated as Alita being a target of the literally higher powers in what Ido said about some powerful enemies coming for her. Whay would Ido be so informed about this? May also be Nova is still a Zalemite.

    • @jayaniceday3602
      @jayaniceday3602  5 лет назад

      Well based on the TUNED arc which is two arcs after Motorball, eventually there is a connection between Zalem and Alita. However, as was mentioned, this is something that Zalem mentions they learn about during the Motorball arc due to the spy drone that was used to observe her after they learned about her. The question would be why they would go after her now. It may be due to their fear of her resurrection due to her involvement with Operation Malwuff and her infamy from that historical incident. However, if this was the case, I would think there would be much better ways for Zalem to act upon it, especially with her amnesia. In fact during the TUNED arc we found out Zalem was more interested in using her skills rather than to destroy her.
      As for Nova being a Zalemite, that would destroy the latter half of the original BAA comic series as one of her main assignments as a Zalem TUNED agent was the search and elimination of Nova. This of course led to the underground bunker arc. It would also make a major problem with the beginning of Last Order since he basically takes Alita up to Zalem so that together they can take on the citizens of Zalem. This of course leads to their meeting with Mbadi.
      To some extent, Vector is an agent of Zalem not in terms of someone of equal partnership but someone who has some communications with the people of Zalem. This gives him the power and riches to be one of the most powerful citizens of scrapyard city. However he still is considered a subordinate of Zalem and he himself mentions that he has never been sent to Zalem.
      If they make Vector and Nova, accepted citizens of Zalem, I think this may in fact ruin my enjoyment of this movie. That would be like making the Joker an accepted citizen of Gotham City and a friend of Commissioner Gordon. There is no reason it can't be done but it would drastically change the Batman story.

      Makes sense. I actually don't remember much about Nikita. Last I saw anything about it was like 15 years ago lol, or at least it feels that way!

    • @jayaniceday3602
      @jayaniceday3602  5 лет назад +2

      The thing that stuck out about Nikita was that she was somewhat a product of the institution. Being dragged in as a criminal and trained to become an assassin, she eventually starts getting further and further sucked into her dark life that the institution sets on her. She eventually falls in love with someone who has a normal life and creates a conflict between the life she loves (with her lover) and the life she lives (as an assassin). She has the power to kill but not the power to lead her life in the way she desires. Even her friends in the institution is made up to make her an effective killing machine. She realizes this when the institution pays for her honeymoon, making her feel warm about her boss...only to find out the place was sent to was for a hit job and the honeymoon was an alibi.
      BAA has some of that quality but goes much more off the deep end in terms of what is life. When you add things like cybernetics, brain hacking, clones of yourself and such, the rabbit hole becomes very deep. BAA is a story of one girl trying to fight for her identity and life amidst all these happenings.

    • @DragoNate
      @DragoNate 5 лет назад +2

      Ah, that jogs my memory a bit more. As a kid, I kinda only think of the action, but now the story actually sounds much better.
      With the cybernetics and such, I definitely get that. It's kinda like the Matrix, but probably even deeper than that. There's tons of discussion about robots and robot rights out there, not to mention cyborgs. That kind of stuff starts blurring the lines between real life and artificial life.
      This movie sounds even more interesting to me now.

    • @jayaniceday3602
      @jayaniceday3602  5 лет назад +3

      The thing that makes BAA stand out IMO is that they delve into questions without blatently blurting it out like in many movies such as the Matrix (remember that Architect dude and his "ergos?"). BAA brings much of this from straight out situation.
      For example there is a side story by the author which doesn't go into the main BAA story so it is not considered a spoiler as Alita is not even in the side story. It is about the cyber-surgeon Dyson Ido and why he becomes a cyber-surgeon. He is a brilliant surgeon but does not believe in cybernetics, thinking it is artificial and not the "real person". As such he just can't get into cyber surgery and fails at the task. One day in winter, he saves a young girl from a violent robot who is chasing her, only to find out she has no memory but is a naive young girl though she is basically an older teenager. As his other profession is that of a bounty hunter (hunter warrior in the story), he saves her from the murderous robot who runs away. He decides to take her in and between them a friendship grows. She starts becoming more and more a true adult and as such their friendship grows. In the meantime, he meets a brilliant regular surgeon who has done some incredible work and Dyson and this new doctor start doing more research into how to cure illness the non-cybernetic way. But all this time, the murderous robot is still stalking the girl (who he names Carole). Eventually, a couple of years after the original incident, Carole is kidnapped by the murderous robot. Of course Dyson goes in search of her and the trail leads him to his doctor friend. There he finds Carole and just when he sees her, he sees the robot attacking her so he attacks the robot and cripples it. Carole thanks him and for the first time kisses him in a sensual manner. Dyson realizes this isn't Carole and asks who she is. It is when the doctor friend appears and says this is one of his best research. The lady was a rich lady who had fallen into a major illness and so asked the doctor to cure her. He did not know a cure so decided to clone her body to make a vessel to transfer her brain once of age. In the meantime, the lady's original brain was put into the robot's body for life support. After the body came to age, they were going to transplant the lady's brain into the girl's body and get rid of the clone's brain. But the body now sentient, runs away. The robot chases after her but then is saved by Dyson (during the start of the story). So they decided to befrend Dyson so that they can get the girl (Carole) back to do the surgery. Now that it was done, the rich lady's brain was in the girl's body. A miracle of medicine. Of course now they no longer needed Dyson, the lady tries to kill him but the murderous robot in a last effort attempt blocks the attack saving Dyson and in turn killing the lady and the doctor (the house goes on fire). Dyson realizes that the murderous robot was now Carole and he had crippled it. Carole who cannot live this way, saves Dyson and walks back into the burning house and we are left to wonder if she lived or died. The robot body was this giant hideous thing so if she lived, she lived as an abomination. The last thing you see is Dyson crying for Carole to come back.
      Several months later you see Dyson finally achieving the skills to be a cyber surgeon with his new found belief in wanting to help cybernetic beings. It is this Dyson who find Alita in the junkyard.
      It is this sort of dramatic irony and sadness that I really love about Battle Angel Alita. It goes and discusses many situations but not in a "Look at this!" sort of manner but in everyday life problems sort of situations. That is why I often say in BAA there is no stereotypical hero and villain but just people who are a mixture selfish and selflessness.

      @jayaniceday3602  5 лет назад

      Yeah, i mentioned that in a previous video when covering the first trailer. The only thing we don't know is how Motorball fits in. I do think she will get rid of the first body once she gets the Berserker one but I don't know if she will get the motorball one after she parts with the Berserker one as in the comic since I am not sure if the motorball story will be mixed in with the Hugo story. If it is not and it goes as the order of the comic, I would expect the motorball sequence will only come in the end of the movie as a closing point but if it is mixed in together so that motorball can become a more substantial part of the movie along with the Hugo arc, then she may switch back and forth between her berserker body when she is out of Motorball and her motorball body when she is competing.
      It will be interesting to see what happens.
