I've never seen a flathead rebuild before. Good on ya man! Can't wait for the next step! You do outstanding work! Right from scratch, research, fabrication and sourcing very cool stuff! Impressive! You are wise beyond your years.
Most your age are wasting their life away and playing games. Your building cars, developing skills and doing it all yourself, respect young sir. Keep it up!
I'm so glad your putting a V8 in it flathead, small block, big block who cares you still can't beat the sound of an 8 cruising down the road 😁 cheers mark
That is the only engine that should go in your car-love the flatheads. Biggest problem was overheating. To keep the Flathead engine cool the internal block must be clean and free of cracks and remember that boring the block brings with it increased demands on the cooling system. Can't wait to hear it run.
Looks like you got yourself a pretty nice shop and a flatty that's in incredibly beautiful condition. For some reason these engines are very expensive to build but at the same time they're a hell of alot of fun to work on.Seems you found the perfect power plant for your project, best of luck!
My dad had a great idea for my junior year in high school. We had a 1933 Ford Model b pickup, with a flattie. We pulled it out and had no big hoist, so my dad, my cousins(2), and I man handled it into a wheelbarrow and into my dads workshop. Of course we pulled all sheet metal off the front first. I learned to cut out ring grooves(nonelectric style), placement of rings cutting valve seats, etc, etc.. what an experience that was, and it started right up, NO SMOKE, ran like a charm. I hated ft mount distributors! Not the front mts in 1949+ years, but between the water pumps. Example on UTube- Barbara Jackson video illustrates the type.
Great engine to start with and use. There sweet engines, and it will look super cool. I have rebuilt many flathead Ford V-8's. There is a special tool Ford made for removing the valve assembly. I would hunt it up and send you a photo, so you could make one, but you already got the valves out. There is a aftermarket cast-iron part that you put in the center exhaust port, held in with a head stud, that helps the engine breath better on the inboard cylinders... Look in the center exhaust port, and you will see what I mean. The ports have nothing to divide them, and exhaust can blow toward the other exhaust valve, instead of out to the manifold. Your doing a awesome job so far!
I was honestly hoping to see a modern four cylinder. But that my opinion and this is your project. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing you rebuild that engine
It'd be expensive as hell! A spiffed up flathead is just cool as hell to look at, and that vintage V8 exhaust note is killer! I hope he sticks with that flathead.
I dont have a doubt you can make that kitty purr again. Might have to look around for the missing parts though, and get a shaft to connect its horses to the rear wheels.
I've got a rebuilt Holley 92 2 barrel that would be perfect for that- chrome air cleaner too! Definitely needs some aluminum heads, bump up the compression, new cam, lake pipes, etc
Nice simple engine, with simple electronics. A good exhaust sound for fun, slow weekend drives. See the Carsthatlast series on RUclips for older vehicles that are reliable as a daily driver- ideally have 2 so if 1 breaks you can take your time fixing it. The April issue every year for Consumer Reports magazine at a library goes back 8 years for reliability. Project Farm RUclips videos test maintenance brands- oils, fuel and oil additives, etc.
I have a 59Ab that has been retro fitted with 8ba parts...4 inch merc crank to boot. Soon ha e to tear it down so looking for info vids like this one....thx.
nice motor and you cant beat the price , looks like someonedid a look see rebuild on it before setting it a side , the gaskets look hardly used and like you said no carbon buildup keep the valvestuff on the corrosponding holes there worn intoo the camlobe might be able to find some go fast stuff on swap meets , maibe even cast youre own replica's out of aluminium thats how edelbrock started (intakes and cilinderheads)
You should do some of those old style mods to the engine where you remove a little bit of material and polish between the valves and the piston and maybe some porting like they did for more power before turbos n stuff
I'm doing the exact motor but my heads were already off and the nuts were missing. I want to keep it rusty on the outside, so if you have the head nuts and rusty intake bolts, I could use those.
Sometimes its not what you know, but who you know. Hey man, don't you have a air compressor? do you need some air tools. I can send you one if you want.
I am also working on a Ford Flathead but an 8BA. I would suggest giving "Flathead Facts" by John W Lawson a read before delving too far into the engine. He subjected a lot of flathead lore to some real world testing, separating fact from "wishful thinking". It is a very interesting read.
Are you going to have to hone the valve port in the block? If so, will you have to find new valve sleeves to fit a new polished port? I don't know how much material honing would remove.
Clean old sidevalve, most are full of rust. It has been recoed in the past. Get the block, crank and rods cracktested by a machine shop. They do it better. And hot tank it as well. Those valves are as old as the engine,,,, may well be past their use by date.
You were given a golden treasure for the condition of that flathead. 👍

Watch hagerty's video rebuilding one. :)
wherever you gained your knowledge I commend you. this is a most entertaining build. I am thouroughly enjoying every aspect of it.
Most your age are wasting their life away and playing games. Your building cars, developing skills and doing it all yourself, respect young sir. Keep it up!
I tell you what, young gun. You do some impressive work. Keep doing what you do!
lol I was just going to post that this kid has it together. Perfect engine for this build. imho
I can’t wait to sees this thing done!!!!
I found your channel couple days a go and i impressd with your skills...Best Regards from Brazil!!
awesome! great to have you watching!
I'm so glad your putting a V8 in it flathead, small block, big block who cares you still can't beat the sound of an 8 cruising down the road 😁 cheers mark
You are a hell of a craftsman. You sir have another subscriber

Flat head nice....
Cyl 2 is the hot one !

This build just just went into the stratosphere of Cool.

Awesome can't wait to hear it running! By far the best video series you have ever done! Thanks bro Anthony Kent

OMG, i am loving that you are staying true to the look, and using a old engine ;) it looks like its in pretty good condition too ;)
Awesome video 👍♥️😁👍👍 great job 👌
Such knowledge and abilities. Very impressed. Looking forward to seeing your results.
😍😍😍 I'm geekin so hard over this build!!! I LOVE that you're gonna run a Flatty!!! PLEASE tell us it's gonna get some period correct speed parts!!!!
I was honestly hoping to see a modern four cylinder. But that my opinion and this is your project. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing you rebuild that engine
Another great video can't wait to see what's next
That flathead won't win any races...
But it'll be off the charts cool!
It'd be expensive as hell!
A spiffed up flathead is just cool as hell to look at, and that vintage V8 exhaust note is killer!
I hope he sticks with that flathead.
someone gave me a '47 59a .060 in a basket but I had give him $500. Still a good buy. Looking forward to your build.
I dont have a doubt you can make that kitty purr again. Might have to look around for the missing parts though, and get a shaft to connect its horses to the rear wheels.
Very nice job! I always use an impact driver to further loosen the bolts its saves some handwork haha :D
Oh yeah can't wait for the rebuild and performance parts. I really want to know what you plan for the exhaust. Don't hide it. Flaunt it.
I've got a rebuilt Holley 92 2 barrel that would be perfect for that- chrome air cleaner too! Definitely needs some aluminum heads, bump up the compression, new cam, lake pipes, etc
Knew it was gunna be a flathead. Awesome vid. Love your channel. :)

Great job and thank you for sharing.
Cleanest 70 year old engine ever
yeah, it seems like someone rebuilt it then hardly used it
I bet it wouldve ran with the missing parts
This video is usefull for a mechanic but i like it KEEP going
Very nice choice bro. Car gonna be nasty
Well it ain’t no SBC. 😉
That’s a good thing in this case. Good to see you are doing the research to go along with the build.
I have a 59Ab that has been retro fitted with 8ba parts...4 inch merc crank to boot. Soon ha e to tear it down so looking for info vids like this one....thx.

Looks like you got a good engine there, would not surprise me if it cleans up good with very little cracking.
Love a flathead
I wasn't expecting that engine to be over 50 years old, wow
Almost looks like it was rebuilt at some point and never used... Mint
Or used very lightly.
what about all the black sludge on the oil pump screen and the black oil........dont look like light use to nme......
I'm doing the exact motor but my heads were already off and the nuts were missing. I want to keep it rusty on the outside, so if you have the head nuts and rusty intake bolts, I could use those.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Did you mark the caps and ream the ridge?
I have a 59 ba (3rd to last gen flathead) sitting in my garage right now
My depression drops to 0℅ when I see your video in my sub box, kidding I don't have depression.
My depression comes on when the videos are far apart.
I’m always depressed
I hope you marked your pistons and cylinders so they all go back in the right places.
yup :)
Great
Mad max v8 with super charger?
Perhaps a bit brobdingnagian.
5:21 ichiban motoed! :)
What lifters do you have? The solid stock or the Johnson adjustable ones.
Can you try to build your own engine?
Sometimes its not what you know, but who you know. Hey man, don't you have a air compressor? do you need some air tools. I can send you one if you want.
Better have some deep pockets. Flathead parts are not cheap. I have three of them.
I am also working on a Ford Flathead but an 8BA. I would suggest giving "Flathead Facts" by John W Lawson a read before delving too far into the engine. He subjected a lot of flathead lore to some real world testing, separating fact from "wishful thinking". It is a very interesting read.
could you do a video on the off road lawn mower?
Jo Moma there are plenty on his channel
He has an entire build series on the mower and other builds including a scale Sherman Tank.
install harden value sets unleaded gas now.
If you need a mercury crank. Or other party let me know. I will give you some parts.
So, 3 Stromberg's? lol
Are you going to have to hone the valve port in the block? If so, will you have to find new valve sleeves to fit a new polished port? I don't know how much material honing would remove.
Have you thought about turbos ?
No........no...........JUST NO!..
How can I contact you ? Have parts.
GENERATOR, not ALTERNATOR....hehehehe :)
A 59ab should not be on the engine stand supported by the bell housing, you better off getting the exhaust port adapter.
I can't stress this enough please bolt the engine on the exhaust ports not the bell housing.
V8!? 😲
Bg
At least use a battery powered impact wrench to speed disassembly!
You can bore a flathead 150 thousands over and I recommend a better cam and better heads
Dual plug would be cool
I bet that flathead would of ran
